A voice came to me as I was pretending to be a great warrior punching trees shaking them violently with each strike. It said "to be so strong only at the age of 7 you have great potential. Harness your skills and great power will be yours one day."
I then from that day forth trained day and night in the way of the blade. I fought to grow my skills as a warrior in every form of combat. I learned every style of combat I could. In this village of ours with the news of war outbreaking between humanity and an unknown force unleashed upon the world.
Being from the village of Laogai, we are all blessed with a strong connection with the mana found throughout this universe. We train for what was the potential threat of other races invading our home. We gave endless hours to our training in the ways of the sword, the arts of magic, and the teachings of the fist.
I gave my all to become the strongest I could. As I passed each and every test of strength and surpassed all those before me. I took my time to strengthen my mind as well. Spending my time reading from our libraries in the great tree.
I reached a point where I was ready to go out into the world and experience the greatest teachings of all time. The school of life. I embarked on this journey with my brother Netamashī. As I decided to go approach the grand elder our king Raigo.
I was granted a small war party to go on my journey however I was certain me and my brother would be more than enough. We set off for the long journey ahead. Sent on behalf of the village as our contribution to the war that had been raging on over the years. Causing us to even work with the humans who we trained to kill. That we trained to defend our forest from.
In the end despite acknowledging my ability the elder dispatched 4 others with us to go aid them in their struggles against this unknown enemy. That many have encountered and few have survived. No one truly knows what they are. They are called shadows. The name best fitting for creatures that destroy cities overnight.
We reached one of the many kingdoms of the humans known as Cantorus. We arrived to see hordes of soldiers ready at the gates greeted by them and entering inside we were led directly to their king Yandel. He then thanks us for coming and asks if we can help them to defend their home. Saying it will soon fall if they cannot get reinforcements in time.
As I turned to respond a magic transmission came through. Playing a message sent from his troops further up ahead. All we can hear is screams and the warning "they are many -" with sounds of blood gushing. "Beware of the-" we hear the sounds of a limb being ripped off as we hear the final cry for help followed by the roar of the shadows.
In shock hearing this we fasten ourselves for a fight. Going full speed forward we reach the walls of the kingdom. Seeing the crowds of monsters coming from the west at full speed towards the castle. With them coming in droves we see small, medium, and massive shadows. Equal in power to some of the most feared monstrosities known to this world.
The human armies shot their volley of ranged spells and attacks from above. While we charged in on the ground behind the foot soldiers, in our practiced formations. Slicing down each monster and as we covered each other's backs we were fighting on and on slaying the seeming endless amount of shadows. Until the true beast came in those with special abilities unlike the others.
Losing 2 of my units to an explosion of energy directed at them, we charged in using magic to shock them. Holding them in place as we pushed through. They outnumbered us all with sheer numbers and overwhelming power yet we charged in anyways.
Most of the humans were being devoured if not already. Slowly making me and my men the last to face the enemy forces. One of my men impaled by a crystal hand through the chest. Knew his time had come. He told me "it was an honor to fight alongside you". Before he shattered its body with a thunder wave rippling through the crowd using all the magic he had. Falling with its remains onto the ground.
With just 3 of us remaining we decided to stand our ground. There was nowhere left to run to as we were pushed back to the walls of the kingdom. A massive energy beam from a shadow came at high speeds blowing a massive hole through the walls of the kingdom sending us flying.
Injuring my brother badly with half his body scorched I accepted the worst. Turning to see my comrade being stabbed through the head and dragged to a mouth with chains enveloping him. I rose to my feet ready to go head to head with the horde of shadows. My final stand for all those who have fallen.
I cut them down taking hit after hit until I killed a massive one. Glowing blue as it grows exploding before me. Causing a chain reaction with those nearby. Causing a ring of explosions that rendered me useless as It burned me alive. Shattering my bones as I was sent flying through the other side of the walls.
Landing into the ground forming a crater outside the walls of the falling kingdom. I heard a whisper from the voice I had not heard since the very start of this path. It said to me as it reached out a hand to me "take my power. I'm not long for this world but you child, you have much more life ahead of you to live."
I grabbed hold with the last of my strength collapsing onto the ground. I saw the voice I had only heard in my head kneel down to close my eyes. As everything went dark, I was killed as a proud elf that day. Yet I started anew. my body reforged, my mind remade I was reborn wielding the powers of the gods.
I transcended mortality to godhood. Granting me new found power that saved my life, Reviving me into a new form. One I knew I'd use to kill all shadows.
I awakened, opening my eyes to blue light looking at my form in shock. Astounded by my new found power I wondered just what I could do as I turned to return to the fight. However as I prepared to unleash my all on the shadows, I realized I'd been reborn long after their assault. Seeing only a waste land of remains of human skulls and my elven brother's corpse.
I made my way to my village with haste to find it completely mangled with dead bodies and blood as I saw bodies of both shadows and druids all about. With the elder being the only one whose body remained intact. He looks to have passed from exhaustion of all his magic to lay an end to the emboldened shadows who invaded our lands.
I then knew that I still had a mission from my past to fulfill. I will hunt the shadows. I will be the light. Dedicating my new life no matter how long, no matter how short to cleansing the world of the vile plague that corrupts it. No matter what evil befalls this world I will always be here to face it until my last breath. Making sure all mortals can live the peace so many have fallen for.
