Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Life Skills and the Inheritance of Strength

Ever since Fang Yi caught a glimpse of the overwhelming strength shown by Roger and Garp, he had been training even harder than before—not for anything else, but simply to survive in this world.

However, ever since he drew a skill using twenty lottery tickets last time, he had done two more ten-pulls, but unfortunately, hadn't gotten any more skills. Instead, he ended up with a bunch of miscellaneous items.

Among those, Skill EXP Scrolls appeared nearly every time he did a ten-pull. Coupled with his recent training, his Precision skill had finally reached over 50% mastery—he was now halfway to leveling it up.

"Captain! An island spotted ahead!"

After over a week of sailing, the Roger Pirates finally spotted a small island. However, upon landing, they discovered that it was an uninhabited island.

"Little Yi! Move those supplies over here!"

Down at the beach, the head chef Yaoichi was shouting orders, directing Fang Yi and a few other crew members to carry food and cooking tools over—because Captain Roger planned to hold a feast here later.

As an apprentice crew member, Fang Yi naturally had to help out.

Roger and the others, on the other hand, had already gone off to explore the island.

"Little Yi! Go hunt some animals for us—we might not have enough food for tonight's feast!" Yaoichi looked up at the sky and grinned, calling out to Fang Yi, "Didn't you train under Yammon? She's the best hunter in the wild!"

Fang Yi's face darkened—he had only been learning archery, not survival skills in the wild!

Still, this was a good chance to practice, so he agreed without hesitation.

After gathering his gear, Fang Yi headed alone toward the island's center. But before he had gone far, he heard angry roars coming from deeper inside.

"That must be…" Listening to the distant roars, Fang Yi figured Roger and the others must be hunting some sort of beast. But he didn't intend to get involved. Instead, he wanted to take this chance to catch some smaller animals nearby—he wasn't about to return empty-handed and embarrass himself.

Moving deeper toward the center, Fang Yi climbed up a tall tree, readied his bow, and waited for prey to show itself.

Sure enough, it wasn't long before he heard rustling all around him.

The roars in the distance had startled the smaller animals into fleeing, so all Fang Yi needed to do was wait patiently for them to show up.

"Here it comes!"

Seeing a bush nearby start to shake, Fang Yi knew something was about to pop out. He quickly aimed his bow at it, ready to fire the moment the target emerged.

Snort snort—

Whoosh!

Suddenly, a wild boar—about half the height of a grown man—charged out from the underbrush. Fang Yi instantly released his arrow, sending it flying straight toward the panicked boar.

Thud!

The wild boar, startled as it burst out of the bushes, had no time to dodge or stop. The arrow struck it right in the eye.

"Yikes! I was aiming for its forehead, but hitting the eye isn't bad either."

However, the wounded boar didn't die on the spot. Instead, it let out an enraged howl and started running wild, crashing into trees everywhere because its vision was impaired.

"Tch! What a stubborn thing! Hmph!" Fang Yi muttered, watching the boar run amok. Naturally, he wasn't about to let his catch escape. He nocked another arrow and calmly aimed again.

Whoosh!

Thud!

The second arrow pierced through the boar's tough hide, slowing it down noticeably. Before it could get far, Fang Yi fired a third arrow, finishing it off for good.

"Let's see you run now!"

Jumping down from the tree, Fang Yi approached and swiftly finished off the boar, making sure it wouldn't cause him any more trouble. He had learned his lesson—one mistake was enough.

After tying the boar up with rope, he left it under a large tree and climbed back up to wait for more prey.

After all, one boar wasn't nearly enough to feed an entire pirate crew!

And besides, this was a rare chance to hone his practical hunting skills—he couldn't let it go to waste.

Even though his Precision skill hadn't activated at all just now, the fact that he landed all three shots showed the results of his daily training.

Before long, Fang Yi used the same method to catch a pheasant-like bird and another wild boar—this one even bigger than the first.

The last boar was particularly unlucky. When Fang Yi shot it, his Precision skill triggered, and the arrow pierced straight through its skull, killing it instantly.

Dragging his catches back toward the beach, Fang Yi felt that hauling the prey back was far more exhausting than actually hunting it.

"Well now! You were gone so long and only came back with this little haul?"

Seeing Fang Yi struggling to drag the heavy prey back, Yaoichi laughed heartily and teased him.

"'Little'? Do you even know how long it took me to haul these back? Twice as long as it took to catch them! Look at that big boar—it's taller than me!" Fang Yi replied helplessly, pointing at the largest boar.

"Haha! Not bad at all! You got a clean kill with just one arrow—looks like you've grown quite a bit stronger!" Yaoichi grinned after glancing at the big boar.

While these beasts weren't much to the veteran crew, Fang Yi's clean one-shot kill was quite impressive for his level, especially against such a large boar.

But then Yaoichi noticed several wounds on the smaller boar and asked in surprise, "Why'd you use at least four arrows on this smaller one?"

"Because it's smaller—so it's more agile!" Fang Yi replied matter-of-factly.

Naturally, he wasn't going to tell the whole truth—he had to save some face!

"Haha! Alright, you rascal—this big boar looks great. We'll roast it later. Now go chop down a couple of trees for me!" Yaoichi didn't press further. After inspecting the ingredients, he simply told Fang Yi to fetch some firewood.

Fang Yi had a good impression of Yaoichi, whose flame-shaped hair stuck up like a blaze. Though the chef always wore a cloak and rarely showed his hands, he was warm-hearted deep down.

Back on the ship, Yaoichi was the one who always prepared special meals for Fang Yi. As he said himself, Fang Yi was still just a kid and needed proper nutrition.

Of course, this had nothing to do with Fang Yi secretly sneaking him rum on occasion!

Yep—unrelated!

When Fang Yi returned, dragging two massive tree trunks, he found that Captain Roger and the others had already come back to camp. Next to their camp, the huge corpse of a beast—over ten meters long—lay on the ground. It looked like a giant lizard.

Later, Fang Yi learned that the creature had been the island's apex predator, living in a lake at its center. If it hadn't attacked Roger and his crew, it likely would've kept living peacefully.

"Oh! Little Yi's back too? Hurry up—we've been waiting for you! Time for the feast!" Roger called out with a big laugh as soon as he spotted Fang Yi.

On Roger's ship, even an apprentice like Fang Yi wouldn't be left out—Roger always waited for the whole crew to gather before starting any celebration.

Eating roasted meat and drinking rum, everyone was in high spirits.

As pirates, they all craved freedom and thrilling adventures like this.

"Yo-ho-ho-ho! Yo-ho-ho-ho~!"

"Yo-ho-ho-ho! Yo-ho-ho-ho~!"

"Bring a bottle of Binks' Sake~"

"Let the wind guide us, riding the waves~"

As they sang Binks' Sake, the feast reached its peak. Having spent so much time aboard the ship, Fang Yi had naturally learned this song too. He sang and danced with the crew, completely enjoying himself.

The next morning, Fang Yi—who hadn't drunk much—was naturally the first to wake up.

As usual, he checked in with Roger, Rayleigh, and Jabba to get his three lottery tickets before slowly starting to pack up.

Even the massive lizard from the night before had been eaten. The crew had even tried to get Fang Yi drunk, though Rayleigh had stepped in to stop them; otherwise, Fang Yi might not have woken up at all today.

By the time Fang Yi finished hauling everything back onto the ship, the sun was already high in the sky, and the other crew members were gradually waking up.

Once everyone was ready, Roger announced that it was time to set sail again.

It seemed like life would soon return to the usual, mundane routine of sailing.

Because everyone was still hungover from the night before, the crew looked sluggish and listless.

Fang Yi, on the other hand, found a quiet corner to sit in and opened his backpack. Seeing that he had gathered another ten lottery tickets, he hesitated for a moment, but then decided to go for another ten-pull.

"Congratulations! You've obtained: 1 bottle of rum!"

"Congratulations! You've obtained: Small Skill EXP Scroll!"

"Congratulations! You've obtained: Mysterious Fishing Bait!"

"Congratulations! You've obtained: Medium Skill EXP Scroll Fragment!"

"Congratulations! You've obtained: Skill (Music)!"

"Congratulations! You've obtained: A Small Loaf of Bread!"

"Congratulations! You've obtained: Minor Inheritance of Strength!"

"Congratulations! You've obtained: 1 bottle of rum!"

"Congratulations! You've obtained: Armament Haki Fragment!"

"Congratulations! You've obtained: Shipwright Skill!"

"Congratulations! You've obtained: Sunshot Bow Fragment!"

After reading all the system notifications, Fang Yi was left stunned. He had drawn two new skills at once—and even gotten fragments for both Armament Haki and the Sunshot Bow?

There was also this thing called the Minor Inheritance of Strength—he wasn't quite sure what it did yet.

Taking a deep breath to calm down, Fang Yi opened his character panel:

Name: Fang Yi

Gender: Male

Combat Skills:

Precision (Lv 1) 52/100: 10% chance to land a guaranteed hit on enemies!

Evasion (Lv 1) 12/100: 10% chance to dodge incoming attacks!

Life Skills:

Music (Beginner): You have basic musical appreciation and can play simple instruments, but only at an entry level.

Shipwright (Beginner): Your hands are more dexterous, but you can only handle minor ship repairs for now.

"So… these are life skills—non-combat abilities. No wonder the system classified them differently." Fang Yi realized why he had been able to draw two skills at once this time.

Still, it was better than drawing nothing at all.

After reviewing his skills, Fang Yi opened his backpack. Unlike when he first acquired the system, his bag was now stuffed with all kinds of random items.

Minor Inheritance of Strength: Increases your physical strength slightly.

Reading the description, Fang Yi was even more surprised.

"This thing… boosts my strength?"

Taking out the Minor Inheritance of Strength, which looked like a small chocolate bean, Fang Yi stared at it suspiciously for a moment.

After hesitating briefly, he popped it into his mouth.
