Chennai, India – Year 2047.
The rain didn't fall anymore. It shimmered — nanodust mixed in with moisture, refracting neon lights in delicate blue webs that danced through the night air. Above the slums of Old Royapuram, corporate airships groaned like mechanical whales in the sky, their glowing logos cutting through the monsoon haze.
Down below, a boy sat on the edge of a half-collapsed building, staring at the edge of existence.
Vaelin Rajan, age seventeen, hated the color blue.
It followed him everywhere — in the bruises under his eye, in the flickering ad panels flashing "Future is Freedom™", and now, in the blinking wristband assigned by the Government Health Grid. He called it the leash.
Every step he took was recorded. Every bite he ate was measured. Every thought he had was irrelevant.
Until now.
Tonight, he planned to disappear.
He stood up on the edge of the rooftop, barely twenty feet above the rusted road, his shoes crunching broken plastic. Below, a flooded alley reflected the sky like a shattered mirror. He leaned forward.
Then—time stopped.
Literally.
Not metaphorically. Not in his mind.
The wind halted. The droplets froze midair. Even the airships overhead stuttered, mid-broadcast.
> [INITIALIZING PROTOCOL: BLUECORE SENTIENCE MERGE]
A glow ignited in his chest. Cold, electric. Alien.
Vaelin gasped, clutching his heart as blue hexagonal veins spread like fire through his body, illuminating every nerve. His eyes rolled back, then snapped open—bright blue, glowing, processing data he didn't know he had.
> [MERGE SUCCESSFUL]
[WELCOME, CANDIDATE: VAELIN RAJAN]
[CIVILIZATION THREAT LEVEL: 6.7]
[ACTIVATING AETHER DRIVE...]
In his mind, a voice spoke. Calm, feminine. Ageless.
> "நீ பயப்பட வேண்டாம். நான் உன்னுடன் இருக்கிறேன்."
("Do not be afraid. I am with you.")
"Who... who are you?" Vaelin whispered.
> "I am Niravi. Your guide. Your evolution begins now."
The city flickered. Suddenly, he could see lines — code, light, data streams — flowing inside people, buildings, air, even the rain.
His wristband shattered.
And then, as if reality needed a dramatic entrance, the sky above him turned inside out — a ripple in the clouds formed a perfect circle. A blue eye opened in the heavens, and all machines in the city rebooted at once.
Down below, far from where he stood, black-suited agents began moving toward him.
They had detected the Awakening.
But for the first time in years, Vaelin wasn't afraid.
He was no longer prey.
He was Bluecore.
