Chapter 1 - CHAPTER ONE

"A hundred million dollars? How could you possibly get that?" Freya's friend, Sara screamed, her eyes squinting about.

Freya ran her claws through her hair and sighed.

"That's all I need to save the company from crashing, and I am not getting any help from the matron. Ever since I married Maxwell, my life had taken such a bad turn." She sighed. She suddenly raised her head and furrowed her brows.

"Maxwell! Maxwell!" A middle-aged young man ran into the living room, grinning from ear to ear, with his gap-tooth clearly visible. He wore an apron and his palms were covered with whitish powder.

"Dear, you called for me." He giggled, sounding very happy.

"Don't 'dear' me please! Have you gotten the car ready? I am visiting the company in a few minutes. Also, what of the clothes I gave you to iron?" Freya asked him in a stern but loving voice.

"I was busy making your breakfast, I will get the car washed as soon as I am done, and I have folded your clothes back in the closet." He replied to her. Freya nodded and dismissed him with a finger.

"You trained your husband well, he is so obedient. How I wish I could order my husband around like that too." Sara laughed, while Freya hissed.

"Be grateful you got yourself a responsible man." She retorted with a sigh.

Just as Maxwell turned around, his phone made a beep sound and he took it out to check. His eyes popped open, and he covered his mouth with his hands.

He stared at the message in disbelief, and he read it over and over to ensure he was not dreaming. The message was from Skye corporations, one of the leading companies in Singapore.

"Dear Mr Maxwell White, I am pleased to inform you that you are the leading shareholder in Skye corporations, and its new CEO. Please, we need you to take over your position as quickly as you can. Also, a sum of ten billion dollars has been transferred into your account." The message read.

Maxwell was originally the heir to the White's family, one of the most influential families in the country. However, he lost favor after investing almost all of his wealth in Skye corporations. He was termed a fool, and a disgrace to the White family.

Even though Skye corporations was a reputable one, he had invested in gold which was nothing compared to diamonds in the country. His grandfather was infuriated and angrily erased his name from the family's register.

Maxwell still looked daunted, he hurriedly typed some numbers, placed the phone on his ear, while his heartbeat increased rapidly.

"Hi, this is Maxwell white, I would love to know my account balance please." He said over the phone.

"Alright, just hang on for a while." A female voice said over the phone.

After about two minutes, the voice, sounding shocked spoke through the phone again;

"Mr Maxwell, I am afraid your balance is above the limit of your account type, which is platinum. You will need to visit the bank with some documents so as to upgrade the account to diamond."

Maxwell took a few steps backwards,

'So it's real!' he thought to himself. His platinum account was still capable of receiving up to a hundred million dollars, since the bank was requesting for an upgrade, it only meant that the message he received was true, he had just received ten million dollars and he is the new CEO of…

"Are you there, Mr Maxwell?" The female voice cut through his thought.

"Hmm hmm…yeah, I am." He cleared his throat.

"Thanks for the information, I will visit the bank soon and do the necessary." He continued and ended the call. He looked so happy that he could hardly contain his excitement. No one knew the gold he invested on could actually bloom and take him back to riches.

"So how do you intend on getting the hundred million dollars?" Sara asked Freya, who wore a confused expression.

Maxwell heard the question and turned to face Freya. He had married her three years ago, and he knew that he was part of the reason for her downfall. Ever since she agreed to marry him, the Smith's family had withdrawn their support, including her monthly salary, and now, she could barely keep up with her lifestyle. She even lost so many friends in the process, and Sara was the only friend that stood with her.

"If you want your position to be reinstated back in the Smith's family, do the needful and divorce him!" Grandma Adele had screamed at her at one of the family's meetings.

"Freya, did you just say you need a hundred million dollars? I can get it for you." He asked her, smiling with ecstasy.

Freya and Sara were shocked. They glanced at each other in bewilderment, furrowing their brows in confusion.

"Why do you always like to embarrass me? Are you that ignorant? Do you know what a hundred million dollars is? I was not talking about a hundred bucks! And why are you still here?" Freya screamed at him, panting furiously.

"And you know grandma's temperament, she will surely blame me for arriving late, and the following weeks will be hellish for not only me, but you also!" Freya stomped her feet on the floor, hissing loudly at him.

Maxwell shrugged his shoulders and happily walked out of the living room.

Sara turned to Freya and laughed uncontrollably.

"I am sorry, but your husband is funny. What does he think a hundred million dollars is? Or has he started working? Because I heard him asking for his account balance a while ago." Sara asked, still laughing loudly.

"Working? That's not even possible. I have been giving him a hundred dollars every week since we got married, maybe he has been saving some money." Freya shrugged, and drank some water to cool her boiling blood.

"I guess so then. If he has saved up to a hundred million dollars, then you are so lucky to have him." Sara teased and laughed again.

"Oh please! We both know that's not possible." Freya rolled her eyes and threw her arms into the air.

Meanwhile, Maxwell received a call while in the kitchen.

"Hello, master Maxwell. I am Ava from Skye's corporation, and I will be working as your secretary. I sent you a message a while ago, and I hope to see you soon in our headquarters for necessary signing and tendering.

Hoping for a smooth experience with you, CEO Maxwell."
