An hour later, every one of my teammates had unlocked their chakra, and the same jonin as before joined us.
"So now that you've unlocked your chakra, it's time to learn basic chakra control. Raise your hand if you can climb a tree." We all raised our hands in the air. "Now, keep it raised if you can do it without using your hands." Every hand went down. "Exactly. Now, direct your chakra to the bottom of your feet and go up that tree." We all responded, "Yes, sensei." Each of us picked a tree, and we started trying to scale it.
The others started running, but I took a different approach. I thought, (You've got to walk before you run, they say). So that's what I did. I stepped on the bark of the tree and directed a tenth of my chakra to my feet. The tree exploded, getting cut in half. I thought, (Cool.) But unfortunately, for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. I was immediately thrown back with immense speed. My thoughts: (FUCK, I'm too young to die.) Thankfully, something caught me. It was the jonin from before. He grabbed me by the scruff of my neck. I heard a voice saying "What did you do wrong?" I replied, "Too much chakra" . "Yep. Now try again." "Yes, sensei."
I went to another tree and continued trying. This time, I used about half a percent of my chakra. I kinda stuck, but I felt a lot of pushback, so I dropped the amount to 0.1%, and this time, I stuck to the tree. Then I started walking up and down. When I was going up for the fifth time, I heard the instructor saying, "Good job. Now come with me."
He led me to the lake, where he said, "Do you know how to swim?".
"Yes, I d- "
Before I could finish my sentence, he pushed me into the lake. "You'll be able to leave the lake when you can walk on the water." He then leaned against a tree and took out a book. When I tried to get out of the water, I was kicked back into the lake. I looked at the jonin, but it seemed as if he never moved. (Damn, he's fast.)
I put my hand on the water and pushed some chakra through them. I felt the water pushing back. It was like the water solidified under my hand, so I did the same thing with my feet. When I finally stabilized on my feet and stood up, I looked at the jonin and yelled , " I did i- " Before I could react, I was hit by a pebble. I lost my concentration and fell into the water. When I regained my bearings, the jonin said, "When you can run on the water, call me over. I'm gonna go watch some kids fall on their face." With that, he left, and I was left on my own.
It took me some time, but I realized that I needed to change the amount of chakra depending on the depth of the water. So that's what I did. It took me some time, but I figured something out. For every meter of water under me, it took me 0.1% of my chakra. So I started going across the lake, at first walking, then running.
When I felt that I'd gotten a good feel for water walking, I went to the training field. There, I saw the others trying to walk up the tree. No one had gotten it yet, but some of them were getting close. They were beaten, scratched, and tired, but they didn't stop trying.
I walked over to the instructor. He turned to me and said, "Kid, you are done." "Yes, sensei." "Okay. It seems that the others still need some time, so let's find your chakra nature." He took a piece of paper from his pocket and said, "This paper is made from a special tree that allows chakra to flow through its atoms really well. Chakra at the subatomic level acts like electricity. Some things are insulators, and some are conductors. Chakra paper is a conductor."
"Flow a tiny amount of chakra through this paper. It's really sensitive, so don't overdo it.
- Fire: The paper will catch on fire and turn into ash.
- Wind: The paper will split in half.
- Lightning: The paper will wrinkle.
- Earth: The paper will turn to dirt and crumble away.
- Water: The paper will become damp."
I flowed some of my chakra through the paper, and it wrinkled immediately. "It seems your chakra nature is lightning, pretty common for the Land of Lightning." "Cool, so when do I start to learn jutsu?" "Slow down. You don't have a taijutsu style yet, and you want to learn jutsu? When you learn the basic taijutsu style of Kumo, then come to me, and I'll teach you some jutsu. Are we clear on that?"
"Yes, sensei."
"Good. Now go eat lunch and take the rest of the day off. Tomorrow is going to be tough."
"Yes, sensei."
As I was leaving, he turned to me and said, "Kid, wait." I turned back, and he continued talking, "When there aren't others around, call me Hirohito sensei."
"Yes, Hirohito-sensei."
We both smiled, and I left for the barracks.
