Chapter 9 - 9- Meeting the Family

CHAPTER 9

The alarm in Calista's room blared out loud, waking her from deep sDonp. Heaving a sigh, she sat on the bed with a racing heart. Orion was taking her to see his family and he was going to introduce her to them as his wife.

She didn't know what to expect even though he had told her some things about them. She just had a feeling that the visit wouldn't go well. She would have preferred if their marriage remained a secret until it was dissolved, but that wasn't up to her to decide.

"Which parent will be excited to hear their child had a secret wedding? What could be his reason?" she wondered.

She walked slowly to her wardrobe after having a warm bath and picked the dress Orion had instructed her to wear. It didn't look bad as she admired herself in the mirror.

As they stood in front of the house after pressing the doorbell, Calista's heart raced even more.

"Hello, Mom, Orion and Calista walked into the living room where his mother was seated, waiting for them. It was his sister who opened the door, but she frowned as soon as she saw Calista standing beside Orion. She looked at them with disgust and sighed before leaving the door open for them to enter.

"Ignore her," Orion whispered to Calista.

"Hi son, you didn't tell me my guest is a lady. I thought it was Jaxon," she said as she sized Calista from head to toe.

"Pretty lady, have a seat. What's your name?" She asked, thinking to see if she had heard such a name before.

"That name doesn't ring a bell," Mrs. Celeste Wolfe, Orion's mother said.

"And… what do you do for a living?" she asked.

"She's a student, mom. Please can you let her just be comfortable for a second? There'll be more than enough time to know more about her,' Orion snapped.

He knew his mother's questions were endless, and once she stopped asking the questions, she started criticizing whatever answers you gave her.

"Okay, fine," she raised her hands in surrender. "I just wanted to know your friend, since you didn't introduce her properly when you guys came in," she added.

"She's not my friend, mom…" Orion said before he saw his dad come into the living room with Lilith, Orion's adopted sister walking closely behind him.

"Orion, how are you?" his father said as he smiled broadly and patted his shoulder before ending his call.

"Beautiful lady, you're welcome," he said, smiling at Calista.

"Calista is her name," Orion said to his father.

"Good morning, sir." Calista greeted him immediately.

"You're welcome my dear, make yourself comfortable. So, Celeste, is the meal ready to be served?" Mr. Wolfe asked, shifting his gaze to his wife, who was still staring at Orion, waiting for him to complete his sentence."

"Lilith, go check on the chef. Orion, what were you saying? Did you bring a total stranger into our home?" Her voice was now firm.

He adjusted himself with Calista by his side, as he prepared to introduce her to his parents. He took a deep breath, "Mom, Dad, I'd like you to meet Calista Blakely, my wife," he said and exhaled sharply.

"What?" They chorused.

Calista smiled, trying so hard to be polite, but her smile was quickly replaced by a frown after Orion's mom spoke.

"You can't be serious. Is that how they do things? Don't tell me she convinced you to do a secret wedding with her?" Celeste said angrily.

"Son, it's a prank, right? I'm guessing you meant to say that you plan to make her your wife, is that correct?" Mr. Wolfe asked his son.

"Dad, I'm sorry I didn't carry you along, but this is what I've always wanted, a simple, private wedding, contrary to what my mom has been ringing in my ears. I didn't have the energy to fight her or continue refusing her choice of life partner for me, so I went ahead to make my choice and sealed it with a vow.

"This is unbelievable," his mother screamed.

"What you two have is a joke, and I won't accept it. You better return this thing to wherever you picked her from," she scoffed. She stood up to angrily leave, but her husband held her back.

"Easy woman," he said to her before turning to face Orion with a frown.

"So, you're telling me had a secret wedding, when you have a lovely family who looked forward to celebrating such a beautiful event with you?" He shook his head disappointed.

Lilith who came back to the living room just in time to hear what her father said opened her mouth in surprise, "What? You're married?" She asked Orion, but he ignored her.

Calista was speechless, she looked at Orion, expecting him to have the situation in control.

"Dad, I'm truly sorry this decision hurt you, but please accept it."

"Never! His mother screamed"

"I'm an adult, and I did what's best for me. Are you going to disown me because of this?" Orion asked.

"No son, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm angry with you," Mr. Wolfe said.

"Let's have brunch first, we'll talk about this later," he said, trying to be courteous.

"I've lost my appetite. Young lady, just so you know, you are not welcome into my home, you can as well leave," Celeste said, patting her foot in frustration.

"Then I'll leave too Mom. You can't accept me and reject her, we're not just dating, we're married. She's part of me now." Orion deadpanned and his mother looked at her husband to say something to defend her opinion, but he didn't.

She got upset and went upstairs, leaving them in the living room. Lilith hissed and followed her almost immediately.

"Erm… you guys should go eat something before the food gets cold. I'll go talk to your mother." Mr. Wolfe said before going after Celeste, his wife.

"I didn't expect them to be excited about this, but it is what is," Orion muttered.

"So, do you still have the appetite to eat here or do you want to leave?" He asked Calista whom he hurried out of the house without letting her have breakfast.

She looked at him, surprised that he was asking her such instead of making his decision as usual.
