Chapter 3 - Rain after summer

Vanya's birthday grew close as the days flew by, and before long, the warmth of summer began to wane, giving way to the gentle coolness of autumn. Vanya's nineteenth birthday was just around the corner, and the manor was abuzz with preparations.

Theresa was busy planning the party, consulting with Mrs. Rue about the menu and decorations. Vanya was excited but also a bit overwhelmed by all the fuss.

"Aunty Theresa, do we really need to make such a big deal about my birthday we don't need to strain much Aunty, it's just the people we know ? " Vanya asked, as they sat in the library, surrounded by party planning books and papers.

Theresa smiled. "Of course, dear. Your birthday is a special occasion, and we want to celebrate it in style. Besides, it's been a while since we've had a party here at the manor and it's all the extended family of the staffs in the house and we haven't met Joseph's own family."

Vanya nodded, though she still looked a bit uncertain. "Okay, if you say so. But can we please keep it simple? I don't want to be the center of attention too much."

Theresa chuckled. "I'll try my best, dear. But I think you'll find that it's going to be a wonderful party, and everyone will have a great time."

Meanwhile, Joseph was tasked with decorating the manor's gardens. However, he seemed to be taking his time, and Mr. Jones was getting impatient.

"Joseph, what seems to be the holdup?" Mr. Jones asked, as he watched Joseph lounging against a tree, looking rather relaxed.

Joseph shrugged. "Just taking a little break, Mr. Jones. I'm almost done."

Mr. Jones raised an eyebrow. "Almost done? It looks like you've barely started. Get to work, Joseph. We don't have all day."

Joseph sighed and reluctantly got back to work. However, as he was stringing up lanterns, he accidentally knocked over a bucket of paint, spilling it all over the grass.

"Oh no!" Joseph exclaimed, as Mr. Jones rushed over to survey the damage.

Mr. Jones's face turned red with anger. "Joseph, what have you done now? You're going to have to clean this up immediately."

Joseph looked sheepish as he apologized and began to clean up the mess. Mr. Jones shook his head, muttering under his breath about Joseph's carelessness.

As the day went on, the manor became busier and busier, with deliveries arriving and people scurrying about, preparing for the party. Vanya watched it all with a mixture of excitement and trepidation.

As the evening approached, the rain began to pour down, drumming against the windows and making the manor feel cozy and snug. Theresa smiled as she looked out the window.

They were lucky all preparations were made inside the house, though some outside welcome decorations maybe a throw but atlas it was no much trouble.

"I think this weather is perfect for a party," she said. "It'll make the decorations and lights even more magical."

Vanya nodded, though she was a bit worried about the guests arriving in the rain. However, Theresa reassured her that everything would be fine.

As they waited for the delivery man to arrive with the party Toulon , Theresa grew more and more restless. She paced back and forth in the foyer, looking out the window for any sign of the delivery man.

Finally, just as she was starting to get anxious, she heard a loud knocking on the door. She rushed to answer it, but Vanya beat her to it.

"Theresa, I'll get it," Vanya said, but Theresa just smiled and opened the door.

And that's when Vanya saw him, standing in the pouring rain, a large package under his arm. "Delivery for the manor," he said, with a friendly smile.

Vanya's eyes widened as she took in the package, and she felt a thrill of excitement. The party was really going to happen, and it was going to be amazing.

But just as she was about to ask the delivery man to bring the package inside, a loud clap of thunder boomed outside, making everyone jump. Vanya's heart skipped a beat as she looked up at Theresa, who was watching her with a concerned expression.

"Everything okay, dear?" Theresa asked, as the delivery man stepped inside, shaking the rain off his coat.

Vanya nodded, though she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. She looked at the delivery man, and then back at Theresa, her eyes locked on hers.

And then, just as she was about to speak, there was another knock at the door. This time, it was loud and insistent, and it seemed to be coming from the back of the manor.

Vanya's eyes met Theresa's, and they exchanged a curious glance. Who could it be, knocking behind the manors doors at this stormy evening , Mr jones where's Joseph, you must go look?
