Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Cold-Blooded

Okay, yeah, these guys definitely got things locked down. Jesus, look at all of 'em." Lyon muttered as he peered down through a skylight, watching the many Lizard League henchmen running about and tying up hostages. He sighed, and released a tired exhale. "I'm countin' at least thirty-five of 'em runnin' inside. Probably got more in the lower levels, too. And then there's the lieutenants we gotta deal with. The ones with actual powers." He said, his voice being carried out through the Omnitrix itself, connected through the earpieces handed out to the Guardians. "Alright, any ideas on how we're going to crack this nut open?" Lyon asked through the comms, pulling out a pair of sporty-looking sunglasses from his jacket's front pocket.

"We cannot risk an attack through the front. Especially with them taking hostages." Immortal stated, sounding just as gruff as Lyon imagined. The Immortal then gave a short pause, before a low hum escaped his throat. "What we need is a diversion to allow us to take them by surprise - to give us time to locate and rescue those hostages." He declared.

"A diversion, eh? I think I can make something like that. But I'm gonna need some help first." Lyon replied, a wide grin spreading across his features as he flipped open the Omnitrix, dialing in an alien. "I'm gonna need two people to lend me a hand here. Things are gonna get messy." He said, sliding on his new green-tinted sunglasses onto his face.

"Understood. War Woman, Green Ghost, help him out. We'll stay put until you give the signal." Immortal responded, as the figures of both Green Ghost and War Woman flew towards Lyon. "Remember, we cannot afford for any of the staff inside to be harmed or killed. So your first priority is to locate them and secure them." He stated.

"Don't worry, Immortal. We'll keep the new guy company. Just be ready when we call you." War Woman replied with cheerfully. "Let's see what you can do Alien-Man. Should be another routine Lizard League mop-up." She said with encouragement.

"Oh, you're gonna love this one." Lyon chuckled, the grin only growing on his face as he dialed in the alien he wanted. "And I'm so not picking 'Alien-Man' as my alias. Whatever. We've got a job to do. We can focus on names later." He grumbled, selecting the alien he desired on the Omnitrix as its button popped out. "Always wanted to say this. It's hero time!" Lyon exclaimed, slamming down on the faceplate of the Omnitrix as the familiar green flash consumed him.

Green Ghost, War Woman, and himself crashed straight through the skylight of the facility, Lyon's form matching the one he chose. Flesh and bone became blueish-green crystal, his shoulders broadening, and his height increased. The glass shattered beneath his feet, and Lyon allowed his new weight to carry him down towards the tile floor below, crashing into a mob of Lizard League goons.

"Diamondhead!" Lyon bellowed, announcing his new form and transforming his arms into a pair of crystalline mallets. "Eyes up, Guardians! We've got a lot of 'em in here! Their big hitters are probably lower down! So let's focus on those hostages!" He exclaimed, slamming his fists into a pair of henchmen, charging through their ranks with a wide grin on his crystalline face.

"Agreed! Green Ghost, you secure the hostages! Diamondhead and I are going to make some noise!" War Woman ordered, slamming her mace into the stomach of one henchmen, then flew towards another.

"Understood!" Green Ghost replied, phasing through a nearby wall, leaving War Woman and Lyon to fend off the henchmen.

"My name is not Diamondhead, by the way! I just like giving these guys names!" Lyon yelled out, grunting with exertion as he fought through the hordes of mooks. "How many of these guys are there!? And why are they all dressed like Sentai fodder!? This is so confusing!" He asked loudly, transforming one of his arms into a crystal shard launcher, and fired off a barrage of shards at a pair of henchmen trying to tackle War Woman from behind.

Lyon had to admit, he felt bad beating up seemingly ordinary people as Diamondhead. While yes, he knew they were part of technically a terrorist organization, these mooks were simply unpowered people fighting in mobs. They weren't the heavy-hitters of the Lizard League, probably just normal people recruited from the masses. Still, he had a job to do, and he knew he probably shouldn't feel bad for a bunch of hostage-takers.

Nevertheless, no matter what these goons tried, they failed to harm him in any way. From their fists, to their guns, they hardly did any damage to him. Such was the reason why he chose Diamondhead for his nearly invulnerable body. That, and Lyon did not want to risk damaging the structure, especially with hostages and valuable technology still inside. Using Armordrillo would have proved to be... more destructive than what needed to be done. Lyon was headstrong, but he wasn't stupid.

"It's a complicated story! Just focus on making sure they're mopped up! They can take a hit!" War Woman half-yelled-half-explained, swinging her mace around with blinding speed and skill, dashing from one goon to the other in quick succession. "Green Ghost! What's the situation with those hostages!?" She asked through the line.

"All hostages have been secured! But they say there's more in the lower levels of the facility!" Green Ghost responded, sounding quite strained, clearly still fighting some of the goons. "Would be nice to get some backup here!" He exclaimed.

"Then that's our cue." Immortal interrupted, a loud explosion and rush of air erupting from the front entrance of the facility. "Guardians!" He called forth, charging towards the persistent mob of henchmen.

It was certainly a sight to behold. A full team of proper superheroes facing off against a bunch of evil henchmen brought some nostalgic memories to Lyon. Memories of the Justice League, the Avengers, and the Teen Titans. While he wasn't able to bask in the glory of those titans, he was able at least find some comfort that he got to participate. Red Rush, Darkwing, Aquarus, Martian Man, War Woman, and the Immortal charged forth with perfect teamwork, with Darkwing employing several gadgets to deal with the masses of henchmen.

Meanwhile, Aquarus and Martian Man used their unique physiologies to the fullest. Blasting out streams of water or stretching their body to engage multiple mooks at a time. Meanwhile, Red Rush used his insane speed to deliver punches and jabs at nearly a dozen Lizard League footsoldiers at a time, perhaps able to give the Flash a run for his money. Lastly, Immortal and War Woman flew like speeding bullets, fists and mace swinging so fast Lyon couldn't even keep up.

However, such awe was short-lived, as a pair of large figures charged straight towards them. They were tall, muscular, and overall built like literal tanks. One of which even sporting visible signs of mutation, clearly reptilian in nature, with scoots acting as armor and a maw filled with razor-sharp teeth. Said crocodile-human was barreling straight at Lyon.

"Incoming!" Immortal called out, speeding past Lyon with the speed of a missile, knocking back Komodo Dragon off of his feet and into a steel railing.

"I've got this! Leave it to me!" Lyon exclaimed, slamming his hand on the Omnitrix as another green flash consumed his form.

His body grew taller than what it already, his crystal skin becoming a reddish-brown color and made of rock. In his stomach, was a red-hued core, his face growing larger as his arms and legs became the same material as the rest of his body. A large smile grew across his stony face, and Lyon flexed his arms. He could feel a strange power flow within him, as if everything around him could be pulled to him.

"Gravattack!" Lyon bellowed his name, his voice far more cavernous than before. "Alright, big guy. I'm not in the mood for some smack talk, so let's just weigh ya down." He stated, outstretching his large, four-digited hand towards the crocodile-human, a greenish-colored energy radiating out from his palms as he lifted both Komodo Dragon and Crocodile up high. "How about some bowling? Everyone likes bowling." Lyon asked with a grin, slamming both of his captives into a crowd of goons, then proceeding to slam them across the ceiling like ragdolls.

Gravattack was... weird, just like the rest of his aliens. It was almost on the instinctual sort of level did Lyon understand the concepts of gravity and what sort of things he could do, as if this information was flooded into his brain. In essence, Gravattack was a living planet, with a core in the center of his body which regulated his gravitic powers. Lyon could create himself an orbit, manipulate gravity, and perhaps even make a blackhole like what Ben did. Then again, that'd be overkill in any situation. Still, even when it came back to basics, Gravattack was still physically strong and durable.

"Okay, I think they've had enough. Let them go." Immortal said to Lyon, and he obliged, dropping Crocodile and Komodo Dragon onto the concrete ground with a thud. "Gravity powers? You really do have a transformation for any situation. Impressive." The ancient superhero hummed, nodding slightly.

Lyon then pressed the Omnitrix around his waist, transforming back into his usual self in the usual green flash. He grinned, and let out a short exhale, facing the Immortal as the rest of the Guardians joined in.

"Thanks, but I don't let it get to my head. Still gotta become human, one way or another." Lyon said, rolling his shoulders. "We still gotta deal with the rest of the Lizard League and their head honchos at the lower levels. So we're going to need a game plan." He stated, briefly checking on the Omnitrix.

"Agreed. Darkwing, can you hack into the security system and see what we're dealing with here?" Immortal asked, and Darkwing nodded in response.

"I can do that. Just give me a moment." Darkwing replied, motioning towards a nearby terminal, tossing off a Lizard League goon who lay unconscious upon it. Beneath his purple mask, he frowned, then whipped out a USB from his utility belt, inserting it into the computer. Darkwing cracked his fingers, and he let his hands to the rest of the work. "Okay, bad news. Lizard League managed to flood the level controlling security override. And they've also got access to the intercom." The caped hero said, pressing on a button on the console as a booming voice broke out across the loudspeakers.

"FOOLISH GUARDIANS! YOUR INTERFERENCE WITH OUR EFFORTS HAS GONE ON LONG ENOUGH! AND I, SUPREME LIZARD, SHALL-" Supreme Lizard's booming voice roared throughout the facility, only for Darkwing to cut it off mid-sentence.

"Now he's only speaking into a closed mic." Darkwing announced, removing his USB from the terminal.

"Oh great, it's him again." War Woman groaned out in annoyance, pinching the bridge of her nose. "Okay, slight change of plans. Looks like we're going to have to turn back on that security system for Darkwing so he can lock the exits. And I don't exactly plan on diving first into that water." She stated, resting her mace on her shoulder.

"Not to worry, War Woman, Alien-Man and I shall be able to reactivate the security override. Won't we?" Aqaurus assured, a wide grin forming on his fish-like face. "Darkwing, you did pack a rebreather in that belt of yours, correct?" The Atlantean King asked.

"Of course I did. I'm always prepared. Especially since last time I ventured to Atlantis." Darkwing scoffed in response, glancing at Lyon. "I hope you're ready for a swim. It's another two-hundred feet down." He said.

"I've got somethin' for that." Lyon said, priming the Omnitrix and dialing in his aliens. He smiled widely, and pressed down upon its faceplate, transforming himself in a flash of green light.

Lyon's body morphed, scales growing across his skin, his hands and feet becoming webbed, a large lure sprouting forth from the middle of his forehead. His skull became broader, razor-sharp teeth sprouting out and interlocking, his body becoming a foot taller as fins grew forth from his forearms and claws from his fingers. He chuckled, nice and deeply, and flexed his entire body.

"Ripjaws! Let's tear 'em up!" Lyon shouted in a deep, gravely voice as he gave his best 'smile' to the group. "What're you waiting for? Time for some action!" He exclaimed, running towards the flooded section of stairs and diving into the water with a perfect three-point dive.

At the sight however, Aquarus gawked, shaking his head as quickly joined in, diving into the water himself along with Darkwing.

"By Poseidon's trident, he's handsome!"
