Chapter 4 : Infinite Inventory
[You are now host to the Infinite Inventory System]
Zain was so shocked that for a few seconds he froze, unable to react to anything around him.
Then, his eyes started to blink very fast.
The floating panels remained in the air without disappearing as he mindlessly glared at them.
"A system?" he finally muttered.
The works of anime, web novels and comics had become very rampant in the world that everybody wanted to be cool, since being a geek was considered cool these days.
That was why Zain had an idea of what was in front of him since he was no stranger to web novels and anime.
His cheat finally activated!
Zain was too excited, his vibes rising very high like Fate had just named him the protagonist of a story.
He clenched his fist tightly and celebrated.
*Ding*
[Starting countdown…]
[01 hr : 00 mins : 00 secs]
[Every item stored in the Infinite Inventory stands the chance of granting you one cubic meter of storage space]
[For every $1000 stored, one cubic meter (1m³) of space is gained]
[Good luck, Zain Hargreaves!]
Zain did not have the time to start thinking or try to figure out what the system could or could not do.
At this moment, he had been issued his first quest.
Even though it was not a direct quest, it was still important that he put as many items as he could lay his hands on into the Infinite Inventory.
If it was what he assumed it to be from one glance of reading, then every inch of space that he could gain from this mattered a lot.
[00 hr : 59 mins : 47 secs]
*Swoosh*
Zain immediately grabbed his phone, since it was the item closest to him.
Without wasting a second, he put it into this mysterious storage space that the system granted him.
*Ding*
[Mobix M2 stored]
[Estimating value]
[Item value: $2499]
[Your inventory has grown by two cubic meters (2m³)]
Subconsciously, Zain felt something.
It was as if he could see the finite space expand after the system announced his rewards for storing his phone.
The Infinite Inventory was starting to gradually grow and all he needed to do was to get as much space as possible within the time given.
This would change a lot of things for him, considering what was to come.
******
Zain took a few minutes from the sixty-minute time limit to actually pay better attention to how this Infinite Inventory System worked, and he figured out a few things.
First and foremost, he could summon whatever item he had already stored previously.
He also did not have to actively store them into the space as they could also disappear if marked for storage.
It was an experiment he tested out with his phone, calling it back and forth until he got the hang of it.
Secondly, the system only recognised the original worth of an item, whether it was washed out or not.
That was a good thing. It only meant that he wouldn't have to discriminate between what items he wanted to store now.
Zain went on a rampage, picking up whatever thing he could find, no matter how big or small it was.
The point was to gain as much storage space as possible. Since he could summon and disperse the items whenever he wanted, it was not a problem.
*Ding* *Ding* *Ding*
[Gold Zolex wristwatch stored]
[Six cubic meters of space gained!]
[Toothbrush stored]
[Key holder stored]
[Wooden table stored]
[Wooden chair stored]
…
Zain ran up and down the house, picking every single thing that his eyes caught sight of, even down to the gifts the Hargreaves had brought to massage his ego with.
He stored everything.
He continued dismantling until he emptied the entire house, and there was nothing more he could find to store again, both inside and outside the house.
Zain was tired.
His chest was heaving visibly as he sat on the bare floor, trying to catch his breath.
He had just done intensive work within a short period.
However, he was glad that he could meet up.
He rested and watched the countdown hit zero.
*Ding*
[Time up!]
[You stored $300,479 worth of items]
[Congratulations!]
[Your storage space has expanded to 300m³]
Zain smiled and chuckled.
It was worth it after all.
After reading the system notification, the young man rose to his feet, wearing only a pair of black jeans and the belt that held them in place around his waist.
Zain walked barefoot around the empty house since he also stored his shoes in the inventory.
He went to get Rocky.
"Let's go, boy."
Before they left, Zain summoned his shirt, shoes and the dog's leash as they prepared to go.
Zain stared at the house one last time and smiled.
Nostalgia had taken over him at that moment, and he was definitely going to miss being here.
He had no choice but to go.
Even if Zain wanted to stay, he couldn't since the house had already been sold to the Hargreaves on behalf of his stepbrother, Michael.
Staying here even a minute longer than the three days he was given would cause trouble and Zain did not have the energy for such drama.
"Chop, chop," Zain motioned to Rocky as he shut the door behind them.
******
Four days later.
"WHHHAAATTTT!" Michael shouted at the top of his lungs. He almost went crazy because of what he was looking at right now.
His heart started to pound faster with every second that passed.
He had boasted to his new wife about this place after their wedding the previous day and now he was longing at a completely empty house.
Zain had cleared the place out, down to the window and even the light bulb.
Safe to say that the only things he left for Michael and his new bride were the house and the paint.
If Zain could store those too, he would have.
Michael was boiling red with rage as he clenched his fist, almost chewing his teeth into powder from anger.
"That bastard! Zain!"
