Chapter 1 - Chapter 1.1: Rebirth and Reckoning

"We are still students. It's not right for you to do this."

It was almost dusk. The mist was light, and the sun was warm. Soft sunlight draped the bedside in a gentle orange glow. The wind quietly slipped through the half-open window, sweeping away traces of heat and silence.

On the bed, she held the boy's school uniform in one hand, while her other hand rested on the zipper of his pants. The buttons of his shirt had been completely torn open, revealing a small corner of his black underwear.

He resisted slightly, his large, doe-like eyes looking helpless and shy.

Shi Mu withdrew her hand in shock and took a few careful steps backward.

This was a couple's hotel. Behind him, the pink heart-shaped bed was covered with roses. The orange light still glowed softly, casting an ambiguous purple hue. Shi Mu felt something in her mouth and spit it out. It was a small blue square bag with one corner torn open. The word "Durex" was printed on it.

Her eyes went blank.

The boy, having escaped, seemed relieved. He hurriedly zipped up his school uniform from bottom to top, securing it tightly, then turned his back and adjusted his pants.

He was still young, barely out of childhood, and did not know how to suppress his physiological reactions. The slight bulge between his legs made him blush.

Fu Yunrui pulled his school uniform shirt down to partially cover it, then turned his head cautiously.

"Shi Mu, are you still taking tutoring classes?"

The boy was in his voice-changing period. His clear voice, tinged with a slight hoarseness, sounded gentle and moving.

Shi Mu came back to her senses and looked at him.

Fu Yunrui was tall and thin, with pale white skin, round and moist black eyes that sparkled, medium-length black hair, and a clean, harmless demeanor.

She shuddered, bit her upper and lower lips with her snow-white teeth, and fled the room as if escaping.

Fu Yunrui was stunned: "Hey…"

The next second, he picked up their backpacks and chased after her: "Shi Mu, your backpack!"

Shi Mu did not look back: "No more!"

He frowned, but before he could leave, the cashier at the front desk stopped him: "Please check out."

"…"

Dusk faded and the sky darkened completely.

The streets bustled with cars and people, and the night scene was lively. Shi Mu walked alone. Passing a clothing store, she stopped.

The girl in the mirror appeared to be about sixteen or seventeen years old, around 163 cm tall. Her hair was tied in dreadlocks. Her youthful face, still not fully matured, was heavily made up. She wore revealing shorts, exposing two slender legs, resembling a rebellious girl.

Looking at this reflection, she was confused. Did she really travel through time?

Shi Mu was twenty-one this year. After graduating from a prestigious university, her family experienced a sudden upheaval. Unable to bear the blow, Shi Mu spent her days in a daze. Later, an accident took her young life.

After her death, Shi Mu remained conscious; her soul wandered aimlessly in the human world. Watching the bustling crowds and the sunshine she could never reach again, she realized the true beauty of life.

After an unknown period, a voice suddenly appeared. The speaker claimed to be from the Space-Time Administration Bureau, responsible for managing space-time with distorted values and incorrect worldviews. The voice said that if Shi Mu accepted their task, she would be given a chance to live again. Shi Mu accepted.

She thought it was just a dream, but…

While she was still stunned, the voice spoke again.

[The host will be receiving memories in three seconds.]

After a brief tingling sensation in her brain, various images flashed before her eyes like a kaleidoscope.

This new body had the same name and surname as hers and was just over seventeen years old. Shi Mu's mother was from the Miaojiang-Li ethnic group. It was said that their female ancestors were powerful witches who could cast spells, control the undead, use talismans, and exorcise ghosts. However, as time passed, these tales became mere legends.

On the day Shi Mu was born, all delicate flowers and weeds within ten miles withered, and heavy rain followed for the next half month without clearing. Her twin brother Shi Li was admitted to the county hospital's intensive care unit immediately after birth. Shi Mu, however, was healthy and full of energy. After rescue, her brother's health remained poor. Concerned, Shi Mu's grandfather hurried from Miaojiang. Upon seeing Shi Mu, he noticed she was different. The young baby was born with a charm. Since she had been in the womb, she had been draining the life from her brother to sustain her own. As a result, Shi Li's health worsened day by day.

Additionally, the baby inherited her ancestors' abilities. Her eyes could see what mortals could not.
