The unexpected
"I have definitely seen Lana before but I can't tell where or when," Adrian stated, shortly after getting into his car.
"That's true sir, she does look familiar," Adam added.
Adam was Adrian's personal bodyguard. He was the closest to Adrian and he's worked for him the longest, so there was some level of trust between the two. The meeting between Adrian, Luna and the rest ended abruptly.
When the atmosphere was unbearable, I walked away from the meeting. I needed more time to think. Few weeks ago, I was a happy teacher. I was celebrating how perfect my life was.
Now am pregnant for a man I barely know who doesn't even think its my right to decide if I want to keep the baby or not. I felt my life was falling apart. I never knew the uncertainty that awaited me just weeks to come.
I called my mom Zoila, crying seriously on the phone.
"Mom, I can't believe this is happening to me. My life is ruined, I don't know what to do," I said, pausing momentarily to take short breaths, blow my nose and wipe my face.
"Oh honey, it breaks my heart to see you like this. Am gonna come over this evening, you need me," my mom said. She was right, I needed her more than ever. Zoila was my mother, but she was also a friend to me.
Ever since my father died when I was just 10 years old, Zoila filled that void. She raised me all by herself and she did an incredible job because I turned out okay. Well except for this unfortunate incident.
When she came over, I wasted no time in telling her in detail, everything that had happened. At first, she couldn't believe it, but with more details, she started to connect the dots.
"My child, facing unexpected setbacks is part of life. You have to be strong, I will advice you but I will still support any decision you make," Zoila said to me.
These are the comforting words I longed to hear.
"You have three options dear. Have an abortion, give birth and sen the baby to its father or give birth and be a mother to that child. Being a good mother is hard, but you can do it if you put your mind to it," she said while looking at me straight in the eye.
I really wanted to give this baby a chance at a decent life. I have heard about Adrian Cole. People write about him being an outstanding businessman and a great figure in the tech world.
I've also herd that he is proud and arrogant. This is common with most rich men. I was torn between three choices. Do I really want to have a child with Adrian Cole? I don't want my child to be proud and arrogant.
Will Adrian be a good father? These and many more thoughts plagued me continuously for a few days. Aborting this child was not an option because it deserves a chance at life and I was willing to do what it takes.
I found the courage to call for another meeting. This time, I hired a lawyer.
"You didn't have to show up with a lawyer Lana, it hasn't gotten to that," Adrian said to me.
"I needed legal guidance and that's why he's here," I responded.
"I have made a decision," am keeping the baby," I said with a little shred of hope.
"Oh thank the heavens," Adrian exclaimed, relieved at my decision.
"The baby will remain with me after delivery," I continued.
"Is this a joke? Adrian asked.
He seemed shocked at what I said.
"The baby will be with me, am in a better position to take care of the baby," he arrogantly said.
"What is that supposed to mean, are you saying I can't take care of the baby," I asked.
By now, we were both upset at each other. How can my child be raised without me and I am alive and well. I wouldn't let it happen. My lawyer stepped in.
"I think you both should focus on the most important things first," he said boldly.
"The child is yet to be born, why not focus on making sure the baby is well taken care of before delivery. Then after delivery, you can figure out custody issues.
"Lana, you will be surprised at the length I am willing to go for my child, don't test my patience," Adrian said to me.
This sounded like a threat to me but he insisted he was only making a point.
He went on to discuss a payment plan with my Lawyer Sawyer. He wanted to make sure the baby is well taken care of no matter what. He wanted to send money monthly strictly for the baby's needs.
"I don't need your money, I can do it on my own," I told him clearly.
"The money is not for you then, Its for my child," he responded.
I was so upset with Adrian, he seemed to always have a perfect response for me.
"I have one request tho, I don't want the media to get wind of this. I want the whole process to happen quietly.
He was a private man who kept his personal life away from the media. That is why all we knew about him was that he was a tech guru and a successful business man. No one knew anything else.
Some people even thought he was gay because they never saw him with anyone. Little did they know that he only kept his personal life personal. He loves privacy.
Based on this, I understood why he made that request, to keep everything secret. I mean, it wasn't like I was proud of getting pregnant for a man whose house address and name I didn't even know at the time.
But I wasn't going to tell anyone anyways, Only my mom knew so if anyone else knew, it wouldn't be from me. Unfortunately for Dr Evelyn, Adrian was already preparing to sue her.
Its unfortunate what happened to her, but she had to pay for the mistake she made that has now altered the lives of three individuals. I can only hope she learns her lesson. After a while, I started to see the possibility of actually having this baby.
Camille Dean, Adrian's ex who is also a lawyer suspected that something was going on. She found out that Adrian visited ClinoWest fertility clinic quite often. She could only wonder what it was.
During her relationship with Adrian, she wanted to have a child for him but Adrian refused. She was the reason he no longer believed in dating.
I hope she won't drown herself in tears when she finally finds out that another woman is pregnant for the same Adrian who refused to have a baby with her.
