Chapter 4 - Chapter 3: Lurking Evil

"By the arrows of heaven, Gather and fall like rain—Pierce the darkness!"

"Divine Arrow Storm!"

Skill Description: Ranged / AoE (Area of Effect) / Crowd Control / Divine Conjuration / Multi-Projectile

(Divine Arrow Storm is when the user releases a single holy arrow into the sky, summoning a radiant circle of light above. From it, a divine storm unfolds—countless glowing arrows rain down, striking the targets from below with unrelenting precision.)

FWOOSH!

Arrows of light hissed through the air.

A radiant circle ignited in the sky, and from it, countless holy arrows rained down like a storm of judgment.

The Marksman stood firm, his eyes locked on the swarm of approaching monsters. As he cast his skill, divine light surged from above—each arrow humming with sacred energy.

Loud cries filled the air as the monsters were struck.

One by one, the monsters shrieked as the arrows struck, piercing their twisted forms. Dozens fell, scorched and silenced beneath the heavenly barrage.

"Bones of the earth, break—

Ground, obey my strength!

By my will, let the land rise and strike!"

"Earth Slam!"

Skill Description: Physical Skill / Melee / Area Disruption / Impact-Based / Stagger Effect / Crowd Control / Shockwave

(Earth Slam is a combat technique where the wielder slams their weapon—typically an axe—into the ground, channeling force through the earth. The impact creates a sudden rupture in the ground, sending shockwaves and cracks outward toward enemies.)

The axe-wielding swordsman raised his weapon and slammed it into the ground with a loud roar.

BOOM—CRACK!

The axe hit the ground with a deafening force.

The earth cracked beneath him. Five long fractures shot out like lightning. The three giants stumbled, caught off guard by the shaking ground. Smaller monsters yelped in surprise as the cracks broke under their feet.

Dust rose into the air.

The ground trembled, even where we stood.

The monsters were stunned just long enough for the two to pull their wounded companion away from danger.

"Vangeline, heal his wounds!" the Marksman shouted to the Priestess.

"Yeah, I'm on it!" she answered quickly, hurrying over.

The swordsman with Excalibur groaned and tried to sit up.

"Don't worry… it's just a scratch," he said with a small, tired smile.

The axe-wielder came over and lightly smacked the back of his head.

"You fool. That scratch could be cursed, corrupted, poisoned, or infected," he said. "You never know with these monsters."

The Excalibur swordman let out a short laugh.

"You always ruin the moment."

Vangeline placed her glowing hand over his wound. A soft golden light spread from her palm, and the injury slowly closed. His breathing eased, and the pain left his eyes.

"By the grace of Raphael, the healer divine, With your healing touch, take away all pain."

" Divine Magic: Divine Heal!"

He stood again, gripping his sword tightly.

"Thanks, Vangeline. I'm ready."

But there was no time to rest. More monsters appeared—crawling out of the cracks, rushing from the shadows, growling and shrieking.

"They just keep coming," the Marksman muttered, eyes narrowing.

" Be prepared, guys."

The ground shook slightly again.

The Marksman kept firing his Holy Light Arrows, one after another. Bright streaks of light pierced through the air, striking monsters left and right. The arrows emerged and conjured from his gold and silver bow design.

Meanwhile, the two swordsmen were holding the front, swinging their blades again and again as more creatures rushed in from the trees.

With only a few arrows left, I joined them in fighting off the monsters.

I fired my last wooden arrows, helping them push back the monsters.

I did what I could—loosing my remaining arrows into the horde.

"Why did they even assign us here? We're just C- Rank Adventurers!" the Priestess complained.

"It's fine," the axe-wielder replied, cutting down another skeleton. "We're already clearing our part of the Forbidden Woods in this area."

"We'll get promoted after this," the Excalibur swordsman said, trying to stay positive as he swung a blow with his glowing blade.

I stayed behind them, listening to their conversation while keeping my head low.

"Worse, we've got to protect a commoner here," the Excalibur swordsman added, glancing back at me.

They all turned to look at me with teasing grins.

I felt my cheeks go red.

Ehe… it's my fault they've got extra work because of me.

Suddenly, three dark flames came flying from the sky—burning with black and corrupted light. They were coming our way.

The Marksman's eyes widened.

"Vangeline!" he shouted.

"I'm on it!" the Priestess replied quickly, raising her scepter.

She stepped forward, planting her feet as a golden light began to shine around her Scepter.

"Light of the divine, become our shield!

By the grace of heaven, let no darkness pass!"

"Light Barrier!"

Spell Description: Defensive / Light Element / Sustained / Impact Absorption / Barrier-Type / Support

(Light Barrier is a sacred spell that conjures a shining shield of divine light to block incoming attacks. The barrier appears as a translucent wall or dome of glowing gold or white light, forming instantly around the caster or target. It is strong enough to repel both physical strikes and magical projectiles.)

A hard glow of light surrounded us just in time—the dark flames slammed into her barrier and exploded on impact, shaking the ground beneath our feet.

More flames followed. Sparks burst in every direction. Thick smoke started to rise, clouding our vision. The scent of burnt air and ash filled our lungs.

I swallowed hard.

The monsters weren't stopping. They were coming our way—closer, faster, louder.

And this battle was far from over.

The air felt heavier.

The golden barrier flickered under the pressure, fine cracks starting to spread across its glowing surface.

"I can't hold the shield barrier forever!" the Priestess cried, her voice strained as she pushed more energy into the spell.

She glanced toward the sky, sweat running down her spine.

"Figure out who's throwing it!" she shouted.

The Marksman narrowed his eyes, quickly scanning the treetops and shadows ahead.

"Alright," he said, raising his Enchanted bow. "Leave it to me."

"Let all be seen under heaven's glow—Light of enchantment, pierce the veil and reveal the truth!"

"Lumous Shot!"

Skill Description: Ranged / Radiance / Flare-Type / Utility / Detection / Vision / Support

(Lumous Shot is an enchanted arrow infused with radiant light. When fired into the sky, it bursts into a soft, glowing flare that illuminates the battlefield. The magical light reveals hidden enemies, exposes illusions, and lights up dark paths, allowing allies to see clearly through fog, darkness, or magical concealment.)

FWOOSH!

His Holy Light Arrow pierced straight through our shield barrier.

A single arrow of light hissed through the air.

The arrow shone brightly in the sky before descending—landing in the area where the dark flames had come from.

Moments later, two witches appeared at the far edge of the clearing, near the base of the statue of Archangel Michael.

Witches are among the many dark followers devoted to Lilith, the Demoness ofLust. Unlike succubi and incubi, who seduce through flesh, witches wield forbidden magic. They are sorceress that cast curses, summon illusions, and practice dark arts to torment and weaken their foes. Their rituals are cruel, their spells laced with corruption. As Lilith's spellcasters, they spread her influence through hexes and unholy rites.
