Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 9

"Figlio"

His unmistakable voice boomed from the entrance of the room I was in. Still rough, and deep as I remembered. He closed the door behind him as he invited himself in, drowning out the blast of the soft Trallalero music playing and chatters of the men and women in black.

I rubbed my forehead with my left index finger as if trying to wade off an incoming headache.

"Now is not the time Fernando" I spat, addressing him by his name. He lost the dad tag a long time ago.

"Voglio solo parlare, figliolo"

The way he keeps addressing me as Son it's taking all of my will power not to snap at him, there and then.

"Well, I don't want to talk" I finalized as I poured the rest of the whiskey into the glass, clutching the glass in my hand, I stepped out of the room, bumping my shoulder into him, since he stood in the way.

Being confined in a room with him had me imagining so many gory ways I could end him, I had to step out.

My peace however, was rather short-lived, because he wouldn't just get the hint. Coming up behind me, he sighed loudly.

"How long will you keep up this childish act?" he gritted out.

I could tell his patience with me was running thin, ironic.

My hands tightened around the whiskey glass, and I thought of smashing it into his head, but when my eyes met with my mother's who stood with Sofia as they gazed up at the both of us from their standing position downstairs, in the middle of the ballroom, I had a change of heart, and vented on the poor liquid as I vigorously gulped it in one go, completely ignoring the black, long-haired man that stood behind me. I leaned forward and rested my elbows on the railings, already sick of this event.

"Forget it! it was actually stupid of me to tell Sofie to try to persuade you to come, if you're going to keep being an ungrateful bastard, then so be it!" He spat, with anger in his eyes.

I couldn't have heard him right. His words hit me like a brick, and whatever shred of control I had left, broke on impact.

Slowly, I leaned up from the railing and turned my body towards him, my eyes, I'm sure never portrayed this much coldness before, because for the first time ever in my life, I saw fear cross his eyes.

The air in the room seem to shift along with my mood, and became thick with something darker. The people inside the hall, also picked up on the change, as their loud chatter gradually quieted down into nothing, but hushed whispers and murmurs, with eyes following the directions of pointed fingers.

"Che cazzo mi hai appena detto?"

My voice came out low, so fucking low, but the deep growl beneath it didn't go unnoticed by him. He caught himself and clenched his jaw, discarding any form of fear I had seen earlier.

"Oh, so now you can talk?" He spat out with a dry chuckle, shaking his head, he attempted to walk back downstairs, but I caught him, and with trained reflexes my hand gripped his neck, strangling him as I smashed his back into the wall of the room we just walked out from.

Loud gasps and yelp resonated round the entire hall. People moved out of our way in fear, but their eyes still trained on us in curiosity. I could feel her staring again, but this time, I didn't give a damn. This fucker had it coming since that night.

"You bastard! You dare to call me an ingrate?" I roared.

The orchestra, sensing the shift in the atmosphere, let their music fade away, leaving an unsettling stillness.

I pushed him harder into the wall, his writhed grunts came in response, trying his hardest to untangle my hands from his neck, but I was much stronger than him.

"I did everything you asked! Every single fucking thing!" I boomed, flinging his fitted body forward, making him stagger and almost fall over the railing, but he quickly caught himself and leaned his side on it instead, catching his breath, his head turned towards me in shock.

With the demeanor of an apex predator, I stalked towards him in slow and calculated steps, staring him down.

"You wanted a sniper for a son, I became that, I became the best!" I said pointing my index finger at him.

"You wanted an assassin, here I am! You wanted a ruthless beast to succeed you, look at me Fernando! I am the most ruthless of them all." I said with a dry laugh that sounded deathly sick, even to my own ears.

"No sign of weakness, you told me, once again, I omitted all of my weaknesses. But the one thing, just one thing that I asked of you!" I raised my voice at the last part, snapping my thumb and index finger together to make a tiny gesture.

"It had to be done!" He raised his voice in return, which only made me angrier if that was even possible.

My whole body shook with rage as I stared at him in disbelief. In the corner of my eye, I saw Romano try to come to us, but Sofia held her hand over his, signaling him to stay put. Like I said, she's the smartest.

"She was the only weakness you couldn't seem to get rid of."

He continued, rising to his full length, he took staggered steps towards me.

"You wouldn't be this powerful if I hadn't done the one thing you were too weak to do" he finished.

In my years of living, I had never felt a fury like that, it took over my entire being like how death would a soul. I drew out my gun and pointed it directly at his forehead.

"Lucien!"

I heard my mother scream as she rushed up the stairs with Sofia hot on her trail.

"Brother please, think."

"I have." Came my response as I turned off the safety of my gun, the sound rang loud and clear.

"You haven't! there are people watching us brother, foes and friends are in this hall"

Damn you Sofia!

"You kill him, then you might as well hand them the knives to slit our throats!" She forced out in a whisper through gritted teeth.

Fucking Damn you Sofia!

I scanned the entire hall with my eyes, she was right. Both our foes and friends were cramped up in this space, they guise it well, but their true intentions will no doubt be exposed, eventually.

I lowered my gun, deciding I had had enough of this meaningless gala, I made a move to head back down the stairs, when his next words broke the last tenacity, I had left.

"I did you a solid! Believe it or not! She was a whore, you couldn't get attached to a whore I raised you better than that!" he bellowed.

Sofia cursed loudly, turning to glare at the exact same image of me, just slightly older versioned.

I shut my eyes tightly, and in an instant, I had him pinned to the wall again, this time with much fervor than before. My hands shook as they strangled him, his skin turning pale before my eyes, as his breathe came out much labored.

"Wh… why?" were the only words he could get out.

"Perche' stava portando mio figlio!" I roared with a loud voice.

Dropping my hands from around his neck, I stared at him dead in the eye.

"Because she was carrying my child" I repeated in English, my voice dropped to a low growl. I breathed out before adding

"you didn't just kill her, you killed my baby, your own grandchild!"
