Chapter 59 - A life I never deserved

INT. HILLSIDE MARKET – AFTERNOON

Colorful stalls stretch along a quiet mountain path.

Mahi drags Saif behind her, excited by every little thing — bangles, scarves, local spices.

MAHI (excited):

"Look at this! You'd look good in this scarf."

SAIF (raising eyebrow):

"Only if you wear those glittery bangles."

MAHI:

"Done."

They laugh. Shopkeepers smile at them — some already recognize the duo.

Locals whisper, "They look so cute together ".

---

INT. SMALL CAFE – SAME DAY

Rain starts suddenly.

They duck into a wooden café, warm and rustic.

Mahi shakes the water off her dupatta, giggling.

Saif orders their usual:

One black coffee. One chocolate milkshake. Two straws.

They sit near the window.

MAHI (mock serious):

"Okay, serious question.

If we had a dog, what would you name it?"

SAIF (without missing a beat):

"Trouble."

MAHI:

"That's not fair. I'd name it after you."

SAIF:

"Exactly. Trouble."

She pretends to be offended. He smirks.

They sip from the same glass.

For a moment — everything feels perfect.

---

EXT. FOGGY CLIFFSIDE – EVENING

Later, they walk along a cliff trail wrapped in fog.

Mahi's fingers brush against Saif's hand.

She slowly links her pinky with his.

MAHI (softly):

"I don't know who I used to be.

But I like this version of me."

SAIF (staring ahead):

"You're still you.

You still stop to feed stray puppies.

You still hum while you read.

You still laugh with your eyes."

She leans her head on his shoulder as they walk.

---

INT. COTTAGE – NIGHT

A power cut.

The cottage is dark. Only candles flicker.

Mahi and Saif sit on the floor, playing cards.

She cheats — blatantly.

SAIF (laughing):

"You're terrible at this."

MAHI (grinning):

"But I win."

She places a soft peck on his cheek.

He freezes.

MAHI:

"For good luck."

And gets up, humming to herself.

He touches the spot she kissed…

eyes closed.

As if he's memorizing this life,

for the day he fears it will all disappear.
