Chapter 8 - Heart Issues

"Let's not get our hopes too high because Doctor Escobar decided to act cool. He might as well be pretending, just to aid your recovery. Next time won't be funny." Kelly advised. He was the only person thinking In a different direction.

"I am a bit confused right now

What are you talking about?" George asked. Confusion has spread over his face like a virus. He ended up losing a few brain cells the moment he attempted to understand Kelly's standpoint.

"There's no need for you to freak out.

I was talking about your son, Dexter.

Don't you think we should invite him over?" Kelly advised. It sounded like a good plan until Dexter's name was mentioned.

George frowned at the suggestion immediately. "Like seriously? Dexter? You witnessed the brawl that happened between us in my office. Because of him, I suffered a heart attack. What are the odds that he would show up?"

"It's better than not trying.

You are not going to fold your arms and do nothing while you get kicked out of the hospital, would you?"

"What makes you think he's going to kick me out? Come on, man. The Doctor was nice to me. You said it yourself," George boasted as he banked on Doctor Escobar's recent display that seemed promising. With that, he realized that he didn't need to plead with Dexter to come through for him.

"Now I am convinced that you are losing your mind. I can't believe you will fall for the doctor's mind games. You just got admitted with heart issues. Do you expect him to be rude to you? Of course not. He wants to see you here better again," Kelly cried. He gave George a thousand reasons Dexter needed to be invited. Unfortunately, George never paid attention to Kelly. The way George shunned Kelly made it seem as though the latter didn't even exist.

Kelly sighed in frustration. It was obvious that he was disappointed in his friend for not trusting him. His face was sweaty, too, despite the Air conditioner being turned on.

"I don't intend to be biased or pry into your affairs, but I think my father is right." Ciara cleared her throat and broke the long silence between her father and George. She had the urge to back off, but her conscience kept haunting her with a machete, threatening to chop off her head if she didn't speak up.

"I am sorry if I have to say this, but we all know Dexter is a jerk. Convincing him to come to this hospital might seem difficult. But what choice do we have? He's the only option we got," she concluded.

"Did you listen to what she just said?

It's a good thing, right? I wasn't the only sane person here. I was afraid that I was imagining things," Kelly muttered succinctly after Ciara said the same thing he had been clamoring about.

"Fine! You can go call him,"

George finally accepted but not without grumbling. He might have accepted the challenge. However, his face suggests otherwise

Kelly wasn't bothered about that.

What he cared about was getting George's approval before making the first move. He doesn't care if George ends up hitting his head against the wall, either.

"How do we reach out to him?

Did you get a number? Or his present whereabouts?" Ciara raised the question.

"I am not sure you want to reach out to him over the phone. Once he knows you are calling, he will end the conversation before it even starts." George said. His utterances sounded a bit discouraging to Ciara and Kelly.

"So what do you suggest we do now? Since you just warned us against reaching out over the phone?" Kelly quizzed. He looks pale, yet he isn't the one with the heart attack. He was gradually losing his voice, too.

"He should be at home.

I will text you my home address and his phone number. Even though I know he's not going to listen to you over the phone, the phone number will still serve as a guide," George explained. He also suggested that they go in his car to ease the stress.

"I wish you two the best of luck.

If you ever need some sort of assistance, don't forget to reach out to me over the phone," George added as he watched them leave.

"I just received a text from George now.

The case has been sorted out. We now have everything we wished for," Kelly called Ciara's attention the moment they entered George's car.

As Kelly was about to start the car and drive out, Ciara halted him. "Dad, please wait. I have a question for you,"

"Not now, Ciara.

We have a mission to accomplish.

The last thing I want right is a distraction and that's precisely what you're doing right now," Kelly snarled.

"The question has got something to do with this mission. It's just a question. I promise not to waste your time," Ciara pleaded.

"Okay. Go on with the question, but make it quick. We made a promise to George. It's only ideal if we fulfill it," Kelly finally consented. However, he appears to be restless as his heart beats faster.

"Why did you choose to do this?"

Ciara raised the provocative question that has been on her lips for a long time

"I don't understand what you're talking about. Can you clarify it? You're messing with my head,"

"I am speaking about your loyalty to George. First, you wanted me to marry his son, and now you are going this far to go fetch his son. What are you doing now? His errand boy? Is there something about your friendship with George you don't want me to know?" Ciara wept. She sounded so bitter and curious to find out.

Immediately, she asked; she felt a bit relieved, as though a massive tomb had rolled away from her heart.

Kelly couldn't speak in his defense, and neither did he yell at Ciara for speaking to him in that tone of voice.

He buried his face to the ground in guilt.
