Chapter 19 - The Madonna of Kuoh Academy

Chapter 19: The Madonna of Kuoh Academy

Akeno stared at Akira seriously as she made her declaration.

Go out with you?

That caught Akira completely off guard. For a moment, he just looked at her, mind blank.

"If I could date Akeno-senpai—the queen of popularity—it would be like winning the lottery. So… senpai, are you serious about dating me?"

He met her gaze directly, searching for any hint of teasing.

"Of course not~" Akeno responded with a sweet smile. "Even if I were to date someone, you'd have to be the one to confess. What kind of girl chases after a guy?"

"Aww, what a shame."

Seeing the genuine disappointment on Akira's face, Akeno suddenly felt a tiny pang of regret. Maybe she'd turned him down a little too quickly.

But after thinking it through again… no, rejecting him had been the right choice.

If she had agreed on the spot, what would that have made her? Besides, if Akira ever learned the truth about who—or rather, what—she really was, would he still feel the same?

The thought made her expression cloud slightly.

The blood running through her veins… was her greatest curse.

"Oh right, Shin-kun. The novel you're writing—what genre is it?"

"School life," Akira answered without pause.

"School life? So… a romance story?"

"Of course it is," he replied casually.

The love story between the Master of Loneliness and the Ice Queen—in his mind, that was the pinnacle of romance.

"What's the title?" Akeno asked curiously.

Akira answered without hesitation, "Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru."

"My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, huh…"

Akeno tilted her head slightly. She had never read a light novel before, so she had no idea whether the title was clever or just plain weird.

But a name like My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU did sound… off. Though she couldn't quite explain why.

Their conversation didn't last much longer, since classes were about to start. Akeno soon took her leave, and Akira returned to his classroom.

As soon as he stepped inside, dozens of eyes turned his way.

Friendly with Himejima Akeno? Joking with her like that?

Their relationship clearly wasn't normal. Whispers began spreading like wildfire across the room.

Many quietly speculated—they had to be dating, right?

But despite the growing buzz, no one dared approach Akira.

He'd been in this class for a while now. And aside from Hanakai Momo, he hadn't really talked to anyone. Those who had tried to get close… eventually gave up.

Because from the very start, Akira never intended to build relationships here. To him, these people were just background characters—extras with no role in his future.

Among them, Momo sat silently, watching him with a heart full of unease.

It was obvious now—Akira was far closer to Akeno than he was to her. He'd even saved Koneko once before.

All of this pointed to one truth: Akira was clearly aligned with Rias Gremory's camp.

And yet… Momo had come here on a mission from Sona. Her goal was to recruit Akira. But so far, her efforts had been a complete failure. If her superior found out, she'd be branded incompetent for sure.

Soon after, the bell rang. The chime echoed through the school building, signaling the official start of class.

Yet, not a single teacher—or even the homeroom instructor—said a word to Akira about skipping the morning.

It was as if his absence had never happened.

Naturally, this confused the other students.

Kuoh Academy, after all, was a prestigious private school with strict rules. Attendance and grades were taken very seriously. Unexcused absences usually earned you an official warning—or worse, disciplinary action if it happened more than once.

But of course… exceptions always existed.

The peerage members of Rias Gremory and Sona Shitori were among those exceptions. After all, this school was technically owned by their families.

Still, both factions did their best to avoid standing out too much.

Especially Sona. As the student council president, she ran a tight ship and held her subordinates to high standards.

"Senpai~"

Later that afternoon, just after the final bell rang with a gentle tone across the building, someone called out to Akira as he stepped out of class.

A petite figure with silver hair and a feline aura stood before him—Koneko Toujou.

"Koneko-chan? Wow, it's been a while," Akira greeted with a small smile.

"Good afternoon, Akira-senpai," she replied softly.

"This is the second floor, you know. What brings you up here?"

"I came to find you, Senpai."

"Find me? What for?"

"Your novel has already been submitted to the publisher by Buchou. Also, Akeno-senpai said since your phone was lost… she bought you a new one. Here."

Koneko reached into her school bag and handed him a small box with a brand-new smartphone and SIM card inside.

"Whoa, that's a huge help. Thanks a lot."

Without hesitation, Akira accepted the phone and SIM card.

Honestly… deep down, he felt a little like a man living off the kindness of women.

But strangely, that feeling didn't bother him at all.

All his needs were being taken care of. He'd originally planned to buy a phone once he received his first royalty check. But now, everything had been handed to him on a silver platter.

"Koneko-chan, please thank Akeno-senpai and Rias-senpai for me."

"I will."

With that, Koneko gave a small bow and turned to leave.

Though a part of her wanted to get closer to Akira… the memory of him slaughtering that Stray Devil was still fresh in her mind.

Akeno was known for being sadistic in battle—electrocuting her opponents or going for critical points—but even that stayed within a certain limit.

Shin Akira? He tortured his enemies.

He tore them apart slowly. One drop of blood at a time, until it pooled into a lake.

The most terrifying part? That gentle smile on his face as he crushed the Stray Devil's skull with his bare hands.

A smile so soft… paired with a massacre so brutal—it was nightmare fuel.

To Koneko, Akira wasn't human. He was a monster. A madman. Unpredictable and terrifying.

But Akira himself didn't seem to mind the change in her attitude.

For a man like him… sure, lolis were cute—but his real preference? Definitely the mature and voluptuous type.
