Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2 – THE OTHER SIDE

The volunteers were all tied by a rope to the waist in case any unexpected turn of events occurred. They walked side by side as they stepped through the water screen. The moment they did so, they could see the world around them change, and before them were what seemed to be the ruins of an ancient fallen civilization. The volunteers witnessing this were shocked to the core because the city before them looked exactly like theirs, but there were no signs of life. The people also seeing this were shocked because footage from the body cams of the volunteers projected on the large screen showed what to be the ruins of a renowned city after a catastrophic event.

The volunteers were asked to spread out and cover more ground to investigate more about the world they just entered. The volunteers spread out in groups of two and found remnants of what seemed to be unidentified creatures. The moment they were getting closer to the creatures, the gamma radiation detectors on the suits started beeping. The scientist read this from the computers, and the radiation readings reached 7.87 megaelectronvolts (MeV). The scientist sent an urgent message secretly to the higher-ups, but the response was that they should only tell the volunteers to quickly move away from the hotspot. The moment they instructed the volunteers to back away, all the body cams on the volunteers went completely dark.

This raised suspicions among the people watching across the globe; the tranquil water screen on the halo started to have some ripples and disturbance on its surface. The scientists observing the energy levels of the portals all started to run from the event because the gamma radiation around the portal was steadily climbing, and from the magical stones and relics they obtained, they knew something was trying to get into their world.

A strong electromagnetic pulse was emitted from the portal, and it covered the entire planet. Every city and its power grid and plants were completely disrupted and shut off. The people witnessing this from their various homes on their smartphones and devices thought it was a regular power outage. Another EMP came from the portal again, but this time all the electronic gadgets were shut down; no gadget was spared. The people present on site started panicking because they all instinctively felt that a higher being on top of the food chain was about to cross over to their world. They all started running in fear. Prof. Emerik told his team to forcibly pull out the volunteers by the cords, and the machines responsible for that job weren't mechanical, so they were affected by the EMP.

The barrel started rolling, and instantly sixty of the ropes were pulled without a body attached to them. The only thing they saw was that the metallic ropes were cleanly cut and there were small traces of blood at the severed end. When the people present saw this, they all clearly understood what had happened on the other side, so they started fleeing the scene to find a safer spot to hide.

The remaining forty volunteers were pulled out, but amongst them, only two survived and seemed to be frightened out of their wits. The government and scientists took the remaining survivors to a room for interrogations; the two survivors were just a white-skinned man and a dark-skinned woman. They were investigated in different rooms, but from their confessions, the military and scientists realized that the two seemed to narrate the same thing, and what shocked them was that the survivors could vividly tell what was going on around them because what they told the investigators seemed to defy all logic and even the magical scrolls they found.

From the confessions of both survivors, the moment they were told to split up in groups of two, the ground on which they stood shook violently, and a huge red worm-like creature erupted out of the ground, and its towering size from the ground to the sky from the helmet was measured in the hundreds of meters, with an estimated size of 600-650 m. And on the huge worm, there were dark green goblins who were all in possession of what seemed to be a weapon shaped in the form of an axe.

They hid themselves behind some ruins, but their companions all ran in different directions out of fear, which made the goblins chase and massacre them all. After killing their companions, the two survivors quietly crawled to the water screen of the portal, waiting to be pulled out. They covered themselves in the scraps of metals and plastics, which made them look ordinary in the eyes of the goblins, and that was how they were able to escape that terror.

During the interrogations, they asked if the goblins got near the water screen, and the survivors all responded by saying, "The goblins seemed to be afraid of getting within a hundred meters of the water screen because when they entered and looked at the water screen, all they could see was a water curtain with countless engravings on its surface, which they believed stopped the goblins from passing through."

The scientists detained the remaining survivors and told the investigators and military to keep them away from the outside world, especially their families and the media, so as not to spark any controversies in the world that could break the very fundamentals of society's belief system. Prof. Emerik and the other scientists and magicians pulled the video from the body cam of the survivors, and what they saw in the footage confirmed everything the survivors said, and they even discovered something more.

In the footage they could see that in a two hundred meter distance from the red worm and goblins, a humanoid figure dressed in silver armor held what seemed to be a crystal ball, and it seemed to be the main course of the EMP from the portal earlier on and it walked to the portal and hesitantly turned back.

These findings greatly shocked them because, from the actions of this being, it seemed to have a higher level of intelligence as compared to humans. During all this, a young lady hidden in one of the cabinets observed and recorded all this without the scientists knowing anything. This lady was a sixteen-year-old girl who was an intern at the company, and she went by the name Elisa.
