Chapter 9 - 9. Fear curse

Hermione's mouth was wide open, her face full of disbelief. She remembered that during yesterday's Transfiguration class, Ivan couldn't even stabilize the Transformation spell. How could he have become so powerful today?

After completing the transformation, Ivan didn't linger. He left Hermione standing there in a daze and returned to the Gryffindor common room alone.

Ivan, holding a book, bumped into Harry and Ron, who were playing Wizard's Chess, on his way back to the dormitory. The two of them looked as if they had seen a ghost.

Ron looked at the book in Ivan's hand, "A Detailed Explanation of Basic Spell Principles," his eyes almost popping out. The knight in his right hand fell onto the table with a thud.

The armor on the knight, who had fallen from high above, was shattered. Cursing, he raised a toothpick-sized greatsword and slashed it fiercely at Ron's left fingernail.

"Ow, that hurts!" Ron's left hand trembled violently, sending the knight flying to the side. Then, looking at his cracked fingernail, he angrily picked up the cup and smashed the knight to pieces, throwing them all into the box to wait for automatic repair.

Afterward, Ron covered his thumb and said to Harry with a worried expression.

"Harry, do you think Ivan will become like Hermione in the future?"

"That shouldn't happen, right?" Harry was also a little unsure.

The two couldn't help but shudder at the thought of two Hermiones lecturing them.

Back in the dormitory, Ivan didn't know that Harry and Ron were discussing him in the common room.

At this moment, Ivan's attention had already shifted to the changes in the various values in the system.

The improvement from just one hour of the academic genius experience card was considerable. The spells Ivan knew had basically been raised to Level 1.

Fortunately, the others in the dormitory were not around, so Ivan used boxes, stools, pillows, and the like to test the power of the Levitation Charm and the Disarming Charm.

"Wingardium Leviosa~"

"Expelliarmus~"

After a few minutes of self-amusement, Ivan looked at the pillow that had been blasted from the head of the bed to the foot of the bed by the Disarming Charm, as well as the boxes and stools floating in the air and slowly falling down. His heart was full of accomplishment.

This is the power of magic!

Few people can resist the temptation of this mysterious and unpredictable supernatural ability, especially since Ivan, lying in bed before his death from a serious illness in his previous life, loved to read various magic and fantasy books.

It was just a pity that in the few days after Ivan crossed over, due to various limitations, he had not even successfully cast the most basic spells. Now that he had cast several spells at once, Ivan was naturally excited.

Now, no matter what Ivan saw, he wanted to cast a Transfiguration Spell and a Levitation Charm on it.

After experimenting for a dozen minutes, Ivan's brain was already a little dizzy. This was clearly a sign of magic power overdraft.

In the process of frequently casting spells, Ivan also roughly understood his ability limit.

First of all, the Levitation Charm. Ivan could at most suspend an empty box in the air one meter high for nearly forty seconds, or levitate his bed for five seconds, but the height of the levitation was only about thirty centimeters.

Secondly, the Transfiguration Spell can change the shape and even the nature of an object into another object for a period of time.

This was also the spell that Ivan was most interested in. With deep practice, he could even turn inanimate objects into living animals like Professor McGonagall.

He just didn't know if this Transfiguration Spell could be used on wizards. For example, in battle, could he cast a Transfiguration Spell and turn the enemy into a tree, a brick, a pig, a cow, or a sheep?

Or, he could turn the obstacles in front of and behind the opposing wizard into beasts or traps, which could also have the effect of defeating the enemy with one blow.

However, Ivan frowned when he thought of this, because he realized that in the original book, it seemed that very few people would do this.

Even Professor McGonagall, who was proficient in the Transfiguration Spell, did not use the Transfiguration Spell on opposing wizards during the final battle.

Was it because ordinary Transfiguration Spells could not be used on living things? But the Transfiguration Spell was powerful enough to transform non-living things into living things, so there was no reason why the process couldn't be reversed.

Hagrid also used a spell to make Dudley, the fat boy who bullied Harry, grow a pig's tail, and Draco also had a dark history of being transformed into a ferret, indicating that the Transfiguration Spell could be directly applied to the human body.

Was it because of the influence of magic power? Did wizards have a certain resistance to the Transfiguration Spell? The stronger the wizard, the more resistance they had?

What exactly is magic power? Why can wizards use all kinds of incredible magic?

Ivan thought of the Animagus transformation, which was the only thing that could affect powerful wizards. Even such a powerful and difficult-to-learn magic could only transform wizards into specific animals, and could not achieve the desired form at will.

This was more like a solidified Transfiguration Spell, allowing wizards to switch back and forth between two forms without flaws or time limits.

"Forget it, what am I thinking about this for now?" Ivan stroked his forehead. He was just a first-year wizard, and his spells were only at the level of being able to cast them.

Thinking so much is useless.

After experimenting with the Levitation Charm, Transfiguration Spell, Lumos Charm, and Disarming Charm, Ivan had a rough estimate of his strength.

It was about the level of a more powerful ordinary first-year wizard.

After experimenting with the effects of ordinary spells, Ivan turned his attention to the Fear Curse, which was a dark magic.

This spell, which had appeared in the system after he crossed over to Hogwarts, had never been used by Ivan before.

"Fear Descends!" Ivan recalled the order of casting the spell in his memory and pointed his wand at Marga's head.

"Coo~" A dim purple light flashed, and Marga tilted her head, looking at Ivan innocently.

"It didn't work?" Ivan looked at Marga, who didn't react at all, and couldn't help but feel a little strange.

"Fear Descends~ Fear Descends~"

Ivan cast spells in succession, and the purple light directly enveloped Marga, but Marga thought Ivan was playing with her, so she used her hooked beak to pull on the tip of the wand.

Ivan helplessly retracted the wand, or it would have been gnawed off by Marga. Then, he looked at the Fear Curse in the system's magic column and felt depressed.

Logically speaking, he should be able to cast it normally after the spell reached Level 1.

Or is it...

Ivan suddenly remembered the memories that flooded into his mind when the Sorting Hat invaded his brain.

"Fear..." Ivan closed his eyes and thought for a while. When he opened his eyes again, he happened to see a gray-black mouse dozing off on Ron's table. After a little thought, Ivan let go of Marga, the owl that was his messenger, and instead grabbed his wand and walked over.

Scabbers was sleeping soundly at the moment, with crumbs of Every Flavor Beans still on his mouth. His small paws were divided into four fingers, and he occasionally scratched on the table unconsciously, as if he was having a sweet dream.
