Chapter 11 - Distraction

ISLA

I didn't know if Robert was playing games with me or if I just thought it in my head that I had a hold on him. First, he didn't send me his fucking schedule as he promised. This meant I had to keep my messed up head guessing where he was all the time. Also, he didn't come home last night. He hasn't summoned me to his office or called the intercom to give me orders, like the damn boss he was. I was starting to feel like my patience had become a thin thread that I was hopelessly hanging on.

In my dilemma, a knock came on the door. I rolled my eyes, fully expecting to see Mia's smug face appear. "Come in!" I shouted grittingly, my voice filled with annoyance.

Instead of Mia, a blonde guy with a charming smile walked in. He was in a well tailored crisp black suit. He looked like he just walked out of a movie set, where he had been the male lead of a classic romance movie. He looked hot, well… Not like he was anywhere close to Robert Or maybe, I couldn't care less.

"Hi, I'm Stiles," he said, extending his hand. Ms. Turner? If I'm correct?" He had an inviting smile, one that showed a perfect dentition, the sort of smile that you couldn't help but enthusiastically return.

"Hi Stiles," I replied, returning his smile. "I'm Isla."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Isla," he said, his eyes lingering on mine a little longer than necessary. "Mr Hardy has asked me to collect the quarterly report".

I was taken aback. Oh, wow! Nice! Robert was in touch with everyone else in the company. Everyone except me, great!

I balled my fist tightly, my eyes narrowing. I would deal with him. If he thought he was a pro at this silly hide and seek game, he was sure messing with the wrong seeker.

"Ms. Turner…?" Stiles called softly, pulling me back to reality. An idea suddenly crept into my head. A reckless idea, one that I would pursue regardless.

"Umm… sure." I grinned sheepishly. I searched through the documents Mia had got me killing my back on and handed it over to him.

As Stiles reached out to take the file from my hands, I couldn't help but notice the way his eyes lingered on me. It was subtle, but there was something undeniably intoxicating about him. He had that rugged charm that was very hard to ignore, and a smile that could make any girl's heart skip a beat.

I gave him the file, but I didn't let go of it right away. My fingers brushed his deliberately, letting the touch linger just a moment too long.

"Here you go," I said, my voice low and teasing. I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks, but I hid it behind a confident smile. "I see you've been given the pleasure of dealing with the quarterly reports."

He raised an eyebrow at me, an amused glint in his eyes. "I wouldn't say pleasure," he chuckled, shaking the file lightly in his hands. "More like a necessary duty, right?"

I smirked. "Well, I suppose you could call it that. To be honest, I'm only here because my dad thinks I'd be able to hold his company down, But it's obvious you're the type made for this sort of things? I mean, someone like you would probably enjoy this sort of work. Look at me, I look dead"

I was rambling. I just needed to hold a conversation and I wasn't sure what to say, it wasn't like I had any cards to play.

He laughed, a deep sound that made me feel a little flutter in my stomach. "I do like my job, actually. As a project manager, I love bringing dreams to reality. But I think I'd also prefer acting."

I chuckled. Didn't I say he looked like a male lead?

"That would be interesting. I can imagine you in a love triangle romance movie, with the female lead and a sexy ass antagonist entangled in a messy love affair."

He laughed so cheerfully that his eyes moistened.

"You really think I'd get a chance to play male lead?"

 "Why not?" I shrugged.

For a moment he sat there staring at me with a dreamy smile.

"Do you mind if I take you out for dinner?"

That was out of the blue and amazing! Now I've got a damned good card. I couldn't wait to see Robert's reaction when he finds out I was going out with his project manager.

"Have you been to the rooftop bar at the Hudson Hotel? I heard the view is breathtaking."

Was he desperately asking me to go out with him?

"I heard it's an incredible five star bar, I've never been there."

 "8PM?"

 I nodded a yes.

 "Where can I pick you?"

"I'd text you my location." I replied with a coy smile. There was no way I was going to ask him to come pick me up at the mansion. Even if I'd love the impression it was going to give.

And that was it, I've gotten my little distraction, a charming distraction at that.
