Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Overriding the Cavalry and the Iron Curtain

Impostor, Barefoot Doctor, Hyena, Deceiver.

Suya looked at these four seemingly unconventional external pathways that belonged to him and couldn't help but feel a little toothache.

What he needed more right now were abilities that could tangibly increase his combat power, as that would significantly boost his survival chances on the battlefield.

But clearly, not being a New Game+ player, he couldn't control these randomly triggered abilities.

Under the current combination of abilities,

Aside from the Impostor path, whose nature was unclear, could the remaining three form a sensible combat style?

If he could apply the Barefoot Doctor's characteristic of high-probability accidental severe injury during external wound treatment to combat, combined with the enhanced reaction speed from Scrutiny and Deceiver, and the boosted strength from Hyena,

Could it achieve an effect of 1+1+1+1 > 4?

Suya couldn't help but ponder this question.

But this led to another issue.

Healing and combat were two opposing forms.

If the enemy was already wounded, Suya striking them with a knife would likely not count as treatment, nor would it trigger the Barefoot Doctor's severe injury effect, as this would still fall within the realm of combat.

Perhaps only in situations like Hua Tuo operating on Guan Yu's bone to remove poison would wielding a knife count as treatment?

But what kind of bizarre scene would that be?

"I'm going to violently strike your humerus!"

Setting aside the absurd imagery,

How, then, could he poison someone?

Thinking of this, Suya slowly shifted his gaze to the magical sword hanging at his waist.

[Poison of Nameless Envy.]

"My King, we're almost there!"

However, just then, a clear voice suddenly rang in his ear.

His chaotic thoughts rapidly converged. Suya looked up.

After leaving the trench discovered by the Macedonian scout cavalry, Merlin had ridden the horse down a hill away from the Conqueror King's army, and then galloped up another hill.

However, this place was not further away from the battlefield;

On the contrary, it was closer!

They were advancing on a path that was practically a direct charge towards the center of the Macedonian phalanx!

At this moment,

Merlin pulled back on the reins, bringing the warhorse to a halt at the top of the hill.

From this vantage point, looking down,

With a height difference of no more than 30 meters and a straight-line distance of several kilometers,

One side had only two solitary figures,

While the other side was densely packed with people!

In the farthest distance was the core of the Macedonian phalanx, a legion formed of 16 ranks, both horizontally and vertically. Heavily armored soldiers wielded exaggerated 4-5 meter long pikes, advancing like an iron tide with a thunderous roar.

Closer to Suya's side was an entire light infantry regiment charging forward, armed with short spears and shields, composed of 3 chiliarchies. These three units were arranged in a long line, and the right flank, which should have been protecting the phalanx, was now somewhat detached from the main heavy infantry.

Even closer, Macedonian scout cavalry were galloping back and forth, constantly relaying information to the central army and the giant war chariot displaying the royal banner, before riding off to scout other directions.

Most of the scout riders were rejoining the main army, advancing with the troops, and their reconnaissance efforts in the surrounding area had significantly decreased, or rather, were in the final stages. Meanwhile, the Companion Cavalry, originally responsible for guarding the phalanx's flank, had already charged into the combat zone, following the vanguard Seleucus, and were now slaughtering their way through.

The light and heavy infantry and cavalry of this army had become separated due to the allure of a great victory, thus creating a fleeting tactical opportunity.

The good news was that if a force of elite shock troops were ambushed at Suya's current location,

And attacked now, after the legion lost its flanking protection, they might achieve a decisive victory.

The bad news was,

Suya's side had only two people...

"My King—"

Seeing this scene, Suya's expression almost cracked.

He felt cold sweat trickling down his back and immediately interrupted Merlin without hesitation,

"We are already comrades who have entrusted our backs to each other!"

"No need for formalities, just call me by my name, Suya."

Calling me "My King" in front of the enemy,

Sister, are you afraid I won't die fast enough?

"As you wish."

"Then, Merlin, what do you think?"

Suya resisted the urge to immediately turn and run, gazing in a daze at the charging army before him, then couldn't help but lower his head, looking at the docile girl in front of him with a mixture of terror and suspicion.

The current situation was like driving through a treacherous intersection designed by BeamNG-TV (Realistic crash simulation.).

He had assumed Merlin, being a local with a local car, would know the roads better and could easily execute a flanking maneuver to escape.

But now, what was this situation?

Why are you leading me right to the enemy?!

No, sister, aren't you a local?

"My King... Suya, I will explain the situation now, please listen carefully—"

"Alright!"

Suya was currently in a state where his eyes had rolled back, and his mind was blank.

He knew nothing.

He didn't know where he came from, where he was going, or what the future held. He also had no idea how to escape danger on this battlefield.

But Suya knew,

He wanted to live!

He was currently in an otherworldly realm with supernatural abilities!

What he would experience would be days liberated from a mundane routine, where the end of his life was no longer visible at a glance.

That belonged to the fantasy epic of sword and magic,

To the ode of warriors and battlefields—

He truly wanted to experience it!

So his optimal solution right now was simply to trust, to trust this Floral Magician who dared to try and shackle a king on a chaotic battlefield, to trust that she had the ability to lead him to freedom!

"We are at the last stronghold before the capital, the southern flank of the Cornish Golden Iron Curtain, a plain at the border of hills!"

"The Conqueror King's army has already breached the fortresses of Plymouth and Exeter and is advancing towards the Golden Iron Curtain!"

"And there is only one way to retreat to the capital—"

"That is to reach the Golden Iron Curtain before the Conqueror King's iron hooves crush everything."

"But now, Seleucus's army has sealed this path and is continuously crushing our scattered forces to the south."

"We cannot immediately retreat to the capital of Winchester."

Suya nodded gravely. Although he had no idea what these place names and terms Merlin was spouting meant, he was still profoundly impressed without understanding.

"So?"

Merlin took a deep breath, raised her hand,

And pointed towards the Conqueror King's massive army rumbling forward before Suya, a sight that suffocated him with just a glance!

She spoke with a grave expression:

"We can only break through to the enemy's rear, which is the direction we came from!"

"We must overcome that cavalry and iron curtain!"

"And return to the manor!"
