Cherreads

Chapter 27 - 27

He had told her the night of their engagement party that he would hurt anyone who stood in the way of him having her. Her new husband didn't care that it was selfish to do something like that. He just wanted her. He let go of her wrist and began climbing a small boulder. A big wall of small boulders lay on the beach.

Rome looked back down at her and beckoned for her to come.

"Come on." He yelled.

She swallowed her fear of heights and climbed the wall. Once she was at the top, her breath was taken away when she saw the beautiful oasis that awaited them on the other side. Bunny had never seen a place so lovely and untouched. She was slightly out of breath from the climb. She inhaled deeply.

The freshness of the palm trees mingled with the waterfall made her feel alive. She was truly amazed at the tropical beauty surrounding her. It would seem nothing could keep Bunny from comparing her life to now and the last 72 hours. She had never thought she would be married or staying on a private island. She watched as Rome peeled off the tight white tank top he wore to expose his tanned, muscular chest and hard rock abs.

Bunny tried to look away before her new husband caught her staring, but it was no use. Their eyes met. She felt drawn to him.

" Are you getting in?" He asked her, referring to the water.

His question snapped her out of her daydream. She saw no harm in getting in the water. She removed her denim shorts and sneakers. She was only wearing the black one-piece bathing suit he had picked out for her. She walked to the water's edge and dove in.

The water felt more than refreshing to her. She felt abouyant so much so, that she floated on her back. For a split second, she forgot about it all. Bunny closed her eyes. She laid out a gentle sigh. She felt like she could float forever. Suddenly, she felt strong hands capture her face and kiss her gently. She had been taken aback by the intimate gesture. She stayed afloat as her lips locked with Rome's. The kiss was gentle at first, almost innocent.

Slowly it turned into a simmering, passionate kiss.

The kiss was gentle at first, almost innocent. Slowly, it turned into a simmering, passionate kiss. As soon as it did, Bunny broke it by going underwater and swimming away from him. She popped up on the surface facing him. This time, she was only inches away. They swam in shallow end of the crystal clear water. Bunny's toes almost didn't touch. The water went mid-chest for Rome.

"Why do you insist on pulling away from my touch? What could you possibly see in someone like Baxter over me? Tell me!" He barked.Bunny didn't know what to say. He was being stubborn again, and not able to see why she was frightened by him. "We just met." She furnished.

It wasn't a lie. It also was more polite to say that than what she originally wanted to say, which was that from the time she had met him at Baxter's party, he was acting like a stubborn caveman, son of a bitch. It wouldn't matter. He didn't seem to care.

She took a deep breath and looked away, "You say what you want about my life, but I have been handling this all on my own. Since my father's arrest, I have seen and done things I'm not proud of, but it put food on the table and paid for my sisters' school tuition. Baxter and I met at a bar. I'm sure you already know this story, seeing you guys set me up,and all."

Rome had actually found out about Baxter utilizing Bunny's services when he told him his plan and what it had been missing to work. Baxter had been more than happy to tell him about Bunny and what arrangement they had made. At first, Rome couldn't believe it. Bunny had been such a stuck-up snob in school. Back then she had a fat bank account and high standards.

She had only dated the best of the best. Rome was just a pimply four-eyed nerd. Rome knew had she not been so down on her luck, she wouldn't have even looked in Baxter's direction. Thinking about the explicit details Baxter had given him about their sexual encounters still made him jealous. The way Baxter hovered around her made him want to punch him over and over again.

Wasn't Rome the one who married her? And yet that bastard couldn't stay away.

"No. Please tell me how you met him. I am all ears." He rolled his eyes, which in turn made Bunny roll her own.

"As I was saying, I met him at an upscale bar. I was familiar with the type of clientele that frequented the establishment. I wasn't looking for him. I had actually just finished meeting someone. He approached me. He called me by my full name and asked if I remembered him from school. Of course I did. Baxter hasn't changed that much. He is still... Er..."

"A fat, sloppy dressed idiot?" He furnished.

Bunny's eyes widened at the mean, yet accurate description of Baxter.

"I wasn't going to say that." She corrected.

"But I did. So don't worry." He quipped.

She went silent for a few seconds, then she spoke once more. "So if you think those things about him, why are you so intimidated by him?"

"Let's get one thing straight, Princess. I am and have never been intimidated by a greasy f*ck like Baxter. I am a real man. I don't have to pay for anyone's time. Regardless of how we met, you are now my wife. Anyone else would have beat him to a bloody pulp for hovering around you the way he does. You think his boat just magically got stranded on the Island we are having our honeymoon on? I won't think you are an idiot if you don't act like one..."
