Chapter 61 - Chapter 61: Echoes of the Sovereign Code

In the wake of the Eighth Flame's awakening, the spirit threads across realms throbbed with instability. Leylines misaligned. Sacred sites pulsed without prayer. Realities that once lay dormant began to stir—as if Rei's ascent had shaken the very bones of the world.

Far away from Kyoto, in a dimension sealed by both Grigori and Heaven, a circular citadel floated above an ocean of stars. The Seal Bastion.

Here, within chambers of platinum glass and kinetic code, the EXE Directive convened—not as men, but as constructs of enforcement, bound by law, unburdened by soul.

At the center stood their Executor: a faceless entity cloaked in threads of memory, known only as Sovereign Alpha.

"We have confirmation," Alpha stated. "Subject: Kazenari Rei has breached Layer 8. Flame Protocols are obsolete. Initiate Directive: Contingency Sovereign."

Around the room, eleven projections flickered to life—each a voice of old creation.

One asked, "Will the Seraphim interfere?"

Alpha answered, "The Seraphim wait. But we do not. Prepare the Sovereign Code."

---

Back on Earth, Rei knelt at the center of a ruined grove just beyond Kyoto. His skin still bore heat lines from the flame merge, but his breathing was steady. Around him, the earth had crystallized into obsidian-glass, etched in runes that shifted with each breath he took.

Eirenne was the first to approach. "You're burning. Even when still."

Rei smirked faintly. "Then I'll warm the world."

Noira rolled her eyes. "That was cheesy, and you know it."

Mireille remained silent, her attention fixed on the newly formed constellation above. "They're watching now. Not just angels or devils. The veil is thinner. The Sovereigns have noticed."

Karasu hissed. "Prepare yourself. You've touched what was not meant to be touched. They'll come not with questions, but codes of finality."

Elsewhere — Grigori Base Sigma

Azazel stared at the readings. The resonance graphs had spiked so high they pierced dimensional logic. The data had become self-referential, looping endlessly.

"Sheesh," he muttered, lighting a cigarette. "You really had to be that guy, didn't you, Rei?"

Behind him, Shemhazai frowned. "Should we intervene?"

"No," Azazel replied. "But we should start choosing sides. Fast."

The Sovereign Code — Deployment Begins

In the dimension of chains and protocols, Sovereign Alpha walked into a chamber of dormant titans. Each one stood thirty meters tall, humanoid yet devoid of eyes, armed not with blades, but with absolutes: one held Judgment, one bore Silence, one carried Memory.

Alpha raised a hand.

> [Sovereign Code Activated. Deploy Unit Icarion. Initiate First Contact Protocol with Subject Kazenari Rei. Set Mode: Pacify or Erase.]

The ground cracked as Icarion, the Sovereign of Bound Flame, opened its chest.

A burning sigil within it pulsed—eerily familiar to Rei's own.

Rei's Temporary Refuge — Shrine of the North Wind

As night fell, the shrine offered a rare moment of peace. Rei sat beneath a weathered pine tree, Eirenne resting beside him, Noira sharpening her blade nearby, and Mireille studying spectral maps.

"We've unlocked something no spirit system ever mapped," Mireille said. "These constellations—these are markers from before even Velstra's time. The Silver Court knew of them."

Rei nodded. "Then we'll need to ask the ones who remember."

He reached into his pouch and withdrew a feather-shaped key.

> [System Notification: Realm Access Unlocked — Memory Palace of the Sovereigns. Optional Visit Recommended. Risk Level: Absolute.]

Karasu growled. "We should gather strength first. You've just become a flame of consequence. The Sovereigns will test you—not just with power, but with history."

Rei stood, brushing ash from his cloak.

"I know. But we can't wait. The moment I lit the Eighth Flame, we stopped being players."

He turned to the stars.

"We became the endgame."

Far across the sky, Icarion stirred.

And the world prepared for its reckoning.
