(In the year 2024, a boy christaned Chris was born. Chris grew up rapidly and with a tall and slightly robust stature with a handsome face.)
Daddy! Daddy!! Daddy!!! Chris screamed as he ran through the door which had been left open absent-mindedly by his mom.
What is it? a booming voice which came from a man apparently Chris' father and asked.
I am now the head prefect of my school. Chris replied.
His mother who was cooking vegetables in the kitchen overheard the news and came to share in the joy.
I know my son would always be the head. His mother jabbered. Don't worry, his mother replied, I am already making vegetable soup and I will make sure that we pound yam tonight to celebrate your success.
Okay mummy. Chris replied as he went into his room.
Later that same night after eating, Chris Parents called him aside and told him that they were going to do anything for him but on one condition.
What's the condition? Chris asked.
The condition is that you pass your entrance examination into secondary school. His mother replied.
Ok sir and ma, I will do everything to make you proud. Replied Chris.
Amazed by these promises, Chris was determined to pass, so as for him to enjoy the promises his parents made to him.
Chris burnt the midnight oil for him to pass the examination, he burnt the candle at both ends so as to claim his father's reward.
After all preparations, the day came and Chris went to the examination centre and headed his best and left the rest to God for preparation.
Chris prayed eagerly every time for his results to be good.
A month later, the results came out and to Chris' and his parent's surprise, Chris did pass alone, he also had the best result in the state and the second best in the country. His father and mother could not help but google at his results.
(THE SECOND DAY)
Daddy! Mummy! Hope you did not forget your promise to me. Chris said with bulging eyes. Yes! His parents replied simultaneously. Contrary to Mr Sola Chris' father promise, he bought Chris an Android phone and a high grade blue yosemith bicycle. Thank your Sir! Thank you ma! Chris thanked his parent many times. Let me go and tell my friend what you have bought for me. Chris said. Okay, replied his mother. Segun! Segun!! Segun!!! Chris shouted as he ran bare-footed to Segun's house, which was just about 8 metres from his. What is it? Sequn replied as he came out clothed in blue knickers and a blue face cap with a white T-shirt. My parents just bought me a phone and a bicycle. Chris said happily mobile What brand of phone is it. Segun asked happily. It is a Tecno phantom X. replied Chris What! A Tecno phantom X, that's a nice brand of phone, let's go and see it. Segun replied Segun and Chris ran to Chris' house to see the new Chris' gifts, when they got home, they began to ride the bicycle and using the phone. Chris! Chris!! Chris!!! Segun screamed Chris' name, What's the problem? Chris asked. Do you know that we can generate money from this bicycle? Segun asked How? Chris asked eagerly We can rent out this bicycle for a fixed space of time to children who cared to rent. Segun said. Wow! Wow! You've got a good brain in that skull of yours. Chris said One thousand! One thousand five hundred!!! ...Five thousand seven hundred naira. Chris shouted and said "This is real money". Now I suggest that we go to Mrs. Coker's Lunch cafeteria and enjoy a sumptuous meal to our liking. Segun suggested. Yes, I agree. Chris replied. Mrs. Coker Lunch cafeteria was a brick building and a big inscription on the topmost part of the cafeteria in which the name of the cafeteria was written which is "Coker's Cafeteria". Immediately they got in, they were welcomed by aromas of different foods coming from different cooking directions. The cafeteria was a fairly large one, painted in Iceland blue and concrete-floored. What should we eat? Chris said staring at a man drinking beer and the small ceiling fan whirring at a top speed simultaneously. Let us eat pounded yam and melon soup and wash it down with a bottle of soft drink. Segun suggested as they went to the ordering counter. Give us pounded yam. Chris said. How many? The attendant asked staring at the little boys before her. Six, Chris replied, with melon soup and two bottles of coke. Sagun added. Twenty minutes later, they were through with their food and paid the money and they both went to their respective homes with extra-filled stomachs.
