The nightmare gripped me again, visions of hooded figures chanting as they circled around my small body. I could feel the cold stone beneath my back, see the glint of silver daggers raised overhead. The smell of incense burned my nostrils as I struggled against invisible bonds.
"No! Please!" I screamed, thrashing against my sheets as the final moment approached—that terrible instant when they'd severed my connection to my wolf.
I bolted upright in bed, a scream dying in my throat. My heart pounded so hard I thought my ribs might crack. Sweat plastered my rose-gold hair to my forehead as I gasped for breath in the darkness.
The bedroom door flew open, and Finnian rushed in, eyes glowing amber in the darkness. "Luna Seraphina!"
His tall frame silhouetted in the doorway, muscles tensed for battle. After a quick scan of the room revealed no threats, his posture relaxed slightly.
"Another nightmare?" he asked, his voice gentler now.
