Chapter 14 - Starting The Grind [7.]

> [Perfect Extraction Triggered]

'Finally.'

Elias let out a slow breath, eyes narrowing as he stretched out his hand. He had spent the last few minutes extracting timberwood, trying to get the most out of it, but all he kept getting was a back-and-forth between basic and advanced extractions. It was starting to leave a bitter taste in his mouth. Now, at last—perfect extraction.

"Let's see what you've got," he muttered.

The familiar swirling vortex appeared in his palm, spinning silently with a faint crimson glow. The Timberwood Tree shimmered in front of him for a second—then vanished without a sound, completely consumed.

> [ Extraction Complete]

You have received:

Wood ×60

Tree Bark ×10

Sap ×5

Wood Fiber ×8

Note: All items have been added to your inventory.

Elias nodded, a small smile forming on his face. "Now that's what I'm talking about."

That was the sixth Timberwood in his territory. Only one remained, but...

> Extraction Points (EP): 1

"…Not enough to try again," Elias sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.

Still, the haul wasn't bad. He opened his inventory to check the current numbers.

---

Resources Collected:

Wood ×269

Tree Bark ×28

Sap ×14

Wood Fiber ×21

---

Elias sighed again—this time longer and heavier.

The rest of the resources didn't matter much to him. Not right now.

All he cared about for the moment was the wood.

'Still not enough though... I need 300 units of wood to finish the building project.'

If he could manage an advanced extraction on the last tree, maybe he could cover the gap—but for now, he was 1 EP short. That meant extraction would have to wait.

He turned on his heel and began walking back toward the shack. He had already decided he would build the new building just beside it.

With the location chosen and most of the materials gathered, it was time to get started.

With a simple thought, Elias summoned the blueprint from his inventory. A moment later, a soft shimmer of light floated into the air.

A translucent outline of the building appeared before him.

The design unfolded in front of him, displaying a ghost-like projection of the finished house—floorboards, walls, support beams, and even the upper level flickered gently in a glowing blue-white light.

> [Blueprint Projection: Two-Story Wooden Residence – Active]

Build Phase: FOUNDATION

Progress: 0%

Requirements:

Construction Skill – Level 1 ✅

Wood – 300 ❗ (Currently: 269)

Stone – 60 ✅

"Nice," Elias muttered.

He turned to Vael. "Shall we?"

Vael gave a short nod. "Ready whenever you are, Master."

Elias chuckled.

Then, with a flick of his wrist, he opened his inventory and summoned all the materials he'd need.

In a flash of light, dozens of items materialized in front of him.

The 269 units of wood, the 60 stone blocks he had bought from the system, coiled ropes, and two wooden tool chests—packed with mallets, chisels, measuring sticks, saws, brushes, nails, chalk… everything he had purchased earlier—all now appeared, taking up space around him.

Elias smiled as he looked at it all. The karma points he had spent for this setup now hurt a little less.

With everything laid out, Elias shifted his focus. He handed the glowing blueprint scroll over to Vael.

"Here. You'll handle the woodworking. Go over every inch of that blueprint and make sure the cuts are precise. No waste."

Vael gave a serious nod and stepped aside, the scroll hovering in front of him as he began studying the layout and measurements. His green, orb-like undead eyes scanned rapidly, adjusting the angles to get a more accurate view and better understanding of the details.

Meanwhile, Elias rolled up his sleeves and cracked his knuckles.

Time to begin.

He had already chosen the building spot—now it was time to mark it properly.

He picked up a coil of rope and a bag of pegs from the pile, then began outlining the building's footprint. With steady hands and focused movements, he marked out each corner, pulling the lines tight and making sure every edge was squared.

Each corner had to be exact. Every line had to be straight. All markings had to align properly.

Even a small mistake here could ruin the whole build later.

Once the layout was done, he grabbed a shovel and pickaxe and moved on to the next step—digging the foundation trenches.

The knowledge from the basic construction skill guided him along the way. He worked slowly but surely, digging to the right depth, matching the width to the building's structural needs, and compacting the edges as he went.

It wasn't easy, but he followed the steps like someone on a mission.

Before long, the trenches were ready.

He summoned the 60 stones he had bought earlier from the system and began placing them into the trenches, one by one. He started with the biggest stones first—these would bear the most weight.

Once that was done, he picked up a hammer and chisel and broke the remaining stones into smaller pieces. He scattered and layered them across the base, then packed them tightly with dirt.

Every stone, every layer—he placed with care. He pounded around the perimeter with a heavy mallet, making sure everything was level and firmly in place.

When he finally finished, Elias stepped back and took a deep breath as he looked over his work.

The base was ready now.

A solid foundation frame.

Perfectly aligned.

"Not bad for someone who didn't know squat about construction yesterday," he said to himself with a proud grin.

That was the power of skill scrolls. One scroll, and even someone clueless as him could become a proper builder.

He wiped sweat from his forehead and pulled out the Everflow Flask from his inventory, tilting it to take a sip.

Just one sip of the cool, clean water was enough to ease the dryness in his throat. He capped the flask and stored it back in his inventory.

Now, it was time for the next step.

The wooden frame.

He walked over to where Vael was working—tools moving quickly and smoothly, the undead man shaping timber into clean, sturdy planks.

And these weren't just random cuts.

Every board was made with focus, precision, and care. Vael took the blueprint seriously—measuring twice, cutting once. Every piece that came off his bench was exactly as it needed to be.

Elias carried the finished planks back to the build site.

Vael's role was just as important as his own. A single wrong cut or small mistake could throw the entire structure off.

Even though the blueprint called for 300 units of wood, a few miscalculations could make that number go up. Elias was relying on Vael's accuracy just as much as his own strength.

After stacking the planks neatly, Elias grabbed his tools again.

There was still a lot to do—and no time to waste.
