Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Black petals

This time, with no more obstructions, Kanum's hand formed into a motion, as if he were about to pluck a petal from a flower; he pinched the air, and he pulled back.

Suddenly the air in between Kanum's fingers wasn't empty anymore. A small black petal with unique engravings all throughout it except for a round section in the middle magically appeared in between Kanum's fingers. Additionally, the black petal slightly glowed while also emitting a black transparent fog around it like a layer of armor.

"..." Kanum quietly stared at the black petal, somewhat nervous

Kanum looked behind him, bracing himself to see his wife's unapproving stare, but when he turned, it wasn't what he imagined.

Instead of that, he only saw the back of his wife getting further and further away from him.

(Please don't destroy the house) Shelt thought internally as a migraine slowly developed

Because her back was turned, Kanum wasn't able to read her emotions for better or for worse.

(I'm sorry Shelt...) Kanum apologize with a bitter smile

After watching his wife's back for a moment, Kanum's mind finally began to gain clarity, causing him to start feeling terrible about the position he forced his wife into.

Kanum knew how much of a burden he is to take care of, and having seen the lengths Shelt goes through, just to put up with his antics, he couldn't help but think he doesn't deserve her.

"I'LL BE CAREFUL, SHELT!" Kanum shouted with conviction.

Kanum's yell was confident but also apologetic at the same time. He hoped that, after hearing this, his words could lighten Shelt's burden, even by the slightest bit.

"Hm?"

Shelt was stunned by Kanum's words; she stopped her stride without turning around. Only after a whole minute had passed did she continue on her way.

Contrary to what Kanum thought, Shelt was never truly angry at him. Of course she was slightly displeased, but she doesn't really mind it that much, and that goes for all the mischief he causes as well. Because it is this nature of his that made her fall in love with him.

Kanum was still a bit worried about Shelt, but he'd already delayed the activation of his black petal for long enough.

With determination and an unbreakable will, Kanum poured his soul into the black petal and concentrated on controlling its power.

Before fully activating the power of his black petal, it was as if a detailed render of their house had appeared within Kanum's mind. Usually, Kanum would have to go into that imaginary blueprint to utilize his power, but since he already had everything planned out, all Kanum had to do was shut his eyes and fully activated the black petal while focusing on his plan

As soon as Kanum activated it's power, the black petals just snapped out of existence like it never existed in the first place

*Swo swo swo sw-*

Flower petals the size of an adult's palm began appearing one by one all around their house. Some appeared on the walls, some levitated in midair, but all of them seemed to appear in close proximity to one another, each with varying heights and degrees that seemingly have no consistency, except for one.

The petal panels are all placed in a way where, if something were to hit and bounce off them at the right angle, it'll continue to ricochet until it reaches the last panel.

Very quickly, the epidemic of flower petals increased and spread all the way down the stairs to the living room.

As the petal panels continue to appear downstairs. It appeared that they seemed to be surrounding someone from afar. The boy, Shry, ran around the living room with his messy sky-blue hair swinging behind him, moving chairs, tables, and some knick-knacks, distracted from all that's happening around him

The living room was a mess; sofas were misplaced, tables and chairs were jumbled up together, and even some decorations like flower vases and small animal models were missing from their original places.

Even though he had just woken up, Shry was unreasonable hyper today. It was like he had been stock piling all his energy for the past week for this day.

The parade is a massive global event that only happens once a year. Every year, a couple dozen parades, with generally the same content, depending on region, will make their way around neighborhoods, districts, and cities.

No one needs to specifically go out in search of a parade, because every citizen in this world will have the parade come to them. Which is the reason why Shry had been moving furniture around.

Since watching the parade from downstairs isn't optimal, the family of three always watched the parade from Shry's bedroom. Therefore, because they can't keep the furniture like chairs and tables in Shry's bedroom all year just for this one day. It had become a tradition for them to move three chairs and table from their living room upstairs into Shry's bedroom every year, on the day of the parade.

When the last petal was created, Kanum felt a tingling sensation, telling him that his petal had completed its mission.

Smiling, Kanum concentrated on the sound of his son's footsteps, waiting for his feet to land in the perfect position.

*Pap pap PAP*

As soon as Shry's path crossed into Kanum's desired trajectory. He quickly plucked 4 more black petals that were slightly different from the previous one from the air.

Holding 2 petals in between the knuckles of each hand. Kanum pulled back his arms and gathered strength into his hands and elbows.

Finally, after adjusting himself into the perfect position, Kanum flexed his muscles and finally swung his knuckles forward, releasing all 4 petals in a precise manner.

All four of the small black petals flew in tandem, heading toward the closest petal panel.

Cutting through the air, as soon as the four petals made contact with the first petal panel, it reflected it, changing their trajectory and heading for the next petal panel.

*Vong, vong, vong, vong* noises radiated from each of the petals as they cut through the air faster than a bullet.

The four petals continued to bounce and ricochet off every one of the petal panels, and as they made their way downstairs, the 4 petals suddenly stopped bouncing in sync.

The 4 petals split evenly into 2 groups, with one group overtaking the other by a fairly large margin

Once the leading group reached the bottom, it flew to the left, and not too long after, the following group reached the bottom as well, but instead of going left, they went right.

*Peong, peong, fung* the sound from the bullet speed pedal changed as they separated.

Nearing the end of their journey, the petals from both sides left their counterpart and split toward their own direction.

Finally, all at once, the four petals shot onto one target in all four directions. Too fast for anyone to react in a reasonable time

All four petals shot at Shry at high speeds, faster than the eye can see, but right before they could hit him, the four petals disappeared and four tall transparent black barriers took their places.

"Huh?!" Shry expressed his surprise as he began banging on the barriers, trying to get out.

Feeling his pedals activate, Kanum began his descent downstairs. On his way down, his grin grew larger and larger with each step, thinking about Shry's reaction.

When Kanum finally got downstairs, the first thing he did was look around, trying to spot the results of his calculations, but it didn't take him long.

As his eyes landed on his son's trapped figure, he burst out in laughter.

*Hahahahah ha* Kanum held his stomach and wiped a tear from his right eye.

The scene was extremely comical; Shry's face was pressed up against the barrier while trying to push his way out, but because the barrier was see-through, his face looked ridiculous, squished up against it like that, and as he got more aggressive, it just made it look all the more hilarious.

Seeing that it was a success, Kanum made all of his petal panels disappear just by thinking about it, leaving only the barriers that kept Shry entrapped.

Satisfied with his work, Kanum began surveying the room. From all the sound he heard from upstairs, Kanum was prepared for the worst, and he wasn't wrong.

All the furniture in the living room was strewn everywhere, in the messiest way. And dozens of his precious decorative items were misplaced

Kanum didn't mind some of the furniture being misplaced, even if it's messy, since they were going to bring some of it upstairs anyway, but what really bothered him was the missing decorations.

Every two months, their house will go through a thematic change in interior. And the person that's responsible for that is Kanum; he always puts his heart and soul into planning out and working on decoration because he wants to always keep their house looking lively. That is why, when he saw all of his effort dismantled like that, he couldn't help but feel devastated.

Kanum looked around again, trying to spot where Shry had moved his precious decorations to. That's when Spotted a collage of items across the dresser near the front door; dozens of decorative knick-knacks were strewn all across it, ranging from tasteful artistic mini sculptures to a long-necked dinosaur.

"Dad..." Shry said in an apologetic voice as his mind cleared

Now that Shry was contained, his excitement wore out, and finally he began to recognize his mistake, especially after looking at the state of the living room and Kanum's devastated expression.

*Haaaah* Kanum sighed.

(I guess it was almost time for me to change them up anyway...) Kanum thought justified to himself

Kanum looked back at the ravaged room for a second before walking toward the dresser with all his decorative knick-knacks.

(Maybe I should make it sci-fi themed this time.) Kanum thought as a small smile began to appear on his face.

As Kanum was returning the decorations to their rightful places. In the middle of putting down a Fabergé egg, he suddenly stopped, and his eyes glowed with inspiration.

(What's Dad doing?) Shry questioned his heart as he watched Kanum's strange actions.

"Da-" Shry was about to call out to his father, but before he could even utter a word, he saw his dad turn into a blur as he ran past him.

When looking at his own decorations, an idea suddenly struck him. Ignoring everything else, including his son, he dashed into a room next to the stairs.

The room he ran into was moderately small, with mountains of boxes stacked in it, some even reaching the ceiling. There was also a shelf in the room carrying a wide variety of odd-looking and mystical devices, though this was not what Kanum aimed for.

Instead, Kanum went straight to the boxes, moving and opening them one by one, trying to find something specific.

Meanwhile, while Kanum was rummaging through the storage room, Shelt wandered downstairs. Her hair was neat, and her face looked fresh and relieved. She also seemed to have changed out of her pajamas into a set of comfortable indoor clothes.

"Good morning, Mom!" Shry excitedly greeted

Glancing over at her son, she wasn't very surprised that he got trapped by Kanum, since it happens pretty often

"Good morning," Shelt waved her hand as she replied lovingly.

(These two are too similar...) Shelt secretly thought

Unlike Kanum's reaction when looking at the mess of a living room, Shelt didn't seem to be bothered by it at all. She knew that the living room would've ended up like this by the end of today anyway, so she just let it be for now. Additionally, she also thought that it'll be a good opportunity for them to clean out the unseen crevices under the furniture.

Shelt was about to make her way to the kitchen to grab a glass of water and prepare breakfast when she noticed something. Half of the decorative knick-knacks that were supposed to return to their rightful places still remained, untouched and forgotten about.

Knowing how much it means to Kanum, Shelt walked over to the dresser where all of the decorative knick-knacks were and tried her best to put them back to their original places

*Bang bang, ching cling cling* Sounds of rummaging resounded from the storage room.

"What are you up to now..." Shelt said with a tired voice

Noticing the noises, Shelt quickly looked over to where they came from. When she saw that the door to the storage room was slightly ajar, she'd already figured out what Kanum was up to, or more specifically, she knew he was up to something.

"What is Dad doing?" Shry asked in curiosity as he couldn't see where his dad went.

"Nothing good, probably," Shelt instinctively muttered out.

Unable to hear what his mother said, Shry tilted his head in a questioning manner.

Noticing this, Shelt just shrugged and pretended like she didn't say anything, while also alse pretending that she doesn't know.

When transferring the decorative knick-knacks back to their rightful places, Shelt had a hard time remembering where they were supposed to be.

Noticing this, Shry, in an effort to redeem himself, began directing his mother using only his voice and hand gestures to direct Shelt where to put each decoration since he was still trapped.

"The dinosaur should be next to the TV, Mommy." Shry stated and pointed to the left of the TV.

Now that most of the decorations were back in their original places, the vision for the living room had become clearer.

"Alright." Shelt smiled and nodded.

As she finished adjusting the dinosaur into position, Shelt took a step back to get a full view of Kanum's decorative prowess. As the full image became clearer and clearer the more she stepped back, she couldn't help but question the state of their home.

Although the decorations looked quite nice and had a cohesive theme holding them together, now that she had the opportunity to truly contemplate the decor, she felt like Kanum should tone it down before their whole house becomes an accurate rendition of the prehistoric era

*Cling cling chung* Sounds of Kanum's rummaging continued to rattle

Ignoring the sounds, now that Shelt is done with her task, she stood up and looked at a jar of candy on the coffee table.

Picking up the jar, Shelt put her hand into it and took two berry-flavored candies. She looked at Shry for a moment, expecting him to be exhilarated at the prospect of getting candy, but what she saw wasn't something she expected.

Shry was slumped in the barrier, dozing off as his drowsiness caught up with him. Walking up to Shry, Shelt tapped on the barrier imprisoning him, making noise.

"Du du du" the barrier hummed each time Shelt tapped it.

Shry quickly shot awake and looked at his mother. With his attention on her, Shelt dangled one of the candies and pointed at it.

When Shry saw it, the lethargic look on his face disappeared and excitement took its place, driving him wide awake.

"Hehe" Shelt giggled softly at Shry's behavior

Shelt waited for a moment, enjoying Shry's cute expression for a bit longer. Before throwing the candy over the barrier, Shelt made sure Shry understood her, she placed the candy on her fingers and gestured that she was going to throw it over. When Shelt saw that Shry understood her meaning, she gently launched it over the barrier.

Shry tried catching it, but he failed, and it ended up landing on his head. Feeling it land, Shry tilted his head downwards and caught it as it fell.

Seeing that Shry received it, Shelt waved goodbye to her son and continued with her original objective.

On her way, she tore open the candy and put it into her mouth, making her hum in enjoyment as the sweet, succulent taste of berries bonded with her taste buds.

"I FOUND IT!" Kanum's voice pierced through the storage room as he yelled in excitement.
