Season 1-Foreign Ground.
Previous Chapter:
Villager: Alright, we've all agreed. That child's name is now Remi Reinhart!
Villager: He's truly a great warrior. We owe him so much…
Remi: (smiles) Thank you. I appreciate the name you've given me…
Remi: I, Remi Reinhart, promise to protect this village as best I can.
Tomas: Help me clean up the mess.
S: Everything went just as we planned, Remi!
Meanwhile. Cashew and Viktor. On horseback.
Cashew: Hey, Viktor. I want to ask you something—what exactly is a city?
Viktor: You really don't know?
Cashew: Yeah. If I did, I wouldn't be asking you.
Viktor: Simply put, a city is a place bigger than a village. I hope that makes sense.
Cashew: O-okay. So, are we still far from reaching the city?
Viktor: We've arrived.
Road Sign: Welcome to Graz – Steiermark – Austria
Cashew: Graz? Steiermark? Austria?
Cashew: Why are there three names for one place?
Viktor: You weirdo. Graz is the name of the city. Steiermark is the state. And Austria is the country.
Cashew: (surprised) State? Country? I'm so confused.
Cashew: I only know about villages.
Viktor: Let me ask you something… where exactly are you and your friends from?
Cashew: (nervous) From somewhere very far from here. And there, there's no such thing as cities or countries. Only villages.
Viktor: Alright, I won't press you any further.
Viktor: We've arrived!
Cashew: (amazed) Whoa… this place is so crowded, and the buildings are massive.
Cashew: So this is what a city looks like…
Viktor: Yep. Now let's secure our horse somewhere safe. We'll continue on foot to find Mr. Franz.
Cashew: Got it.
Moments later
Cashew: Hey! I've tied up our horse in a safe spot.
Viktor: Follow me closely, don't get lost.
Viktor: It's really crowded here—if you disappear, I won't be able to find you.
Cashew: Understood. Let's go find Mr. Franz.
Viktor: One rule—don't talk to strangers unless absolutely necessary.
Cashew: Got it.
Viktor: Alright, let's start looking for him now.
Viktor: First stop, the market.
At the market
Cashew: (shocked) It's so busy here.
Cashew: I don't think we'll find Mr. Franz easily.
Viktor: Just stay focused.
Viktor: By the way, your outfit stands out a lot here. People might think you're from a foreign country.
Cashew: I'll try not to look too suspicious.
Cashew: (in his mind) This is way busier than District 4 in Cryverra.
Viktor: I'd love to buy us something to eat, but unfortunately, I didn't bring any money.
Cashew: M-money? What's that?
Viktor: Your hometown must be really behind, huh?
Viktor: Money is used to buy things. Do you guys still trade stuff?
Cashew: (hesitant) Yeah. We trade mined goods for food and various other items.
Viktor: That reminds me of my own hometown.
Cashew: Viktor, I see an old man who kind of looks like Mr. Franz.
Cashew: (pointing right) Over there.
Viktor: Let's go after him.
They chase the old man
Viktor: Excuse me, sir! (from behind)
Old man: Yes? Can I help you?
Viktor: (awkward) Uh… sorry, wrong person.
Cashew: Dang it, we got the wrong guy.
Viktor: Don't give up, let's keep looking!
Vendor: Hey kid, want a sack of potatoes? Only 18 Heller.
Viktor: Sorry, we're not buying anything.
Cashew: Heller? Is that the money you mentioned?
Viktor: Heller is just a small unit. The full name is Krone.
???: Hey, you two! What are you doing here?
Viktor: (surprised) MR. FRANZ!
Cashew: We didn't even have to look—he came to us!
Viktor: (runs up) Mr. Franz!
Franz: What are you two doing all the way out here? This is far from home.
Viktor: Our village… was raided. Some people have already been killed!
Franz: (shocked) W-What?
Viktor: We need to get back to the village now!!
Franz: Help me push this cart. It's our winter supply stockpile.
Cashew: I'll push it. Viktor's injured—he can't handle it.
Franz: THEN LET'S MOVE!
On the way back to Farmland
Cashew: (panting)
Viktor: You okay to keep pushing the cart?
Cashew: Don't worry. Keep going.
Franz: Relax, Cashew. You only need to push it until we exit the city.
Franz: After that, the horse will pull it.
Cashew: I'm still good, don't worry!
Franz: (smiles proudly) From now on, your name is Cashew Wayne.
Viktor: Yep. Another new name for the list.
Franz: Viktor, fill me in on everything on the way!
Viktor: Alright, sir.
Franz: I see the city's edge up ahead!
Franz: Hook up the cart to the horse!
Viktor: I'll help you, Cashew.
Cashew: Left side's connected!
Viktor: Right side too…
Franz: Alright then, hop on!
Cashew & Viktor: Yes sir!
Riding fast on horseback
Cashew: Mr. Franz, why did you name me Wayne?
Franz: It reminded me of my childhood friend, back when I lived in the west.
Franz: His name was Wayne. He and I used to push carts at the market.
Franz: That's where your name came from.
Cashew: Thank you. I appreciate it.
Viktor: The west? So you're not originally from here?
Franz: Correct. I was born and raised in Scotland.
Franz: I came here with my brother, and together we founded Farmland.
Cashew: Scotland? Is that also a country?
Viktor: Yep.
Franz: Hold on tight. I'm speeding up!
Cashew & Viktor: Yes sir!
Hours later, after a long journey—they arrive at Farmland
Franz: Everything's destroyed… I think we're too late. (regretful expression)
Viktor: (squinting) No. We're not.
Viktor: Look—they're all right there. (points ahead)
Remi: That's them!
Siro: But… the looters have already been defeated.
S: At least Mr. Franz should hear about this.
Franz's wagon comes to a stop.
Franz: (regretful tone) I'm sorry, everyone. I'm too late…
Villager: Mr. Adler, ten people are injured. Seven have died.
Villager: We're sorry. We didn't fight back against the armed looters.
Franz: No. I'm the one who should be sorry—for arriving after it was all over. (voice filled with regret)
Villager: Calm yourself.
Villager: The looters have been defeated. And their leader is in custody.
Franz: (shocked) Who defeated them?
S: Remi.
Villager: Yeah. That young man named Remi took them down.
Villager: We gave him the name Remi Reinhart.
Cashew: Reinhart? Cool name.
Remi: Thank you, everyone.
Cashew: I've received a name too—from Mr. Franz.
Cashew: I am… Cashew Wayne.
Emrik: Awesome name, buddy.
Tomas: Thank you all for fighting alongside me.
Franz: Clean everything up. Fix what's broken.
Franz: And bury the ones we've lost.
Cashew: (thinking) I need to document all of this. I've learned so much.
Cashew: I'm sure now—this isn't the same world as Cryverra.
Remi: (weakly) Cashew Wayne… cool name.
S: (thinking) Cashew… what did you really see out there?
—Foreign Ground. End.
