Chapter 6 - Episode 6 – City of Echoes

Narrator: "Silence used to mean peace. Now it means they're listening."

9:13 PM – Backstreets of Sector 17

The night carried tension like fog. Every corner creaked, every shadow twitched.

We spotted it—an old warehouse, once a hospital supply center. Metal shutters rusted half open, vines crept through cracks, but it was defensible.

Kartik (checking surroundings):"Dead streets. No moans. We take it."

Ananya (softly):"There's a back stairway to the basement. Used to deliver surgical kits."

Ayush:"Lead the way."

Shivam and Sana carried Tanya—her leg had cramped mid-run. Lucky held the green flashlight tight, its battery down to 30%.

Ananya pointed at a collapsed grocery store with a signboard half hanging off.

Ananya:"Back there… that small building behind that kirana shop. That's where they used to keep expired med stock and cleaning supplies."

Kartik:"Concrete walls?"

Ananya:"Two floors. Basement, reinforced. Barely anyone knows about it."

Ayush:"Then that's where we disappear."

9:34 PM – Supply Shelter, Sector 17-B

We kicked open the rusted back entrance and sealed it from inside with an iron rod.

It was dark. No power. But quiet.

Lucky:"Smells like bleach and rats. But it's dry."

Kartik (checking his pulse):"We'll survive the night. That's more than what most get these days."

Inside the Shelter

The place was half collapsed, but the storage room in the basement was untouched.

Food found:

•5 expired but usable MRE kits

•2 bottles of glucose water

•1 sealed biscuit crate (slightly cracked but okay)

Weapons:

•2 rusted iron rods

•3 wooden mop handles

•1 paper cutter

•1 hammer (half broken)

It wasn't much, but enough to feel like we had a chance.

Shivam:"Feels like we found loot in a horror game."

Lucky (grinning):"Only thing missing is the save point."

10:12 PM – Basement Floor, Candlelight

Ananya was in the far corner, sitting near a broken fan, clutching an old keychain in her hand—one with a photo.

I walked over and sat quietly beside her.

Ayush:"You holding up?"

Ananya (still staring at the photo):"That was taken the day before dad left for work. He said, 'Emergency drill, I'll be back by evening.' He never came home."

I looked at her—really looked. The dust in her hair, the tired lines under her eyes… and the strength she didn't even know she had.

She suddenly turned toward me.

Ananya:"I asked to talk privately… because I didn't want to say this in front of everyone. If something happens to me—if I don't make it—I need you to know something."

My heart stopped.

Ayush:"Ananya..."

She reached for my hand, trembling slightly.

Ananya (voice low):"You're the only person left that makes me feel like this world isn't lost. And if there's one thing I want to do before it all falls apart… it's this."

She leaned forward, slowly. My breath caught.

Her lips met mine—tentative, soft, trembling, but real.Time didn't stop. But for a second… it slowed.

When we pulled apart, she rested her forehead on mine.

Ananya (whispering):"This isn't just because we might die. It's because with you… I feel alive."

10:36 PM – On the Other Side of the Shelter

Kartik sat cross-legged near the map, flicking his lighter on and off.

Sana was beside him, quietly mending her torn sleeve with a safety pin.

Sana:"You're staring again."

Kartik (smirking):"Hard not to."

Sana:"Even now? With everything going on?"

Kartik (serious now):"Especially now.I don't want to leave anything unsaid."

She turned toward him, puzzled. He got up, dusted off his jacket, and stood in front of her.

Kartik:"I've fought zombies, seen death, and almost froze to death in that school's generator room. But the scariest thing I've faced… is this."

He reached into his bag and pulled out a tiny velvet box—charred and bent from fire damage.

Inside: a small metallic ring, not fancy—but it shimmered faintly in the dim light.

Sana (breathless):"Kartik…?"

Kartik (voice shaking):"I was gonna wait till after the world ended. But screw it.I love you, Sana. I have, long before this madness started.I don't have a priest, or flowers, or even certainty we'll live through tomorrow. But if you'll be mine—through this hell—I don't need anything else."

She looked at him, eyes watery. Then, without a word, she stood, wrapped her arms around him, and held him tight.

Sana (muffled in his chest):"You idiot… you think I'd say no?"

He slipped the ring on her finger—wrong hand at first.

Sana (laughing softly):"Left hand, Einstein."

They sat back down, her head on his shoulder.

Writer is crying seeing the romance and love , Why i don't have one 😭

10:58 PM – Return to Reality

The group gathered around the rusted metal table.

Ayush (looking at a faded radio):"Tomorrow we try the signal again. If anyone's out there… they'll hear us."

Ananya (beside him now):"And if no one responds?"

Ayush (firm):"We keep going. Together."

Kartik:"There's an army checkpoint 4 km north. If we can get past Sector 18… we may find survivors."

Shivam:"Or find a horde waiting to eat our faces."

Lucky:"Either way, at least we die with cool people."

Everyone chuckled faintly. It was the kind of laugh that held pain beneath it—but it still mattered.

FINAL VOICEOVER – Ayush

"It's strange. We spend our whole lives waiting for something perfect. But when the world collapses… sometimes, it's the broken moments that feel the most whole."
