Chapter 2 - Meeting the Lorenzo Family

She wondered what her husband and Lorenzo were going to talk about. She couldn't move from where she was staying because she knew that if she did, they might suspect something.

Her husband finally came back and said, "My love, it's already getting late. We should get going."

"Okay, let's leave this mansion now. You're right," Luna replied.

Matteo said, "Yes, yes, love."

As she stretched her hand forward, holding his, they walked toward their car. The driver opened the door for them, and they both got in. As they drove off, Luna kept wondering, Why didn't I realize he was in the mafia?

I was so happy with my life since I was small. Even though my life wasn't great, and my father was rich, he still beat me and treated me mercilessly. I was so happy when I realized I was getting married to the head of the Matteo family—my husband. His family name is also in him. But look at me now. I don't know what to think anymore because it's the mafia. Drug smuggling, kidnapping, money laundering—they do all sorts of things. I'm not sure if marrying him was the right decision. He probably really loves me—I can feel his love—but he did such things for me. This is surely an evil deed. I have to make sure I know everything before I confront him.

He pretends like nothing happened. I thought he was just a businessman. I know he owns some casinos, and the casinos usually get rough. That's why he has men posted at the mansion and some with him most of the time. So I wasn't that worried and was carefree. But not anymore. I'm going to find out the truth and everything behind this.

Luna spoke to herself in her mind.

"Why are you behaving weird? Is something bothering you? You've been acting strangely, and I've noticed it. Is anything wrong? I hope there's no problem. Did anyone say anything to you?" her husband, Matteo, asked.

"No, no, no, I'm fine, honey. I'm okay. I'm just not feeling well," Luna said.

"Don't worry, you're going to be okay," Matteo reassured her.

"Thank you, my husband," Luna replied.

Luna was still thinking about her husband being part of the mafia. That was all she could think about. She wondered, Is this all I'll ever think about?

She wanted to ask him, but she made up her mind—she wasn't going to confront him until she had enough evidence.

As they arrived at their house, the driver stopped. Matteo stepped out of the car and stretched. Luna, lost in thought, also stepped out and went to her room.

She kept wondering, Why did he become a mafia boss? Was it before I married him or after we got married? I want to know the truth about all this. I want to know his secrets. I sincerely love my husband, but he does a lot of illegal things. That's not good. He told me he owns casinos—I know about that—but my main problem is why he lied. If it was really just a business, why didn't he tell me the truth?

I just have to find out what started all of this. I don't have anything to do in this house. When I was small, my life wasn't good. My dad didn't really love me. He was rich, but I was very sad. All I ever wanted was to be happy, and finally, I got married to Matteo, and I was happy. But now…

He told me the reason we have so many bodyguards around the house was because of what happens in the casinos—that people might come to attack because they lost money. But now I know that was a lie. The real reason for all this security is that he's in the mafia, and people will come for him because of what he has done. I have to make sure he doesn't suspect anything because he has already noticed I've been acting strange. I need to be careful.

Luna said to herself as she removed her dress. She went to the bathroom to take off her makeup, then decided to cook for him because he loved her cooking. She didn't want him to suspect she was avoiding him. She put on her usual cooking clothes and tied an apron around her waist.

As she walked down to the kitchen, she looked at the bodyguards and security. So, this is what they were really for… she thought. I have to make his best meal.

He had become rich so suddenly. I'm suspicious, she thought. When we got married, he was rich, but not this rich. Then, two years ago, he became incredibly wealthy. Every time we traveled for our honeymoon, he made sure to buy an expensive house in each country we visited. We have one in Italy, one in Japan, one in Brazil, and even one in Spain. I was so shocked when he bought a private jet at the same time. He even used one to celebrate my birthday last year.

I have to focus, Luna told herself as she walked to the kitchen.

She put on her apron and prepared everything. She wanted to make steak because Matteo loved it. She went to the large freezer, cut a big piece of meat, and boiled it to remove any parasites. Then, she spread oil over it, turned on the stove, and placed a frying pan on the burner. She rubbed butter and some sauce with a little pinch of salt on the meat before placing it in the pan. It started to fry. She carefully turned it so it cooked evenly and became crispy.

Once it was ready, she took it off the pan and plated it. She set the table with a spoon and knife, then placed the steak on a tray. After removing her apron, she carried the tray to the living room, where Matteo was sitting.

She placed it on the table in front of him. Matteo picked up the knife and sliced into the steak.

"So you decided to cook today, my love? I know it's going to be delicious. Thank you. You're my everything. Don't forget that," Matteo said.

"You're welcome. Enjoy your meal," Luna said as she sat down, watching him eat.

"You haven't eaten anything. Come and join me. This is enough for both of us," Matteo insisted.

"No, there's no need. I'm not really that hungry," Luna said.

"No, no, no. You should eat. Come, taste your own cooking. Every time I eat your food, I feel like I'm in heaven. That's why I'm grateful I married you. So come and eat with me," Matteo said.

"If you insist," Luna replied as she sat beside him.

Matteo called for the maid to bring another knife and fork. When the maid returned, Luna took the utensils and joined him in eating.

"You're right. It's so delicious. I guess I really am the best cook," Luna said with a small smile.

"Yes, you are. Sometimes I feel like I haven't praised you enough. Since I married you, you've been my happiness and everything," Matteo said.

He paused for a moment, then asked, "What should we name our child when we have one? What do you think?"

Luna hesitated, stopping mid-bite. "I don't know… maybe when we have a child, we'll figure it out then," she said, looking at his face.

After finishing their meal, they both went to bed.

What will tomorrow bring? Luna wondered. I have to get ready. I have to prepare for tomorrow. She lay on the bed, deep in thought.
