"Are you ready, honey?" her husband asked gently.
After her eye surgery, the operation was a success. It took several hours of waiting, but now, it was finally over.
"Thank you, honey, for everything you've done for me. Words aren't enough to express how grateful I am," she said, holding his hand tightly.
"I'd do anything for you, love. But promise me, never belittle yourself again. Learn to value yourself, okay?" her husband replied. Her heart felt so full from the sincerity in his words.
"Alright, Mrs., in just a few more minutes, we'll remove your blindfold," the doctor announced.
While waiting, she felt her husband's grip tighten. She felt so happy—hopeful even.
But as the moment neared, her husband suddenly let go and whispered, "Honey, I need to go for a while. When you open your eyes, don't look for me right away. Rest first, okay?"
"Okay… I promise. Just come back. I want to see you."
"I'll come back," he said with a faint smile.
Her Husband's POV:
"Doc, are you here?" he asked, weakly.
"You're strong, son. What you did... shows true love. You traded your life for the sight of the woman you love," the doctor said solemnly.
"Doc, I only have a few seconds left... Please promise me you'll take care of her. Don't let her fall apart again," he pleaded.
"You are selfless, Kheo. We will never forget you. Thank you for what you've done for my friend," Lala said, holding back tears.
"Please tell her I love her so much. That she should always take care of herself, and above all—stay strong. Thank you, Lala."
Those were his final words before he took his last breath.
Lala broke down in tears, terrified—how would she explain everything to her friend? She didn't know where to begin or how her friend would take it. She knew she would wish to undo everything, even if it meant being blind forever, just to have her one true love back.
