The chamber door opened, and Kael turned instantly, pulse flaring.
Lira stood in the entryway, wearing a dark uniform bearing the Ashen Circle crest, her long black coat brushing the floor.
They stared at each other across the cryo chamber.
She didn't speak first.
Kael did.
"Was it worth it?" His voice cracked like lightning. "Everything you destroyed. My parents. Me."
Her lips trembled—but her voice remained cold.
"You don't understand."
"Then explain," Kael snapped. "Before I destroy this place."
She stepped forward.
"They were going to let my brother die. The government. The hospitals. Your parents." Her voice broke. "So I made a deal."
Kael clenched his fists.
"And you killed mine to save yours."
