Cherreads

Chapter 2 - Magic.

Her eyes were locked into his. She couldn't move, or at least, she couldn't move her gaze from his. It was like something was chained to his eyes, those eyes that no longer held any mercy, something that should've been buried underground, something or someone that deserved to die.

She immediately looked down and grabbed the piece of paper, pretending like she was okay.

"Let's begin formally." She said, though her voice held a hint of hesitation. "By the authority of the International Investigation Court, and based on findings from the Astira Intelligence Agency in cooperation with the International Defense Bureau, you are hereby indicted on the following charges, illegal arms trade, unauthorized possession, and large-scale distribution of restricted military-grade weapons." She looked up at him, but he didn't seem fazed. "You are also charged with international drug trafficking, multiple counts of premeditated murder, and the targeted execution of political figures and law enforcement officers." She paused, a smirk curling her lips as she read the final line. "And finally... you are accused of crimes against humanity. Coordinated atrocities that cross borders, systems, and lives with no regard for morality, law, or human life."

She tossed the paper onto the table and stared straight at Joseph.

"You're so fucked, I don't even have a word for it."

[System] In summerry it means you are really fucked.

Thanks for saying but shut the fuck up.

"I mean… wow, what a nice list, but half of it's not true." Joseph said as he was looking at her with that same calm expression. "And crime against humanity?" He looked at Marcus, then back to her. "Fuck, are y'all gone insane or what?" He laughed a bit.

But she didn't really like his answer, and she slowly walked up to Joseph, and with a smirk on her face, she hit him so hard in the nose that he almost fell back with the chair.

"You fucking supplied wars!" She shouted, grabbing him by the shirt collar. "Do you know how many people died because of you? But not just that… the drugs you supplied to the whole country and half of the continent, you motherfucker!" She hit him again, and the blood from Joseph's nose just poured out.

[System] Your nose is broken, minimal blood loss.

His head was limped down as the blood soaked into his white shirt, his vision was blurry, and his head spun as the woman walked back to the table grabbing the paper again.

"It states clearly there will be no trial! By direct order of the International Investigation Court, you are denied legal representation. There will be no appeal. No defense. No last words in front of a jury." She took a breath, eyes locked on him."You'll be executed by firing squad."

A pause.

"After that, your body will be cremated. No grave. No records. No trace left behind. No one will remember your name... as far as the world is concerned, you never existed."

[System] The chance of you walking out alive is below 10%.

"Ohh no traces… which means no evidence of the corrupt government, the corporate IIC… nice job y'all doing…" He said while wiped of the blood form his face.

"You are a devil, who killed countless people, those who didn't deserve it!"

"Ohh, who exactly?" Joseph asked as he starred at her. "Where is the evidence? It's just all alleged… what I did, where's the proof, the evidence? Because I know for a fact let's talk about it. Bryan Hull you know what I have read in the news?" Her hand twitched and Marcus too for a moment shook his head. "43 thousand pictures of children on his hard drive… and you fuckers put him on house arrest and he kept his minister job…"

"It was a mistake that we already—"

A laugh. He laughed.

"A mistake? There are 125 names on my mind right now that are worse than him, and nothing happened until… somebody killed them. That wasn't me." He laughed again. "What about starvation? No running water in the countryside, no food, no help… but me, yeah, I helped them. And you all demand who did crimes against humanity? I have non-profit companies. I have—"

"You made soldiers from them!" She shouted. "You just bought thousands of people's loyalty. You tricked them, made them believe you are a messiah, the hope itself… but you just exploited them!"

"I couldn't do it with a wish, so I did it my own way…" There was silence as he said it because they knew it was truth to some extent. Joseph helped people, he provided food care and work for them, but only for his reason to get more soldiers, and more influence. "Anyway you're too emotional. Why would the IIC send an agent that's overly sensitive and emotional? Marcus, what the fuck is this… a TV show or what?" He looked at him, but Marcus wasn't looking back, he was staring at the ground. So, he looked back at the woman. "But anyway… it's almost time for me to get up and walk out."

"Huh?"

"I will walk out." He said with the utmost certainty.

"On your own?" She slapped the table as she laughed. "How are you planning to do that? The wish? You want to use your fucking wish for it?"

"Oh a my wish, no I don't plan to use it for a little occasion like this." He smiled. "Your phone is going to ring… and then you will understand."

"You're not in a movie." She laughed again. "You are going to die."

"Well, you fucked up choosing the time to arrest me... if you had done it two weeks ago, then yes... I would have been fucked. But today?" He shook his head. "Intelligence agency and shit, but still blind as fuck."

"What is today, the stars aligned or what?"

Joseph laughed. He found it funny, actually a joke that made him laugh at but then he looked up. "No, actually it's our new president's inauguration."

Her eyes widened as she started puzzling out what it meant.

"There is no way—"

Her phone started ringing, and Joseph just smiled into her face.

She didn't look down as she pulled out her phone. "Hello…?" Her eyes were still on Joseph. "Ohh darling… what's up?" She asked, then pulled the phone down. "It's my daughter." She smiled into Joseph's face.

"Fuck… I really thought it would be the president." He laughed at himself.

[System] The chance of you getting out of here has dropped to 5%.

Hmm it's better than zero…

"Bye, baby." She hung up. "I actually got scared for a second… but just accept it. You're going to—"

The door suddenly opened and an older man immediately went up to Joseph, grabbing him by the collar.

"How did you do that?!" He asked, pushing him to the wall.

"Magic…" Joseph answered.

"What happened?" She asked from the back, confused.

"He got a presidential pardon."
