Cherreads

Chapter 3 - Pain

Come on, let's buy some groceries now. You must be hungry. We'll go home and make something tasty. Okay, mom, hurry up! You talk so much-come on, let's go quickly. We have to do all the shopping outside

Vani started pushing the trolley after making Jeev stand in it. Vani kept putting all the items from the list into the trolley. Jeev was comfortably enjoying the trolley ride.

Meanwhile, a few women were watching the two of them. They were admiring the mother and son duo. "Look how cute the mother and son look together!" they said.

The other woman said, "Yes, he must definitely take after his father. His father must be very handsome-you can tell just by looking at this child. He must be very charming. This woman is very lucky to have such a handsome husband and son.

Yes, and that boy looks so handsome," another woman said. "Yes, his mother is also so young and beautiful. There's no doubt about it-the child's parents are good-looking, that's why he is too.

Vani was smiling after hearing those women's comments. She knew her son was very handsome and that in the future, he would definitely be the crush of many girls.

Just then, another woman said, "Yes, you're right, but this child doesn't look like his mother. He must have taken after his father.

Hearing their words, Vani's face turned pale. Just a while ago, she had been smiling at the compliments for her child, but now those women's remarks seemed meaningless to her

Somewhere deep down, Vani knew those women were speaking the truth-Jivesh's father really was very handsome, and with a strong personality too. Even Jivesh looked like his father, and as he grew up, Vani was sure he would resemble him even more.

When Jeev saw his mom looking sad, he understood that mentioning his father had made her upset. He held Vani's hand and, tugging at it, said, "Mama, I don't want that toy gun. Please, can you get it for me?

Vani looked at him in surprise because Jeev had never liked toys. Whenever Vani brought him a toy, he would just say, "Don't waste money on this, and besides, I'm not a little kid," and return the toy.

Vani understood that Jeev was just asking for the toy to distract her, but today, for the first time, her son had asked for a toy. How could she refuse him? Vani bought him that toy gun.

After finishing their shopping, both mother and daughter return home. Vani starts arranging all the groceries in the kitchen. Soon, Nisha also arrives. Vani asks Nisha to play with Jeev and then goes to the kitchen to prepare food.

Aunt, look! I bought a new toy gun from the mall. Come, let me show you."

Nisha first touches Jeev's cheek, then his forehead.

He says, "Aunt, what are you doing? Let me go!"

I was just checking if you have a fever or not.

When did you start playing with toys and making noises?"

"Oh come on, Aunt, you just don't want to play with me!

Oh! Aunt, do you want to play with me or not? Okay, little mouse, let's play!"

Both of them get busy playing with the toy gun.

After a while, Vani finishes cooking and sets the food on the dining table. She then calls both of them to come and eat.

Today, seeing Jeev playing with the toy gun brings a peaceful smile to Vani's face. But then, when she remembers his cold expression-which reminds her of that man-Vani's heart fills with a bitter sadness.

She calls both of them again to eat: "Nisha, dear, come quickly, the food is getting cold."

"Okay, Mama, we are coming. Let's go.

Let's go, little mouse, otherwise your mom will scold us.

Then both of them sit at the dining table to drink their tea and eat.

After the three of them finish eating, Jeev goes to brush his teeth. Vani starts washing dishes in the kitchen. Nisha comes to her, places her hand on Vani's shoulder.

Vani turns around, raises her eyebrows at Nisha, and asks with a gesture, "What happened?"

Nisha says in a serious tone, "You're worried. You're hiding something from me. Tell me, what's the matter?

Vani lowers her head and starts working again.

She says, "No, nothing has happened. You're worrying for no reason.

Nisha turns her towards herself and says, "If nothing happened, then why are tears quietly falling from your eyes? And you…

You've been sad since evening. Earlier, I didn't ask you because of Jeev, but now-will you tell me, or should I make you talk in my own style?

Vani, crying, hugs her. Nisha gently runs her hand through Vani's hair and says, "My dear, what happened? Why are you crying? Did someone say something to you?

If that buffalo-faced neighbor of yours has said something to you, I'll go and set them straight right now-just wait, you just-

Vani, still crying, says to her, "No, no, no one said anything to me. I just…

Nisha says, "So, are you crying because of Jeev's father?"

Vani just lowers her head.

Nisha, raising her voice, says, "For God's sake, forget that man!
