The drive back from the hospital was suffocating with silence. I gripped the steering wheel, my knuckles white as bone, while Kaelen stared out the window and Ronan gazed absently at his phone. None of us wanted to voice what we were all thinking.
We'd just chosen Seraphina over our own flesh and blood.
The weight of that decision pressed against my chest as we pulled through the mansion gates. Raindrops spattered the windshield, matching my dark mood perfectly.
"We did the right thing," Kaelen finally said, breaking the silence as I parked.
"Did we?" I asked, turning off the engine. "Because it sure as hell doesn't feel like it."
Ronan sighed, pocketing his phone. "What other choice did we have? Mark Lilith as a true mate? Sacrifice any chance with Sera forever?"
"No," I admitted. "That wasn't an option."
"Exactly," Kaelen said firmly. "We won't lose Seraphina. Not again. Not for anything."
