"Quiet down little shits! The new people over here just came to see you guys, and they have decided to adopt the little girl Yuna, she will be leaving from here tonight!!"
It was two days later when a pudgy and slimy-looking man came through the door, shouting at the kids with his spit flying everywhere. He was wearing a branded suit, a watch and leather shoes, which somehow managed to make him look even more slimy.
He was the director of the orphanage, and he was the most vile person anyone had ever met and was disliked by everyone here.
It was said that the previous director was really good, and the food provided to the children was nutritious, unlike the hot garbage they served now. New and used clothes were also given to the children, along with lots of toys regularly.
But suddenly out of nowhere, she was replaced by this slimy middle-aged guy and things started to go from bad to worse in the orphanage.
First to go were the welfare benefits like clothes, toys, and other things.
Second to go were the volunteers who used to come here to help and watch over the children. Without them, there were a lot more fights and stealing, since the kids had to do it to survive and get anything nice.
The environment became even more brutal than before.
Last to go was the good food. Replacing it was the gruel and bad stuff that had almost zero nutrition and was barely able to keep the kids alive.
"NO!! I don't want to get away from my Rudra-nii!!! I will stay here!!" The little girl started throwing a tantrum as soon as she heard his words.
"Shut up and be quiet you little shit, or you will get some. You lot are nothing but a burden on the planet. Be grateful someone is willing to adopt someone like you. If it were up to me, I would have already fed you to the dogs, a waste of space, a lot of you. Now, be ready to go with them tonight, or I will throw you out on the streets, along with your precious cripple of brother."
After finishing his piece, the man walked away. The little girl started crying hard, saying stuff like she did not want to go away and be separated from her brother.
Rudra's eyes flashed red for a second, hearing the director's words about hitting his little sister, before he exhaled slowly.
"Hey, hey, hey. It's okay. Don't worry. You need to go, okay? You will finally have new parents again. Maybe even a big brother or little sister who will play with you every day. Don't you want to have all the nice things again?" Rudra smiled and consoled the little girl who kept crying.
He did not want her to go as it would leave him lonely here in the orphanage, but he did not want to hold her back just because of his selfishness. He was a very good boy at heart.
"But, I don't want to- hicup- don't want to leave you Nii." The little girl said between hiccups. She didn't want anyone else. She had her family with her brother now.
"You will have lots and lots of good food. You will wear all the new dresses. Don't you want all the new things? Also, it is not like we will not meet again. I will visit your house, and you can visit me here. And we can play all day together!!" Rudra tried to drive away his sadness and do his best to console the little girl.
"Really? We can play together again? Pinky-promise?" The little girl extended her hand with her pinky stretched out. Rudra hesitated for a moment before extending his hand and promising the little girl.
"Yes, it is a pinky promise. We will definitely meet and play together again!! Now come on, let's get you ready." Seeing as her brother promised her, the little girl cheered up a little before going to get her things.
Looking at her going away to pick up her things, Rudra smiled to himself before looking at his hands. 'Maa said promises are sacred, I need to do my best to meet her again, no matter how hard it may be.'
--------------------------
It was around nighttime when Rudra found himself walking through the orphanage. He just finished packing up stuff for the little girl and was waiting to meet her new parents. If they were not good, he made up his mind not to let her go from here.
Just as he was passing by the window outside the orphanage director's office, he started hearing voices.
"...Yes, yes of course, the merchandise is really great this time. You will not find such an immaculate looking girl again. I want double the money for her." The voice of the orphanage director rang from inside the room.
"You said that the last time before sending some scrawny-looking kids to us. I suggest you make them look more presentable from now on, or they won't sell well." Another muffled voice rang out from inside. Hearing the contents of the voice, all colour drained from Rudra's face.
"Don't worry about her. I made sure to keep her nice and healthy for our...patrons." The voice of the director rang out again from the inside.
From all the things Rudra heard, they were planning to sell Yuna, and maybe it was not the first time they did something like this. He needed to keep her safe somehow. He slowly started backing away from the window, making sure not to create any noise. He needed to get out and take her with him before it was too late.
Rudra moved back carefully, but luck was never on his side as his foot found a hidden branch.
Snap.
The sound ricocheted through the darkness, and for a moment, even the wind seemed to pause.
Swearing in his mind, he picked up speed and tried to dash away with all his might, but soon saw someone standing in his path.
There was a man wearing a black suit with a fedora on his head. "You are a nosy one, aren't you boy?"
After finishing his sentence, he vanished from Rudra's sight. He tried to look for him but before he could do anything, he felt a pain on the back of his neck and he blacked out instantly.
