Chapter 12 - ch12

What surprised them even more was this little human female.

Her fighting skills weren't worse than a male's. The hornet beastman was already among the stronger ones, yet he didn't even get a chance to touch her.

Not only that, his body was covered with wounds. A few times, if he hadn't dodged fast enough, he would have been dead by now.

But weren't human females supposed to be even weaker than beastman females?

What was weak about her?

She was clearly like a demon from the night.

Seeing the hornet get defeated again and again, the two stray beastmen who hadn't moved before now rushed forward to help the spider beastman and the hornet.

Tanya frowned. She knew her own strength. Even though her soul was powerful, this thin, weak body still dragged her down. She could still handle one beastman for now, but if another joined, she wouldn't be able to deal with both.

So she quickly found the right moment, grabbed a vine, and used it to leap up into a tall tree.

She raised the dagger in her hand and charged straight at the hornet with sharp killing intent.

Right then, one of the beastmen helping the hornet suddenly shifted into his hornet beast form. At the same time, he let out a sharp screech. Suddenly, a loud buzzing noise came from the forest as countless hornets flew out.

All of them were poisonous.

"Damn it!"

Tanya had no choice but to switch from fighting the beastmen to slicing down the poisonous hornets. But there were too many. They didn't just attack her. They went after Star and Moon too.

Her eyes turned cold. She grabbed another vine, jumped into the tree again, and focused the tiny amount of wind power from her mind.

You can do it.

You must do it.

"You die!"

She swung her hand with all her power. A sharp wind blade exploded out, slicing through all the poisonous hornets and beastmen at the waist.

The forest went quiet instantly.

Her energy was gone. Everything turned black in front of her eyes, and she dropped straight from the tree.

"Sis!"

She lost consciousness. She couldn't even hear Star's loud scream.

When she woke up again, she was lying on a bamboo mat inside a bamboo house. Voices came from outside.

A strange voice said, "I just checked on that injured bird. It doesn't look good. Probably going to die."

Moon replied, "If it dies, it's fine. We'll eat it."

Star quickly said, "No! Miles said Sis caught it. She wants to keep it."

Tanya sat up and listened for a while. She realized they were talking about the injured phoenix.

She didn't rush outside. She closed her eyes and entered her consciousness to check her powers. The tiny wind power she had was now almost completely used up.

Thinking about the burst of power she had right before passing out, and the extreme weakness now, she figured it out. Her powers were currently feeding off this weak body.

This body was already fragile. Her powers didn't have enough energy either, so they stayed hidden inside her mind, which was why she didn't notice them before.

Just sitting there for a while made her dizzy. This body was too tired and weak. Now it had to support powers too.

If this went on, both her body and powers would collapse.

She used to be the strongest boss in the apocalypse. How could she die so pathetically?

No way.

Unless…

If only her wood powers had come with her too.

Wood powers could absorb the energy of all plants and level up. They could also make pure plant extract, which helped other powers grow. That's why in the apocalypse, people with wood powers were the most wanted in every base.

Thinking about this, she felt it didn't make sense that only her wind powers came with her. Her wood powers should've come too.

She didn't want to give up. Her head hurt too much, so she lay back down, closed her eyes again, and went into her consciousness.

She emptied her mind and tried to sense the energy of plants around her.

Before, she thought she had no powers other than space, so she never tried to absorb plant energy. Thinking about it now, that was so stupid.

Time passed slowly. To her surprise, she could really absorb the plant energy around her.

She was overjoyed.

Did this mean her wood powers were still with her?

Maybe her body was just too weak to support both wind and wood powers, so she never noticed the second one.

She kept absorbing plant energy for a long time. Eventually, the smell of cooked meat came from outside. Her stomach growled loudly, so she stopped.

She checked her powers again. Sure enough, the wood power was there.

Just like the wind power, it was tiny like a sesame seed. Weak. If she didn't look closely, she wouldn't see it.

She looked again and didn't find a third power.

Maybe her other powers didn't come with her.

But that was fine. These two powers were enough for her to live well in this wild beast world.

She was in a good mood now. Hunger hit her even harder.

Right then, Star came in carrying a bamboo container. She saw Tanya awake and ran over happily.

"Sis, you're finally awake! You've been sleeping for two days! You must be hungry. Drink this meat soup. I just made it!"

Tanya was really hungry. The soup had already cooled down a bit. She picked it up and drank it all in one go.

Star saw her eat and got even happier. "Sis, I'll go get you more meat!"

"Okay, add some wild vegetables in this time too." She had to admit, after her careful teaching, Star's cooking skills were improving.

"Okay!"

Star happily ran out to make more food.

Tanya had absorbed plant energy and drank meat soup. She felt much better. She pushed herself up and walked slowly outside.

Miles walked in from outside and quickly grabbed her arm. "How do you feel?"

The worry on his face was obvious. When she didn't answer right away, he got more nervous. "Do you feel uncomfortable somewhere?"

"No." Tanya was just shocked by how deeply he cared.

Shocked might be the word. In the apocalypse, she had long gotten used to being alone at the top. She was the base leader, always taking care of others. The only people who stood beside her were her enemies.

She had to kill zombies and watch out for sneak attacks from rivals.

This kind of sincere concern was new to her. Strange. Hard to describe.

She didn't know how to react.

She cleared her throat and quickly changed the topic. "Moon said you went to the river?"

"Yeah, you were unconscious for two days. I didn't go hunting. We'll eat fish today. I caught some big ones."

Miles sounded nervous, afraid she wouldn't like it.

In the tribe, most females hated eating fish.

After saying it, he worried she might really not want to eat fish and quickly added, "Now that you're awake, I'll go hunting. Just hang in there. We'll have meat for dinner!"
