Chapter 96 - 11 Minutes

His heart sank deep into his chest, as he tried to calm himself down. Was this the end? But he had promised his mother…and he had no intentions of breaking that promise. So what if he died? At least, all those he loved would be safe.

Ishar blinked back his tears and walked towards the power room. Dr. Tanvir grinned and smiled at him, in an absolutely chilling way.

"Just 11 minutes more. 11 minutes, and then the fate of the world rests in our hands. Tsk, Ishar. How disappointing."

30 seconds. 20 seconds.

10…

9…

8…

5…

4…

3…

Ishar closed his eyes, bracing himself for the impact. A tear ran out of his eye.

2.

Memories upon memories flooded his mind, as a gentle smile spread across his face.

1.

Ishar, who had closed his eyes and covered his head, looked up curiously. No blast? No spaceship destruction? With a horrified gasp, he looked at Missile-0, which had been completely absorbed by the energy sources.

"Looks like your little plan wasn't enough. Too bad. There are only 9 minutes left."

Ishar looked outside the window, utterly stunned and terrified. He spoke through his earpiece, "It didn't work! Why didn't it work?"

Pratap's anxious voice struck through, "The energy stars must be more powerful than we expected, and I have no idea what we should do now."

There was a complete silence for two minutes. Ishar's mind had went completely numb. He looked at his watch. 5 minutes.

"Ishar, I have got the General. You should get out of there." Naren's voice spoke softly. Chillingly soft.

Ishar merely hummed. It seemed that all the hope had suddenly disappeared from this world. What would happen now?

"Ishar. Ishar! Are you there? I've got it!" Anjani said, snapping Ishar out of his daze. A glimmer of hope flicked in his heart.

"Yes?"

"Listen…remember what Venkatesh had said? That our ancestors had defeated the aliens with their own weapons?"

"Yeah, so? They must've found something and picked it up."

Gargi joined Anjani and clicked her tongue. "No! The scriptures aren't talking about that! It's the dimanium. That's what they used to power up their weapons! We couldn't find that out, because dimanium isn't on our periodic table!"
