Chapter 20 - Chapter Twenty: Red Luna Rising

The Hollow Moon hung high in the sky, casting its pale glow across the red dunes.

Ares stood atop a ridge overlooking the vast expanse of Olympus Mons, his silhouette framed by the rising sun. The wind carried the scent of iron and dust—but beneath it was something new.

Possibility.

Behind him, the ruins pulsed faintly with energy—no longer a threat, no longer a weapon. Just a memory. A guide.

Mara's voice echoed softly within him.

"The cycle has ended. And a new one begins."

Ares closed his eyes. "Not a cycle this time. A choice."

He turned as footsteps approached.

Dr. Sophia Patel climbed the ridge, her face lined with exhaustion but her gaze steady.

"You did it," she said quietly.

Ares met her eyes. "We did."

Sophia looked out over the land. "What happens now?"

Ares took a slow breath. "Now… we build."

Elsewhere – Human-Werewolf Council Grounds

At the neutral meeting grounds between human settlements and werewolf dens, leaders from both species gathered under the open sky.

Commander Linh Reyes stood beside Captain Sera Vance, scanning the assembled wolves led by Vira. Across from them, Kael's former warriors watched with wary respect.

A long table stretched between them, marked with symbols of both species—a human handprint and a wolf's paw, pressed side by side.

Ares stepped forward, dressed not in armor or ceremonial garb, but in simple travel-worn clothing. He didn't need titles or weapons to command attention.

He had earned something far greater.

Trust.

He placed his hands on the table.

"We have fought for survival," he began, his voice carrying across the gathering. "For dominance. For control. But survival without unity is just delay. Dominance without understanding is destruction."

Vira stepped beside him. "We are not the same as we were. We are not what we feared. We are something new."

Reyes nodded. "And we're ready to move forward—together."

Ares looked around at the gathered leaders. "This world does not belong to one species alone. It belongs to all who call it home."

There was silence.

Then came the first gesture of peace.

One of the elders, an ancient wolf named Dain, stepped forward and pressed his palm against the table.

Then another.

Then another.

Until every leader had done the same.

The Accord of Mars was sealed—not in blood, but in shared purpose.

Later That Day – Signing Ceremony

Inside the newly established Unity Hall—an old research outpost repurposed into a center for cooperation—Ares watched as the first formal treaty between humans and werewolves was signed.

Representatives from every surviving settlement added their names to the document, pledging mutual protection, resource sharing, and coexistence.

Voss's experiments had been destroyed, but the knowledge they uncovered remained—and would be used carefully, ethically, with oversight from both sides.

As the ceremony concluded, Ares stepped back, allowing the leaders to take their place in history.

Sophia joined him at the edge of the hall.

"You could've taken more," she said.

Ares smiled faintly. "I never wanted power. I wanted peace."

She studied him. "Do you think it'll last?"

He glanced toward the horizon. "No peace lasts forever. But if we keep choosing it, we can make it endure."

Sophia exhaled. "And what about you?"

Ares shrugged. "I'm not a ruler. I'm a guide. My place isn't here, in meetings and treaties. It's out there—in the wilds, where the past still waits to be understood."

Sophia nodded slowly. "You're going after the other ruins."

"I am," he confirmed. "There's more to learn. More to protect."

She hesitated, then extended a hand. "Then let me come with you."

Ares clasped her hand firmly. "Always."

Beneath the Surface – Rogue Wolf Territory

Renn stood atop a jagged plateau, watching the distant glow of the Unity Hall.

Vex approached cautiously. "It's done."

Renn nodded slowly. "They made their choice."

Vex frowned. "And you? What do we do now?"

Renn studied the horizon for a long moment. Then he turned to face his second-in-command.

"We watch. We learn. And when the time comes—we decide whether we walk the same path or carve our own."

Vex hesitated. "So we don't fight them?"

Renn shook his head. "Not today. Not like this."

He looked toward the Hollow Moon above.

"Maybe they've changed Mars for the better."

Vex raised an eyebrow. "And if they haven't?"

Renn smirked. "Then we remind them that wolves still rule the wilds."

On the Edge of the Wilds – The Journey Begins

Ares and Sophia stood at the edge of the Martian frontier, packs slung over their shoulders, oxygen tanks secured.

Behind them, the settlements glowed faintly in the distance. Ahead, the endless red sands stretched toward the unknown.

Sophia adjusted her visor. "Where do we start?"

Ares pointed toward the distant cliffs of Valles Marineris. "There are more ruins. More secrets buried beneath this world. If we're going to understand who we are… we need to find the rest of the truth."

Sophia followed his gaze. "You think there's more?"

Ares smiled faintly. "There always is."

Together, they stepped forward.

The wind howled behind them, carrying with it the echoes of war, loss, and rebirth.

But ahead—there was only the future.

---

Weeks Later – A New Dawn

News spread across Mars.

Human and werewolf children played together in the domes.

Wolves patrolled alongside human soldiers, guarding the outer settlements.

Scientists worked side by side with shamans, studying the ruins not for power—but for understanding.

Ares's name became legend—not as a warrior, not as a king.

But as the Echo who chose unity over conquest.

The Key who unlocked a future worth fighting for.

And the Guardian who ensured Mars would never fall again.

Final Scene – Ares Looks Back

Standing at the summit of a distant ridge, Ares gazed down at the growing city below—a new settlement built on the principles of coexistence.

Sophia joined him, arms crossed. "You know, most legends get statues."

Ares chuckled. "I'd rather have stories."

She smirked. "You already do."

Ares looked up at the Hollow Moon.

It no longer felt like a warning.

It felt like a promise.

"The Hollow Luna rises," Mara whispered within him. "And so do you."

Ares took a deep breath.

Then he turned east.

Toward the next mystery.

Toward the next truth.

Toward the next dawn.
