Chapter 12 - Revenge'o clock

Adrian's parents and Elena's parents were once partners in crime, working together in a dangerous and high-stakes world of theft and violence. Their biggest heist involved stealing 20 million dollars-a risky and meticulously planned operation. However, after the heist, Elena's parents betrayed the partnership by fleeing with the entire sum, abandoning Adrian's parents to face the consequences alone. As a result, Adrian's father was arrested and sentenced to 12 years in prison, bearing the full blame for the crime. This betrayal left deep scars and fueled a burning desire for revenge in Adrian's parents, who have since been raising their family under the shadow of this past treachery.

Late at night, Adrian's parents' bedroom is dimly lit by a single lamp, casting long shadows across the walls. The air feels heavy, charged with decades-old bitterness and the sharp scent of betrayal. Adrian's father, Marcus, paces near the window, his fists clenched, while his mother, Clara, sits rigidly on the edge of the bed, her eyes fixed on a faded photograph clutched in her trembling hands.

Clara (hissing): "She looks just like him, Marcus. The same eyes. The same smirk. It's like seeing a ghost."

Marcus (snarling): "A ghost we've been hunting for years. And now she's sitting at our dinner table, laughing with our son. The universe is mocking us."

Clara's fingers trace the edges of the photograph-a relic from their criminal past. It shows four people: a younger Marcus and Clara, and a couple whose faces mirror Elena's features.

Clara (voice cracking): "We trusted them. We bled for them. And they left us to rot."

Marcus (slamming his fist on the dresser): "They took the money. They vanished. And I took the fall! Twelve years in prison, Clara. Twelve years while you scraped by with Adrian and his older brother, and those traitors lived like kings!"

Clara stands abruptly, the photograph fluttering to the floor. Her voice drops to a venomous whisper.

Clara: "Do you think I've forgotten? Every day you were gone, I prayed we'd find them. Now their daughter is here. It's a sign. We finish this."

Marcus picks up the photo, his thumb brushing over Elena's father's face.

Marcus: "They thought they could erase us. Disappear with our share. But we'll make them pay. We'll take what they love most."

Clara (coldly): "Elena."

A beat of silence passes, thick with menace.

Clara (leaning closer): "Adrian can never know. If he finds out what we're planning-what we've done-he'll turn on us. We lose him forever."

Marcus (grim): "Then we make it quick. Clean. An accident. The police will blame it on the same streets her parents corrupted."

Clara opens a dusty jewelry box on the nightstand, pulling out a locket. Inside is a tiny, frayed note: "The warehouse docks. Midnight. Don't be late. –J.* The final message from Elena's father, Jacob, before he betrayed them.

Marcus (grabbing her wrist): "We lure her out. Somewhere isolated. We make her scream their names before she dies. Let them hear their daughter's voice one last time."

Clara's eyes glint with tears and rage.

Clara: "They took our future. Now we take theirs."

Suddenly, the floorboard creaks outside the door. Both freeze. Marcus yanks the door open to reveal nothing but an empty hallway.

Marcus (growling): "This house has ears. We talk tomorrow. Alone."

As Clara hides the locket, her reflection in the mirror shows a woman split in two: a grieving mother and a vengeful phantom.

Clara (to herself): "Sleep well, Elena Montclair. Your nightmare starts tomorrow."
