Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Set Sail!

~Yuji Liberio~

I took a seat on one of the unoccupied chairs of the bar while using Gale to ventilate the bar to get rid of the chlorine gas, dispersing it fast so that it wouldn't disturb anyone. While it wasn't dangerous as it would disperse in the open air fast, why take chances?

I saw the bartender come back into the bar, unsure and mostly afraid but curious after having heard the bar go silent after the symphony of wheezes and gasps. I pulled off my mask and threw my gloves on the floor before waving at him, he looked at me, then at the corpses around me in shock.

"Y-you killed them?"

"Yup, don't worry about the poison gas, it's gone now. Wouldn't wanna hurt you after all." He shook a little and nodded.

"Y-Yuji, I didn't know you had a devil fruit! I thought they were a myth! W-wait, we gotta tell the others the pirates are dead. They'll be so happy."

It's not like I was afraid of him viewing me killing pirates negatively, this world was way more jaded and used to violence than my own. even now I averted my view from the corpses in my view as they unnerved me while he looked at them directly.

"Sure, but let's not alert the Marines yet, alright?"

"Yeah, sure dude, now let's go. Old man Jenkins has been miserable in the town hall because of them." Jenkins was the village head, I got up and followed him out of the back entrance, the locals needed to be notified that the gunshots were the pirates dying, not one of their loved ones or their neighbours.

The villagers reacted about as you would expect.

With cheers and a party at the bar after the men cleared out the bar of corpses and scrubbed everything clean. Mostly clean anyway.

"Everyone! T-this guy! He is da man!" "This party is yours Mr. Hero!" "Hey do that wind trick again!"

The bar was once again filled with the smell of alcohol, but instead of being repulsive, the air was festive, one of the older men managing the farm slung his arm over my shoulder and tugged me along to dance. I was made to drink copious amounts of alcohol as the people sang and danced, the alcohol was... a little tasteless but I let the people have their festivities, I enjoyed it too, people celebrating my achievements feels nice.

It's not like I didn't enjoy the female attention this party got me, some village girls blatantly flirted with me and thanked me. I even got propositioned but I turned it down very remorsefully.

I didn't think I had what it took to not get emotionally attached to the first girl I had sex with.

My ambitions were higher than that. I wanted my graduation to be a momentous occasion.

But the day passed with festivities, I woke up with a slight headache but not much else, this body had some insane alcohol tolerance as I had drank at least a litre of whiskey with barely an aftermath. After taking some time to tidy myself up I broke the news to the villagers that I would be taking the ship of the pirates ship and setting sail, which elicited mixed reactions.

"Kid, are you sure? I know you got your magic and whatnot but the seas are rough." A black burly man, the local dockworker patted my shoulder, a good portion of the village was at the docks to see me off as I had gained a rather strong reputation overnight for kicking out the pirates.

"Yeah man, you are the hero. You can just settle here, I'm sure the ladies will be all over you."

Of course, while some were just purely worried about me, some just wanted to have a magic wind man stay in their village and keep protecting them. I didn't hold it against them.

"Sorry guys, but the seas are calling me. You can keep the corpses though, the guy has a hefty bounty on his head. Use it to rebuild the bar, who knows? I might swing by." I would most likely not, I was just being polite. Even my previous body didn't have attachments to this place, let alone I.

Just as I was about to walk inside a guy walked next to me and dropped a crate. He turned to me and patted the top of the crate with a grin.

"Hey kid, we had some spare supplies on the docks, take it as my thanks for kicking those scum out."

I gave him a thumbs up.

"Thanks, man, I'll use them carefully." I tried to pick it up but I couldn't so helped me move it to the ship. I also emptied my hut of everything I would need and put the rest in a chest that I buried so if I ever came back I wouldn't see everything of value stolen. The memento of my this-world parents still held at least some sentimental value and I wouldn't want it to get pillaged.

And then, it was finally time to set sail.

I boarded the ship and looked around.

Woah, this thing stinks.

Gale was saving my ass here because without it to ward off the stench I would probably go insane, I dont think even the usual pirate didn't smell this bad, no wonder they never boarded their ship back. The inside was mostly made of some kind of oak, the ship was not small but it wasn't exactly big, it was roughly 60% of Going Merry's size. But the important was that it could wade the seas without sinking.

I walked up to the deck and waved to the village people as I pulled up the anchor, releasing the ship from its position.

"Goodbye, everyone! Keep your eyes on the news! Who knows? You might hear about my exploits!"

With that final goodbye I turned my back towards them and released the sails, I had torn down the flag with Gale before giving the sails an appropriate boost of wind, the ship started moving, moving away from the village as I looked towards the pale white clouds contrasted by the blue skies.

"Get ready for my arrival world!"

Feat Achieved! Set sail on a ship without crewmates ...or a navigator

+1x Silver Familiar Gacha Ticket

Thank you very much system, speakin' of tickets, I should claim the ones that I got from dealing with those pirates, I pulled up the logs, I hadn't wanted to claim them before setting sail just in case.

Quest {Flag Hunting} complete!

Rewards:

+1x Gold Ability Gacha Ticket

+1x East Blue Map

+1x Compass

Feat Achieved! Complete {Flag Hunting} without a single injury

+1x Gold Item Gacha Ticket

Three tickets baby, I hope this is setting a precedent for my future voyage. I also had a regular compass and a map dropped in front of me in mint condition. But before I pulled my tickets I spent an hour using the map and compass to figure out where I was before making a route towards the Organ Islands archipelago and consequently Orange Town.

I make that sound easy but turns out that having to read a vague map of the East Blue was not easy without any experience.

Now that I was done adjusting the sails to head there it was finally time for me to pull it, and by it, I mean my tickets.

Silver Familiar First, my first crewmate. or pet more like, shouldn't have too many expectations from a Silver ticket.

Let's go!

Rolling Silver Familiar Gacha...

An Uncommon Familiar!

[Nue]

|Rarity: Uncommon| |Familiar|

A winged shikigami armed with great speed and the ability to produce electricity. It can support its master by carrying them while flying to increase their mobility and can attack with its heavy wings charged with electricity, shocking anyone it hits and leaving them temporarily paralyzed. The power of shikigami scales with your own energy levels.

Oh nice, I got a flier, and one strong enough to have my back during combat. I watched Jujutsu Kaisen, and while Nue certainly wasn't winning any awards in any aspect, it was strong enough to help me in the East Blue. Especially if I encounter other pirates, it can just divebomb the bottom of their ship and sink it.

Great start, now the Gold Item.

Rolling Gold Item Gacha...

A Rare Item!

[Alchemilia]

|Rarity: Rare| |Item|

A tome containing guides on how to make minor yet useful potions such as healing, stamina recovery, etc. from mundane or ordinary ingredients. Those who haven't read Alchemilia physically cannot craft the potions it gives knowledge about.

Now that does sound very useful. I had a portable pharmacy but there isn't anything that straight up heals people in there. I summoned the book in my hands and looked at it, it was a book with a simple faded leather cover with the words Alchemilia inscribed onto it. It was a bit thick but I didn't mind, I could use something to read during my voyage to Organ Islands.

Finally, the Gold Ability. Hopefully, this would be as good as the first one.

Rolling Gold Ability Gacha...

A Rare Ability!

[Strength]

|Rarity: Rare| |Class: Enhancer|

Allows you to enhance your physical strength and your overall abilities to a lesser extent by expending your energy passively. You can further augment your strength by expending more energy.

Hell yeah! Now I had a chance of maybe competing in the bullshit that is One Piece physical stats.

Sure, Luffy and Arlong could probably fold me like an accordion with one hand even if I had Strength in the active slot but I had no plan to stay weak. If I had something on my voyage to Orange Town, it was time, and time was time to train.

Anyway, I suppose now was the time to settle into sailing life.

﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏𓊝﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏﹏

~Yuji Liberio~

Sailing alone sucked dick.

It was not helped by the ship I was in, sure, its small size did wonders to allow me to travel quickly but some exploration later I was met with the fact that this was still a ship inhabited by unwashed men and whatever poor girls they kidnapped.

I sealed off the common sleeping room, not going in there as I couldn't be bothered to scrub the filth out of there. I chose my room as the Captain's cabin which was surprisingly about as large as a small studio apartment. I changed the bed by taking out 200 rolls of gauze from Portable Pharmacy and washing the sheets before placing them over the gauze that I wrapped with medical tape. It was not the pinnacle of comfort but it was comfortable enough for me.

Let me tell you, if I did not have Portable Pharmacy I would have just said fuck it and rode Nue all the way to the Orange Islands with brash disregard for the whimsical weather of this world.

You would be amazed at how many things a pharmacy could contain. I took an empty book I found in the captain's quarters and used it for keeping notes and things I could get from a pharmacy. Like the pen I got from a Pill Planner I pulled out, it came bundled with it. And when I realized the Pill Planner was better I just threw the book away.

I also had food with me, granted they were mostly bland protein bars for people with appetite problems but it made a good way for me to get protein alongside the fish I caught by giving them flight using Gale and dropping them onto my ship. Or having Nue catch them for me.

Nue was really useful, he or she looked like a really feathery orange owl the size of a man with a skull-like mask fused into its face and large human-like teeth. And thankfully it did not need me to feed it or give it human sacrifices. Loyal by default too thanks to the gacha, we could even communicate intent telephatically.

While we sailed, I worked out as much as I could with what I was given, having a high-protein diet etc. The thing that excited me was the feeling of visible progress. Probably because I had the body of a native but the people of One Piece really get strong fast. Just look at Koby, who went from being the size of a 12-year-old to an elite marine in less than 6 months.

But... catching fish, practising ability, eating vitamin gummies from the pharmacy, training, rinse, repeat. It gets really tiring after the first 5 days.

Nobody to talk to, just me, the sea and the fucked up looking lightning owl I had as a pet.

No offense to Nue but it wasn't a very good conversation partner.

But just as I was resting on the deck, staring up at the sky and doing literally nothing else except feeling the breeze with my sunglasses on, my eyes caught the figure of a ship sailing less than 3km away from me. It made me smile, especially seeing the jolly roger of a pirate ship.

I got up from my seat and stretched my arms with a grin.

"Finally, some action!"

A/N: We have completed the tutorial and Yuji proves his luck against the whims of the world. Being able to leave the island with an intact ship, and even get a fairly good familiar out of the gacha to help him along. He will definitely need that strength to face what is to come.

Sailing sucks, at least doing it alone, especially when you are sailing alone without friends or girlfriends to keep you company. Thankfully for Yuji, he has Portable Pharmacy which is carrying his entire journey on its back. But he will need a cute navigator girl to help him on his journey and for him to be able to keep his sanity. What did you guys think about the start of his journey?
