After everything went dark before his eyes and he died unexpectedly, Gao Wei had been floating here ever since.
This was a dark world, shrouded in obscurity, difficult to see clearly.
He could sense his surroundings and even move his body slightly.
However, a thin "veil" always lingered before his eyes, making it hard to discern the darkness beyond.
In the solitude of his thoughts, Gao Wei came to a realization: he had likely transmigrated. But for a transmigrator, this starting point was even worse than a certain satellite spirit that had hung in the sky for millions of years—at least that spirit could see the scenery of the earth below, while all Gao Wei could see was a chaotic darkness through the veil.
Time passed slowly, unnoticed. He was like a prisoner trapped within this thin veil, unable to break free. The veil was only slightly larger than the body he could currently perceive, which prevented him from moving freely.
His control over his body grew more refined, to the point where he could clap his left hand against his right to entertain himself and avoid going mad from loneliness. Fortunately, his sense of time seemed less acute than before. He watched as the veil before him grew thinner, until he could finally peer through it and look down upon all living beings below.
He leaned forward, trying to press his eye against a small gap he had forced open in the veil—only to realize, strangely, that his body consisted of a single enormous eyeball.
Yet the sight he beheld through that gap nearly brought tears to the human soul within him. Beyond the veil, he finally saw the outside—a universe, a dazzling and beautiful starry sky.
The stars shone in the pitch-black night, and countless civilizations gazing at the heavens seemed to proclaim to the universe, "I am here!"
This magnificent scene stirred Gao Wei, who had endured endless solitude. His body danced in the sky, projecting itself into the eyes of every living being, singing to the universe with a voice he didn't know he possessed.
Then, to Gao Wei's shock, those civilizations began to flicker out one by one, and the starry sky fell silent again. A massive celestial body, formed of countless stars and brimming with rage, leaped up from below and delivered a resounding slap to his face.
Startled by the sudden attack, Gao Wei shrank back into the veil enveloping his body. He watched as the massive celestial body hurled various stellar objects at the veil, cursing furiously. For some reason, this brought him a sliver of joy.
Watching someone lose their temper was amusing, but why had this being suddenly attacked him? The young Outer God thought gleefully, unaware of the name of this massive celestial body or why those beautiful, vibrant civilizations had suddenly gone extinct. By the time he realized the truth, it was too late to undo the damage, and he had made a mortal enemy of the Supernova Dominator.
The Superstar Sovereign had a fiery temper and little patience. After realizing it couldn't break through the "turtle shell" of this Outer God—known to them as the High-Dimensional Overseer—the Supernova Dominator decisively chose to relocate and continue building its empire elsewhere.
It was the master of celestial bodies, the ruler of all starry skies, the arbiter of cosmic laws. It established the rules for vast stellar empires, forcing all beings to enact wars according to its designs. These spectacular cosmic dramas naturally drew Gao Wei's attention again, allowing him to gleefully witness the Supernova Dominator lose its composure time and again.
"What are you trying to do? Why do you keep disrupting my game? I gave you those territories, and you still bother me every day?!" the Superstar Sovereign roared, exasperated by its own kind.
"I just wanted to take a look," the High-Dimensional Overseer replied earnestly. But this only infuriated the Supernova Dominator further: "Get lost!"
"Get as far away as you can!"
Scolded, the High-Dimensional Overseer began to reflect on whether he had done something annoying. Feeling his geometric body, composed of countless beams of light, he suddenly realized a disturbing truth:
"Could those civilizations have gone extinct because I looked at them? I remember when I used to watch streams, my spectating didn't affect the streamer…" The High-Dimensional Overseer extended a part of his body, rubbing it unconsciously. Only now did he realize his shell had become infinitely alien to him, and his soul, in the long solitude, had grown inhuman.
"But hiding in this veil is so boring… I only glanced at them, and just that caused those creatures to die? That's way too fragile. Hmm… I'll have to restrain myself from looking too closely. Overlooking them from above shouldn't cause any issues, right? It probably won't. Definitely not. I don't know much yet, and I don't want to become an Outer God with bad karma."
Unbeknownst to the High-Dimensional Overseer, his infamy had already spread from the Supernova Dominator's mouth, making him the second most despised god among the Outer Gods, surpassed only by the Lord of the Mysteries.
Even the scheming Circle of Inevitability and the incessantly chattering Inextinguishable Ravings didn't want the High-Dimensional Overseer disturbing their peaceful, murderous lives. This knack for causing harm without gain was something they had only seen in the Lord of the Mysteries before.
When they saw the Lord of the Mysteries, the Outer Gods would flee immediately, but when they saw the High-Dimensional Overseer—this "honey badger hiding in a turtle shell"—they only felt bad luck.
After all, among the Outer Gods, it was widely rumored that the High-Dimensional Overseer had once, with an unconscious glance, taken down one of the Lord of the Mysteries' marionettes—a report from the Supernova Dominator.
This news shocked the Outer Gods, and the Lord of the Mysteries' humiliating defeat was mocked endlessly. As the source of this incident, the High-Dimensional Overseer fled to other dimensions until the Lord of the Mysteries stopped pursuing him. Afterward, he fully uncovered some of his traits and only dared to overlook the conflicts in the starry sea from high-dimensional space.
Then came the battle between the Lord of the Mysteries and God Almighty. The Original Creator awoke first, causing many Outer Gods and Old Ones to lose their authorities and Sefirots. Even the Mother Goddess of Depravity, standing at the pinnacle of the Old Ones, had half her Sefirot torn apart due to intense convergence.
The two gods uncontrollably absorbed surrounding Sefirot and characteristics, clashing fiercely in a chaotic battle. The High-Dimensional Overseer nearly lost control of his powers and joined the fray as an Outer God.
Thanks to his altered psyche, he didn't lose his Sefirot like his old rival, the Supernova Dominator. After enduring two or three of the Lord of the Mysteries' deceptions, he successfully escaped the battlefield.
A barrier enveloped the world, isolating the Outer Gods' powers. The Lord of the Mysteries and God Almighty fell on Earth after their frenzied battle. Only after confirming their deaths multiple times did the High-Dimensional Overseer dare to open his eye.
He gazed upon the land, finding that the creatures below no longer went mad from his gaze. Satisfied, the High-Dimensional Overseer smacked his lips and hid behind the veil, watching the Ancient Sun God awaken from the Chaotic Sea, transforming into a sun and forging new radiance on the earth.
Half-asleep, half-awake, the High-Dimensional Overseer observed everything before him, ignoring his fellow Outer Gods pounding on the barrier outside. He slowly sorted through his memories, witnessing the sunset and the awakening of new gods in the process.
He saw the Black Emperor leave his kingdom, only to perish under the siege of gods. He saw the Creator's half-body roaring madly, opening doors in the starry sky that could never be closed again.
As time passed, he grew more awake, cherishing his human memories and storing them in the core of his mind. He saw the distant crimson moonlight and the millennia-long schemes of two goddesses.
The High-Dimensional Overseer touched his face, where the red marks from the Lord of the Mysteries' strikes still lingered. Thinking of this, he casually manipulated the chaotic dimensions around him, straightening the lines that formed them and snapping them like rubber bands.
The Lord of the Mysteries' two strikes had been particularly harsh, and the pain still lingered.
"He definitely holds a grudge against me, so I can't let that old geezer revive," the now fully awakened High-Dimensional Overseer thought. He lurked beyond the barrier, watching the earth below with cold eyes. He saw the Fallen Mother Goddess corrupt Roselle and the Mother Tree of Desire control the Chained God.
The consciousness of Son of God, unfortunately sealed by the Lord of the Mysteries into a wishing lamp, constantly cried out for its main body's aid. Countless Outer Gods tried to sneak through the barrier to reclaim their Sefirot, but the original barrier blocked them firmly. Compared to these miserable kin, the High-Dimensional Overseer felt quite fortunate.
He kept a low profile, as always, observing the earth through his eyes. Even the Supernova Dominator, who had clashed with him for countless years, couldn't quite discern the attitude of this troublemaking "mini Lord of the Mysteries."
Logically, after being chased and beaten by the Lord of the Mysteries, the High-Dimensional Overseer should have been as eager as God Almighty to nail down his coffin. Yet, he merely overlooked the earth silently, as he had for millennia, seemingly without ambition.
Until a "velvet curtain" fell to the earth and was swept away by crimson moonlight. A young man, slumped over a desk, awoke bewildered from a millennia-long dream, fearfully gazing at the suddenly unfamiliar surroundings.
In the eyes of other Outer Gods, the High-Dimensional Overseer suddenly emerged from the veil that had concealed him for eons, crashing toward Earth like a madman suffering from Lord of the Mysteries PTSD. He slammed into the barrier with his Sefirot, startling the newly ascended gods on Earth.
Sefirot surged outside the barrier, while the gods on Earth bombarded the High-Dimensional Overseer through the barrier. Taking advantage of the weakened barrier, the Mother Tree of Desire intensified its corruption of the Chained God, and the Uncertain Mist tried to rush in to complete itself.
Amid the chaos he caused, the High-Dimensional Overseer sent a Sequence 9 characteristic from one of his two pathways to Earth, exploiting the perfect opportunity created by the Outer Gods.
Then, watching the gods battle, he gathered his slightly damaged Sefirot, preparing to flee. He casually slapped the Hidden Sage who tried to sneak in, then hid behind his veil again.
Gao Wei spat out blood, feeling the characteristic transmitted from "himself." He moved his hands slightly, noticing deep, bone-visible wounds. Blood flowed from the body's abdomen, causing the corpse, briefly revitalized by the extraordinary characteristic, to rapidly lose life.
"This isn't good. If this body dies, the Evernight Goddess might detect this part of my soul. The divine war in the sky is about to end, but using my main body's power to heal this body might still expose me. Should I abandon this body?"
Gao Wei let out a cold "heh." When descending his will, he deliberately chose a dying person in Tingen City with a mystical connection to the Sefirah Castle.
Of course, he avoided the two who had read the Antigonus family notebook—those were the Evernight Goddess and Adam's handpicked candidates. Even if he had once dared to confront the Lord of the Mysteries, he wasn't foolish enough to face two true gods tied to Sefirot at Sequence 9.
Luckily, a hapless Abraham family member, killed while passing through, wasn't even an extraordinary worthy of church attention.
Logically, injuring his main body for an avatar wasn't worth it. But the chance to permanently nail down the Lord of the Mysteries' coffin might come only once.
The High-Dimensional Overseer prepared to act, adding a few more nails to the Lord of the Mysteries' coffin. As he finalized his plan, the attacking Outer Gods either left satisfied, having deepened their influence on reality, or retreated to the starry sky in disgrace. The High-Dimensional Overseer peeked out from his source matter again, gently tracing patterns above Earth with his limbs.
A glimmer of color lit up on the barrier's outer layer, shocking even the Primordial Hunger, an Outer God who ate its own brain, at the recklessness of this "outsider" who didn't fit among them.
Unsurprisingly, he was repelled by the gods and fled, pulling his veil tightly around himself as if flaunting his intact source matter.
No one noticed a mortal on Earth holding a paintbrush, coloring his body to mend his dead form and erase the blood beside him. Gao Wei coldly looked up as dawn broke on the horizon, seemingly concealing the starry sky where countless gods had fought for their lives.
He adjusted his aristocratic top hat, wearing vibrant yet refined clothes, and stepped out of the alley.
