Chapter 5 - Chapter 004

Chapter 5: Frenzied Shopping

July 24, 2022, 120 days until the apocalypse on November 21.

Li Yu ran five kilometers in the mountains and returned home to take a shower. Having come back from the apocalypse, he could hardly bear his current weak physical condition.

Actually, Li Yu's physique was quite good to begin with.

Standing at 183 cm tall and weighing 150 pounds, he had faintly visible six-pack abs.

But in the eyes of the reincarnated Li Yu, it was still a bit weak, which meant he couldn't perform many high-difficulty movements.

So he had been working on improving his physical condition since coming back.

After showering and eating breakfast, Li Yu went to inspect the base.

Looking at the completed underground room and house before him, Li Yu's mood became a bit cheerful.

The house was now in the decoration stage, with water and electricity already installed.

Additionally, Li Yu spent 3 million yuan to purchase solar panels from Zhongke Photovoltaic. Fearing future maintenance troubles, he bought several extra sets.

He also arranged for his younger brother Li Hang to learn the entire installation process.

Although learning on the spot certainly wasn't enough, the solar panels themselves had a lifespan of up to 30 years. If well-preserved, the few sets he bought would last a long time.

Once the photovoltaic power generation system was laid out, its annual power generation would be close to 100,000 kWh based on the equipment's capacity.

After the basic construction was completed,

Some things needed to be expedited now.

Stockpiling supplies!

Although Li Yu had purchased some supplies online over the past two months, buying items bit by bit according to the records in his previously written manual.

But he hadn't bought in bulk, as there was nowhere to put everything.

The underground warehouse hadn't been built before, and there was no electricity, so he could only make small-scale purchases.

Supplies could be stored in the current three-story house, but they would still need to be moved to the base later, which would be too troublesome.

So Li Yu had been waiting for the underground warehouse to be built before transporting everything at once.

It's worth mentioning that the cement rural road near National Highway 319 was less than two kilometers away from the current construction site.

Li Yu built a cement road less than five meters wide connecting the base to the rural road, deliberately choosing to build it in an area with more trees. This way, with the layers of forest cover, one couldn't see what was inside from the rural road.

Moreover, this small road had a few turns, making it even more secluded.

100 meters in from the rural road on this small path, one could see a large double-layered gate welded from fine steel plates.

The gate was about 5 meters high, 8 meters wide, and nearly 30 centimeters thick, with double doors.

The top of this gate hadn't been grouted yet, so even the tallest items could be transported in for now.

This size was the result of Li Yu's comprehensive consideration, based on vehicle sizes with some extra space added.

Just this gate alone cost Li Yu several hundred thousand yuan.

Next to the large gate, Li Yu also opened a small door only 2.5 meters high and 1.5 meters wide. This small door was also made of fine steel.

Li Yu stood in the spacious underground warehouse, looking at the 2000-plus square meters of open space before him.

His heart was filled with ambition.

Within two months, he would fill this place.

The meticulous Li Yu divided the two thousand square meters into areas according to categories such as food, medicine, clothing, sanitary products, fuel, exchange goods, tools, and so on.

Each area was clearly demarcated, neat and orderly at a glance.

This would make future retrieval extremely convenient.

According to Li Yu's budget, out of the total 50 million yuan from the 30 million lottery win and the 20 million loan,

He planned to spend 25 million on base construction and 25 million on purchasing supplies.

Opening the previously prepared shopping list (see the previous chapter for details, the author has been squeezed dry, not much water left)

o( ̄ヘ ̄o#)

With a grand wave of his hand, Li Yu tapped away on his phone, contacting various wholesalers! (Don't ask why wholesalers, it's to save money!)

Entering frenzied shopping mode!!!

Buy buy buy!

All survival supplies purchased were calculated for 50 people for 100 years.

He even specifically called his little sister to ask about her top 10 most wanted items.

Then he added each one to the list.

It's worth mentioning that Li Yu, along with his uncle Li Hongcheng and younger brother Li Hang, made a special trip to the 4S store and bought three Ford pickup trucks and two 6-seater SUVs.

But they didn't buy any trucks, because their family's culvert business, including delivery vehicles, already had 2 trucks.

Of course, all five vehicles were bought on loans, with the longest possible terms.

With the apocalypse coming, wouldn't it be a waste not to take advantage?

In Li Yu's heart, there was only one voice: Give it to me!

All purchased supplies were financed or loaned as much as possible.

On the drive back, they happened to meet their father on the rural road.

When Li Hongyuan saw the fleet of vehicles and heard Li Hang say they were all bought by Li Yu, he was a bit stunned: "Yuzi, people usually buy cars one at a time, are you stocking up?"

Li Yu didn't offer much explanation. This was just the beginning; later there would be tons of supplies transported in. Li Hongyuan would probably find that even harder to accept.

Li Hang, on the other hand, was quite excited. With his clever little eyes squinting, he grinned at his big brother and said, "Big bro, did you buy any for me?"

Seeing Li Hang like this, Li Yu smiled.

He said, "Yes, there's one for you. That SUV is yours."

Li Hang shouted excitedly, "Oh yeah! Big bro is the best! I haven't really driven since getting my license."

Watching his little brother's happy expression, Li Yu recalled how he used to beat him when they were young.

He thought to himself: Still just a kid.

Uncle Li Hongcheng, who had come along, was also surprised to see so many cars but didn't say anything.

Li Yu then handed out a bottle of water to each of the 4S store delivery staff, and gave each of them a 100 yuan red envelope. Although helping with delivery was part of their job, giving a little extra for their hard work was only natural.

The staff happily accepted the money, praising Li Yu for his thoughtfulness.

One of the staff asked, "Boss Li, what are you planning to do with so many cars?"

Hearing this, Li Yu vaguely replied, "We have a big family, and we need to transport goods often, so we bought them all at once." Then he prepared to get in the car and drive away.

The staff seemed to realize Li Yu was busy. So they said a few brief words and left.

Indeed, Li Yu didn't let these staff into the base, or even let them see the base here.

The fewer people who knew about the base, the better, to avoid anyone targeting this place later.

Li Yu took his younger brother and uncle Li Hongcheng to drive the cars into the base in several trips.

The next day, Li Yu took them to the city. Some "weapons" he had ordered earlier contacted him, saying they were ready for pickup.

There was a store specializing in producing knives, swords, bows and crossbows. Li Yu had searched for a long time and even spent some money to find someone willing to help him acquire these items.

It was someone who did black market business and wasn't afraid of breaking the law. They only feared not getting paid enough.

First were 20 modern compound crossbows, the king of anti-terror cold weapons, priced at 19,888 each. Each came with 30 arrows.

Meeting Li Yu's requirements, they added another 270 arrows for each crossbow.

A total of 20 crossbows and 6,000 arrows.

They also purchased 40 knives and swords, including katanas, yanling knives, as well as some protective armor and so on.

Despite repeated requests, the store still refused to sharpen the blades for him.

In the end, Li Yu said if they wouldn't sharpen the blades, he wouldn't buy anything, putting a little pressure on the seller.

Then he immediately offered the store an additional 100,000 yuan as a sharpening fee, a big sweetener.

The store finally agreed to sharpen the blades.

But when Li Yu paid, they looked at him as if he were insane.

Just like how normal people don't keep diaries, who would buy so many swords and knives, and even have them sharpened!

Li Yu took his younger brother to the city, and it took several trips to load everything onto the pickup truck.

On the way back, they didn't take the highway, and returned to the base with some trepidation.

Fortunately, no police stopped them, otherwise it would have been very difficult to explain the situation under questioning and inspection.

The two of them were drenched in sweat after moving all these items.

The younger brother didn't ask anything, but looked excited.

Li Yu reminded him not to tell their parents or anyone else.

The younger brother had a look of understanding. He swayed his body mysteriously as he went to take a shower.

Seeing his brother like this, Li Yu didn't even get a chance to explain the prepared words to him. It seemed there was no need to say anything.

This fool.

Looking at these purchased weapons, Li Yu put them in a hidden, secluded corner of the warehouse and locked them up with a big lock. He kept the key with him at all times.

That night, Li Yu contacted some food suppliers he had previously researched, including those for rice, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar, tea, and so on.

He arranged times for them to come one by one.

Then he opened his computer and started downloading available films and TV shows, movies, documentaries, variety shows, and so on.

To download these videos, Li Yu bought a total of 100 solid-state drives and 100 mechanical hard drives, each with a capacity of 10TB. The total capacity was nearly 2000TB.

Assuming each video is 1GB, this could store up to 2 million videos.

Of course, there were also those essential movies for men, with several thousand downloaded.

With years of experience as a single man, there was no shortage of websites. Downloading these was mainly to cultivate the mind and body; occasionally watching action films of famous Japanese stars is beneficial for one's physical and mental health.

He also downloaded some books, covering various industries from nine-year compulsory education to agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, sideline production and fishery.

From history and humanities to geography, from chemistry and physics to politics and ethics. These were paired with Kindle e-readers.

He also bought some old VCD discs from a nearly bankrupt music CD store. Li Yu spent 150,000 yuan to buy out the entire inventory in one go.

Looking at the 5 computers simultaneously downloading in front of him, and then at the hundreds of neatly arranged computers and hundreds of unopened new Huawei phones, tablets and other electronic products below,

He slapped his forehead, thinking this stuff was a bit overwhelming.

Li Yu made another trip to a used bookstore. He brought back three truckloads of books in batches.

By the way, after getting the design drawings from his former classmate who worked in interior design in M City, Li Yu made a few simple changes, mainly greatly improving aspects of safety and durability.

In the largest 300-square-meter villa in the center, he built a nearly 30-square-meter small home theater in the first basement level.

There were also supporting facilities like a gym, chess and card room, and other leisure spaces.

This set of houses was where Li Yu put the most thought, spending nearly 2 million yuan.

The remaining four villas were only simply decorated.

Time passed like a fleeting white colt through a crack

And the construction of the base changed day by day

When nearly 40 heavy-duty trucks entered the underground warehouse initially, it really shocked Li Hongyuan.

He berated Li Yu for wasting money recklessly.

How could they eat so much?

Li Yu was very firm, telling his father not to interfere. This angered Li Hongyuan so much that he gritted his teeth.

Most of these supplies were transported from other provinces.

Li Yu persuaded the suppliers to transport them here with moving workers by offering higher prices.

This indeed cost Li Yu a large sum of money.

This was to prevent some people in the surrounding area from knowing what they were transporting. After the apocalypse broke out, with mountains high and the emperor far away, it would be very difficult for these drivers to find this place again.

Even if they wanted to find this place, they would have to cross provinces.

And during the period when zombies roamed freely in the apocalypse, whether these people could come here was still a big question.

During the new book period, asking for everything. Muah~
