Chapter 12 - "The Blade at Her Throat"

As he finishes his dua, he sees Abdul Rehman sitting right in front of him, staring at him, and says,

"Has my brother fallen in love?

You've been making dua for so long!"

Qasim replies,

"Let's talk outside the mosque."

They go outside, and Qasim says,

"So what were you saying? Love?

No, it's nothing like that.

I was just asking Allah for forgiveness

and to keep me on the right path and protect me from the wrong one."

Abdul Rehman laughs and says,

"Allahumma barik, my brother."

Qasim is about to tell Abdul Rehman something when suddenly someone starts knocking hard on his door.

"Is anyone inside?"

Qasim's house is near the mosque,

so Abdul Rehman gets distracted and says,

"Who is this person at your door?"

Qasim is about to say something when Abdul Rehman sees the man's face and remembers:

"This is the same guy who escaped that day!"

Abdul Rehman runs toward Qasim's house.

Just then, Qasim's sister opens the door.

The thief storms inside with a knife and shouts,

"Where is Qasim?"

He had come to kill Qasim.

Just then, Abdul Rehman also arrives,

but the thief holds the knife to Fatima's neck and says,

"Take one more step and I'll slit her throat!"

At that moment, Qasim also arrives.

The thief says,

"There! Your brother has come."

Abdul Rehman is confused by his words:

"'Your brother'? What does he mean?

Has he slit someone's throat before?"

Qasim signals Fatima to cut the thief's hand with force.

She does exactly that.

The thief cries in pain,

"Ouch!"

and slaps Fatima, making her fall.

Abdul Rehman grabs the thief's throat from behind,

but the thief escapes his grip.

Then Abdul Rehman kicks him with great strength,

sending him flying across the room.

Blood starts pouring from the thief's mouth.

Qasim notices this and realizes Abdul Rehman has become much stronger.

He smiles and says,

"Hey, easy. We have to capture him alive—don't let him die."

Qasim ties him up and gets ready to take him away.

He looks at Abdul Rehman and says,

"This is your mission.

You caught him,

so you take him To Abdullah sir.

Sir Abdullah will be pleased."

Qasim says, "Let's take him to the healer."

Abdul Rehman replies, "What? Shouldn't we hand him over to Sir Abdullah?"

Qasim says, "That's exactly what I'm saying."

Abdul Rehman responds, "Alright, as you say."

They arrive, and Abdullah is sitting, leaning against the wall.

Qasim pushes the thief forward, and he falls in front of Abdullah.

Abdullah asks in surprise, "Who is this?"

Qasim signals Abdul Rehman to speak.

Abdul Rehman tells him, "This is the same man who escaped that day."

Abdullah becomes happy and says to Abdul Rehman,

"Well done! You've done an excellent job."

Then he looks at Qasim and says,

"Give him some dinaar as a reward—get it from Usman.

And yes, organize a celebration. We've caught four of them today,

and we'll celebrate their capture.

They will be punished tonight.

They will learn what the punishment is for attacking the princess!"

It becomes night, and everyone is celebrating.

Abdul Rehman and Qasim also say to each other,

"Sir has become very happy."

Qasim says,

"But I feel sorry for those who are going to be punished tonight."

Abdul Rehman replies,

"Well, they committed a crime—so punishment is certain."

Qasim smiles slightly and says,

"Sir Abdullah won't give them an ordinary punishment.

From what I know, he will give them a very painful punishment."

Some time passes, and the celebration ends.

Abdullah goes to give them their punishment.

Qasim and Abdul Rehman stop him on the way.

Qasim asks,

"Sir, it's night now—where are you going?"

Abdullah says,

"You both go home now.

Right now.

That's my order."

Both of them say,

"Okay, sir."

Then Abdullah calls Usman and says,

"Whip those thieves until they die.

Don't worry, even if they die."

Usman says,

"As you command."

He takes the whip and goes to the place where all the prisoners are held.

And he starts whipping all of them.

They scream.

They cry.

They say, "Forgive us! Give us one chance!"

But Usman whips them so hard

that their skin starts to peel off.

And all of them die that same night.

Usman disposes of the bodies of all four.

And Abdullah spreads the news that:

"We have sent them to Kabul,

where they will be kept imprisoned.

Escaping from that jail is not easy."
