Chapter 5 - Short Chapter 4: The New spirit battle

---

The city trembled under the weight of impending doom. Sirens blared, and the sky was painted with hues of crimson and violet as the AST mobilized in response to the sudden appearance of the Spirit.

Tohka stood amidst the chaos, her long purple hair flowing like a river of amethyst. Her eyes, deep pools of uncertainty, scanned the surroundings. She hadn't attacked, hadn't spoken, yet her presence alone was enough to incite panic.

Shido watched from a distance, heart pounding. He could feel the tension in the air, the palpable fear emanating from the soldiers around him. Yet, he couldn't bring himself to see Tohka as a threat.

The AST, however, saw only danger. They launched their assault, weapons blazing, aiming to neutralize the perceived threat. Tohka reacted instinctively, her energy manifesting into a protective barrier, deflecting the onslaught.

The battle intensified, buildings crumbling under the weight of the conflict. Tohka's movements were graceful yet powerful, a dance of defense rather than aggression. She didn't retaliate; she merely protected herself.

From the shadows, The Unknown observed with eerie detachment. Her eyes, devoid of emotion, analyzed every move, every reaction. She noted Tohka's reluctance to fight, her defensive stance, and the confusion in her eyes.

As the battle raged on, Shido stepped forward, determination etched on his face. He called out to Tohka, his voice cutting through the chaos. She turned, their eyes meeting, a silent understanding passing between them.

In that moment, the world seemed to pause. The AST hesitated, unsure of their next move. Tohka lowered her guard, taking a tentative step towards Shido.

Onboard the Fraxinus, Kotori Itsuka, Shido's foster sister and commander of Ratatoskr, watched the scene unfold. Her eyes narrowed as she observed Tohka's behavior and Shido's intervention.

"Shido, what are you doing?" she muttered, gripping the armrest of her chair tightly. "This isn't part of the plan."

Reine Murasame, the ship's analyst, glanced at Kotori. "Commander, Shido's presence seems to be affecting the Spirit's behavior. She's not attacking; she's responding to him."

Kotori frowned, conflicted. "I know, but it's risky. If the AST sees him interfering, they might target him too."

Back on the battlefield, the AST soldiers exchanged uncertain glances. Their target was no longer exhibiting hostile behavior, and a civilian was now in close proximity.

"What do we do?" one soldier asked, lowering his weapon slightly.

"Hold your fire," their commander ordered. "We need to reassess the situation."

Tohka took another step towards Shido, her expression softening. "Who... are you?" she asked, her voice barely audible over the distant sirens.

"I'm Shido Itsuka," he replied gently. "I'm not here to hurt you."

The Unknown tilted her head, intrigued. This was unexpected. A Spirit responding to a human's plea? She continued to watch, curiosity piqued.

The tension in the air dissipated as Tohka and Shido stood face to face. The battle had ceased, replaced by a fragile peace. The Unknown faded into the shadows, her mind racing with new questions.

What was the nature of this connection? Could it be harnessed? Or was it a threat to the balance she sought to understand?

Only time would tell.
