Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: The Shadow Pact

Night fell heavily on the city of Gaelius, a place where neon lights and dark alleys hid the deepest secrets of the mafias. Akihiko, Kael, and Aria met in an abandoned warehouse, a clandestine meeting place where a summit of the world's top mafias was being held. They had received an anonymous invitation, a meeting impossible to ignore.

The air was thick with tension. In the center of the room, a long, dark wooden table was surrounded by leaders of the most powerful criminal organizations. Each represented a region, each had a unique power connected to the Tree of Eden. Conversations were hushed, but hostility hung in the air.

Akihiko looked at the audience with an analytical eye. He had heard some of them:

Dmitri Volkov, leader of the Russian mafia, with the power of "Superhuman Resilience", capable of resisting and regenerating from any damage, making him almost indestructible in combat.Isabella De Luca, head of the Italian Camorra, whose ability, "Puppet Strings", allowed him to control people as if they were simple toys.Kenji Hayato, from the Japanese syndicate, with the power of "Ghost Flames", a fire that could not be extinguished by conventional means.

In a dark corner, Viktor, weakened but defiant, stood before him. Although his scepter had been destroyed, his presence remained intimidating. It was clear he was plotting something.

The Conditions of the Pact

The host of the meeting, a hooded man known only as "The Mediator," spoke in a firm, emotionless voice. "The Tree of Eden has been the source of your power for centuries, but the balance is in danger. If you continue to fight among yourselves, there will be nothing left to claim. This summit is an opportunity to establish a pact, a temporary truce while we investigate the Tree's true purpose."

The Mediator's words echoed in the room, but were met with skepticism. Isabella De Luca leaned forward, her eyes flashing with suspicion. "And why should we trust someone like you? No one here shares the same interests. Each seeks the Lux Aeterna, and that fight will not end until someone claims it."

The Mediator maintained his composure. "That's why I'm here," he retorted. "The Lux Aeterna appears once every five hundred years, and you all know its appearance is imminent. If we don't cooperate, Viktor and his Order of the Eternal Night could take over."

Viktor smirked, crossing his arms. "Always blaming me for everything. But maybe you're right, Mediator. Maybe I will take what's rightfully mine."

Dmitri slammed his hand on the table, the impact echoing throughout the room. "We've fought too long to allow someone like you to get away with this, Viktor. If this pact is the only way to prevent you from destroying the balance, then we should consider it. But if you try anything here, I will stop you personally."

Intrigues and Revelations

As the discussions continued, Kael noticed something wasn't right. Using her Arcane Forging ability, she created a small listening device that she discreetly placed near Viktor. Akihiko, meanwhile, focused his attention on Kenji Hayato, whose behavior seemed unusually reserved. Aria, with her sensing ability, sensed a strange vibration in the warehouse, as if something dark was lurking.

The tension escalated as Dmitri locked eyes with Viktor. "You know as well as I do that the Tree is changing," Dmitri said. "Its energy feels more unstable with each passing day. If you continue to play with forces you don't understand, you could unleash something none of us can control."

Viktor didn't seem fazed. "The real question, Dmitri, is whether you have the courage to face what's coming."

Suddenly, an explosion rocked the building. A cloud of dust filled the room as hooded figures burst in, carrying weapons and displaying devastating powers. They were agents of the Order of the Eternal Night.

"This is a trap!" Dmitri shouted, summoning his incredible stamina to meet the attackers head-on. Isabella unleashed her threads, controlling two of the intruders to attack each other. Akihiko drew his katana, his movements precise and lethal, while Kael built a wall of energy to block the main entrance.

The Appearance of the Guardian

Amidst the chaos, an unknown figure appeared. He wore a white robe with gold details and a mask that concealed his face. With a wave of his hand, he stopped everyone present, unable to move. His voice, modulated and cold, echoed throughout the room.

"The Tree of Eden belongs to none of you. You have corrupted its purpose with your greed and your wars. But now, I will claim what is mine."

Akihiko, with a superhuman effort, managed to break the momentary paralysis and advanced toward the figure. "Who are you? What do you want from the Tree?"

The figure turned to him, his eyes glowing behind his mask. "I am the Guardian of Balance, and I am here to right the wrongs of your kind."

Before he could say anything else, the figure disappeared, leaving an eerie aura in the air. The stunned mobsters began to regroup. Viktor, for his part, seemed more interested than ever in discovering the Guardian's identity.

A New Alliance

As they left the warehouse, Akihiko, Kael, and Aria reflected on what had happened. Kael broke the silence. "This Guardian... could it be the key to understanding the Tree's true purpose?"

Aria nodded. "Whoever it is, it's clear they know more than we do. But we can't ignore that Viktor is still a threat, and that the mafias won't trust each other."

Akihiko adjusted his katana, his eyes flashing with determination. "Then we'll have to discover the truth for ourselves. If we want to stop this war and protect the Tree, we must stay one step ahead of everyone."

As they walked away, the city lights cast long shadows, a harbinger of the challenges that lay ahead. The fight for Lux Aeterna and control of the Tree of Eden had just escalated to a whole new level.
