Chapter 14 - SMILING CHILD

Tears rolled down his cheeks like a waterfall, and I felt confused. What does he mean by abandonment?

I grabbed the boy by his arms and wrapped him in my arms, trying to comfort him because all this crying is hurting my ears.

"Stop crying. I can't understand you. What do you mean?"

The boy cried with a wail, and he pointed at the prince with fierce eyes like a tiger. Except he whimpered like a poor baby.

Seeing his sad eyes made me pat his back to soothe him, but I listened instead. "H—He said that you don't l—love me or anyone because I was crying too much."

I raised my brow and turned to the prince, who finally had the balls to turn his head away. He said with a light cough under his clenched hands, "I wanted him to stop crying, so I told him if he kept crying like that, you're going to abandon him."

I stared at him speechless. What person tells a child that? Besides, how is telling a crying child that they are going to be abandoned going to help the matter?

I got a headache from thinking on that matter. And I turned my head away from the prince, and I continued rubbing the pitiful child on the back, who for some reason won't stop crying.

Unaware that the child in my arm lifted his head at the prince fearfully with his sad red eyes.

The silver-haired prince stared at the child with his scary red eyes, flashing with displeasure. With a lazy smirk on his face, he made a cutthroat movement across his neck.

The child, Kaden, jumped with fear in his expression and bowed his head, hiding in Blake's arms, his body shaking.

I lifted my head to stare at the prince suspiciously. The prince looked normal, but I don't believe the prince was innocent.

But I couldn't say anything in that moment.

I asked the prince, hoping to use this excuse to get me some alone time with the boy.

"He needs a bath."

The prince, with his hands behind his back, stared at me with calm red eyes and said in a low voice,. "You can take him to a bath in one of them downstairs."

I wanted to ask what's wrong with the tub in his room. But knowing the prince, he's not the type to share.

I nodded my head and asked, "Where is it?"

The prince remained silent and turned around. He headed to the door and called out. "Servant."

I raised my brow at him. Then a light knock came on the door, and answering in a low, fearful voice, "My prince, how can I serve you?"

The prince let the vampire enter the room with his black hair and red eyes. His eyes were bowed to the ground.

The prince said before leaving the room. "Take him to the bathing room, and make sure he's alone as well."

The servant nodded his head with respect oozing from his body. Once the prince left the room, he raised his head toward me with a friendly smile, "Follow me."

Despite seeing his friendly smile, it didn't bring me comfort; it only brought me on guard.

I nodded and remained silent. I followed the servant down the stairs with the quiet child in my arms.

Thankfully, he wasn't heavy.

The servant walked with light steps in his feet, and he turned to me with a curious smile. "What's your name, human?"

I raised my brow at him, but I answered him, "Blake."

The servant nodded his head with a friendly smile, and he said with a smile curling on his lips, "I can see why the tyrant prince had taken an interest in you."

I raised my brow in confusion and waited for him to explain.

The servant must have seen the confusion washing over my face. He explained with a friendly smile, but the words only jabbed me more. "You are very pretty for a fae."

I said with confusion and asked. "What the hell is a fae?"

He stopped in his spot with his eyes frozen before me. He said with a faint, sad smile on his face, "How long have you been in the underground tunnel? "

I said with suspicion in my voice, "Why? "

He shakes his head, and he explains, "If you don't know what a fae is, I don't know if I should consider you shelter or a curse."

He raised his hand, pointing at my long ears, "Those would be a sign of someone who's a fae with a beautiful face. Your face is feminine and attractive like a girl, and your beauty alone would attract any powerful men."

Secretly, I thought they must be fucked up in the head.

Then he said with a frown, scanning his eyes down at me, "You should be careful with your face."

He turned around, leading me to somewhere, and I was taken to a room where white smoke and warm heat curled in the air.

I was taken to a large room with a wide circle of water everywhere. Its beauty took my breath away, and I watched the vampire before me smile faintly.

He said, "I'll be leaving; I have work to do."

He bowed his head at me in respect, and I watched him leave the room to be certain that we were truly alone.

I walked closer to the heat. I settle down the child who's remained clinging to my legs.

I sighed, "Get out of your clothes."

The child slid out of his dirty clothes, and we stepped into the water. It was hot at first, and the child clung to me like a baby monkey.

Out of nowhere the child splashed hot water in my face. The water splashed into my eyes, face, and neck.

I almost wanted to shout at the boy, but I resisted after ridding the water from my eyes.

Because it was the first time I had seen the child smiling with joy.
