Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

(Third POV)

Fire. All she could see were the light of flames and the smoke in the air. The heat so intense it feels like her skin was burning, but that wasn't even the worse part. What was worse was not being able to breathe. Suffocating without oxygen.

"C-ouff..ack."

She's coughing and hacking from the depth of her chest, as if life was leaving her with each cough.

'This is it, this must be the end,' were her last thoughts before everything started to fade into the darkness.

"GASP... Huff... Huff.. Huff.. Hiss."

Dawn was startled awake and jumped out of bed. Her clothes damp and sticky with sweat from night terrors and her head pounding away from pain and stress.

"Arghh... Why does my head feel like it just got in a fight with itself and decided to split in two."

Dawn massages her head to try and alleviate the pain when something bumps into her foot. She looks down to see Merlin, a small black cat, a bit bigger than her foot with bright yellow eyes.

(DAWN POV)

Merlin bumps her head into my ankle as if to comfort me. Oh, how I love her dearly, my precious baby. I start to calm down in her presence and my breathing returns to normal after a minute of trying to gather myself back together.

"Thank you Merlin, I'm feeling better now. I just needed a moment to breathe."

I sit back down on my bed holding my head trying to remember what I was dreaming about. All that comes to mind is fire, smoke and pain. The details are unclear and blurry, leaving me to wonder what it all means and where are these dreams coming from. They feel more like bone chilling nightmares then any regular kind of dream. The true terror of it all is that it has been recurring for the past few weeks. I don't have a clue what they mean or why it just keeps repeating. I can't even remember the whole dream. It feels like my memory of it keeps falling through my finger tips trying to escape my grasp.

Are the dreams a sign of something coming, or maybe the past trying to make it self known to me.

A year ago, I woke up without any of my memories. Luckily what the mind doesn't remember the body will. Little things come naturally with body memory and step by step I have been able to survive and live. Sometimes, just the look or sight of objects and things brings me just a glimpse of memory, like when I saw myself in the mirror. Brown hair like the dirt of earth that seem to shine golden when the sun hits it like a sunrise on the Great plains, with a slight curl to them. Eyes that are hazel, green and brown, amazing like nature, green of leaves and the brown of tree trunks and branches. I get glimpses of a women that looks similar in my memories but her face is blurry.

I do remember that my name is Dawn, after the period of day when the light of the sun touches the earth. I am named after the start of each day, a sign of renewal and new beginnings. I can tell just by my name that I was atleast loved before. I think by the woman in my memories. I wonder where she might be and why am I here alone in a cabin, in the middle of nowhere. Wait... I shouldn't say alone. I do have Merlin. Let's just forget about the nightmares for now and get the day started. I can try thinking more about it once I feed Merlin and myself. It's to early in the morning for all this.

"Okay Merlin, Let's get our day started."
