Though they called it breakfast, it was already 10 AM.
When Arthas and Illya arrived in the drawing-room, Jubstacheit seemed to have been waiting for a while.
After observing Illya, Jubstacheit nodded in satisfaction.
He saw that Illya was become a true lady; Jubstacheit finally relaxed. Arthas accepting Illya meant he was willing to fully integrate into the Einzbern family.
To fully bind Arthas to the Einzbern cause, more was needed, but that wasn't urgent; the Holy Grail War was ten years away.
"Due to the circumstances, there was no ceremony; Einzbern has few close relatives to invite, so your wedding with Illya was hasty."
Jubstacheit cleared his throat; Arthas shook his head unconcernedly.
"I only care about Illya; I'm not interested in wedding formalities."
"Good… good… with that, I can entrust my granddaughter to you."
Jubstacheit nodded, handing Arthas two items.
"Your marriage certificate and your ID. From today, you're an official Einzbern member!"
Arthas nodded, taking the documents; Illya happily put away the red booklet.
"You're legally married. Don't disappoint her."
"I won't disappoint Illya."
Arthas said firmly; Jubstacheit nodded, satisfied.
"I won't disturb your time together."
Jubstacheit left, leaving Arthas and Illya alone.
"Husband, you don't know much about this world. Shall I explain?"
"Please, Illya."
Arthas nodded; to participate in the Holy Grail War, he needed to understand this world's power system and potential enemies.
Illya explained that "mage" and "magician" had distinct meanings.
Arthas had thought they were the same; they were different concepts.
"Mages" used technologically achievable powers. Fire, lightning, frost—all achievable with technology, hence downgraded to "magic." Powers beyond modern technology remained "magic"!
True magicians were rare; most were downgraded to mages.
"Technology is formidable."
"Indeed. Many things threaten mages; ordinary firearms, for example. You can use ice magic to create a shield; others might melt bullets with fire. You consume mana; they just pull the trigger."
Illya said worriedly.
"Be careful, especially snipers. Large-caliber, high-rate-of-fire bullets are dangerous. And explosives, rocket launchers…"
Illya listed dangers; this wasn't an exaggeration; Kiritsugu Emiya used such methods.
The infamous mage killer used any means; Illya worried about Arthas.
Kiritsugu seemed obsessed with the Grail and might become Arthas's enemy.
"Don't worry, I'll be careful."
Arthas ruffled Illya's hair, smiling.
Even the most powerful weapons were far weaker than a Level 6 adventurer's full-power attack.
Withstanding Ais's full-power attack and the combined assault of two Level 6 adventurers proved his frost magic wasn't fragile; a sniper rifle wouldn't break through his defenses.
"Illya, want to go out?"
Arthas asked; Illya was stunned.
"Out…?"
"Yes, we're married; we should have a honeymoon."
"Honeymoon…"
Illya murmured, a bitter expression on her face.
She wanted a honeymoon with Arthas, but Jubstacheit wouldn't allow it. She was the Lesser Grail's vessel; he wouldn't let her move freely before the war.
Arthas didn't know this… if he knew I was a homunculus, a vessel… would he dislike me?
"Arthas, I need to tell you something."
Illya was nervous but determined to tell Arthas.
"What?"
"I… what if I'm not a normal human? Would you dislike me?"
"Why say that, Illya? Don't you consider me your husband?"
Arthas chuckled, returning her earlier teasing.
"Regardless of what you are, angel or demon. Remember, you're Illya, my wife."
Arthas hugged Illya, burying his face in her silver hair, inhaling her scent.
"Mmm…"
Illya closed her eyes happily.
If this is a dream, please don't wake me.
