Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 9

Lorenzo moved back to his space, while the woman still cried and then typed on his phone.

He knew what the woman needed at the moment was to empty her eyes and she was doing so already.

He of all people knew how to feel after someone just tried to kill them.

He knew, truly.

He raised his head to look at his guard who walked in, stopped beside him, and then dropped the file on the table in front of him.

After the man had excused himself from the space, he pushed aside the meal in front of them and then dropped the brown envelope on the table right in front of her.

Leilani wiped off her tears, picked it up, and then opened it.

When she saw the context of the document in the envelope, she raised her head to look at the man.

"T… this…?"

"It is a contract agreement."

"When did you manage to get all of this… ready?" she asked as she scrutinized the paper.

It was addressed to her, Leilani Wheelers, and how the marriage was supposed to go on for just a year.

"Can I have it?" he asked and she handed it over to him.

When he got it, he tore the paper into two and she widened her eyes.

"W… why?"

"Because we are going to do this properly," he shrugged his shoulders off and then moved over to her.

"As I have promised, I will help you get revenge."

"You can… you may ask for a divorce when it is over, or whenever you want."

"Aside from marrying me, what else… What else do you get? I mean… I can't understand why a person like you…"

"A person like me?" He cut her short.

"I mean… I looked you up. You are well off. You could marry anyone you want, not just some random broken divorcee. So… why me?"

Lorenzo leaned in his seat gently, shrugged his shoulders off, and then shook his head. "I have told you. I get a wife. I need to marry to stop an arranged marriage. That is all."

Leilani nodded her head carefully and spaced out.

Jonathan had married her because he needed a position at his company, and now this man was going marry to her because he wanted to stop an arranged marriage.

But thinking about this, this was better.

He was going to help her.

She does not know what it was exactly about the man that made her believe that he could actually help her.

But she believed him.

"Now, you need to eat. We are going home."

"W…we?"

"There is still time. We are going to register our marriage today."

"Today?!" she widened her eyes.

"Why? Too soon?"

"I… thought… no," She shook her head.

"Do you want a party? I could throw a party if you want."

Leilani was expecting him to chuckle at his words, but he looked serious.

He would throw a party for her if she wanted?!

"What?"

"It is a marriage. You want a party, right?"

"N… no! I mean, registering it is… okay."

He nodded his head, clicked on the bell which alerted the chef, and then placed a fresh order.

When their meal arrived, Lorenzo stared at the woman who looked down at the food in terror and then moved over to her.

He picked up her cutlery and then took out a piece of beef.

"What are you… doing?"

He dropped the meat in his mouth and then ate a bit of the side dishes before he moved back and said, "Now eat, will you?"

The corner of her lips tugged warmly before she picked up the fork and then without hesitation, she started to eat.

"Who the hell gets married by seven in the fucking evening?!" Nicholas panted as he entered the car with his friend.

"Me. Did you get the rings?"

"Of course," he breathed out, handed the box to him, and then adjusted his tie.

"Where is she?"

"In there," Lorenzo answered, pointing at the boutique.

The car was parked neatly in front of a boutique and across them was the registry that they were going to register their marriage.

"Can it not wait till morning? How did they even agree to marry you two at a time like this?"

But then again, his friend was one to never stop pulling his strings.

Even though they had known each other for almost two decades, he still wondered sometimes what was going on in the man's head.

He had stopped trying to understand him since a long time ago, in fact. He just let him do his thing, and of course, supported or chastised him.

"Your dad… and that woman… they will be so pissed, you know?"

By that woman, he meant his father's wife. His stepmother.

"That is exactly the goal, my friend." he rolled his eyes.

"And here comes my bride," he added, looking through the window.

Nicholas breathed out as he looked out at the woman who wore a long white dress and then shook his head.

What if Enzo had a wrong perception of this strange woman at the end of the day?

What if she was putting on a facade?

What if she would be the reason for all of his plans since the last eight months go down the drain?

What if she was not who she seemed to be?

As the woman approached the car with a guard trailing behind her, Nicholas opened the door and then helped his friend out of the car.

Leilani stared at the file in her hand and then heaved a deep sigh.

She could only wonder if she was doing the right thing, but the time to do that had gone.

She had just married the man.

Just yesterday, she was MRS LEILANI HENDERSON, but today, she was…

"Congratulations, Mrs Byers," came the voice of Nicholas with a smile on his face snapping her back to reality.

Yeah… Mrs. Byers.

She might never get used to that, actually.
