I staggered to my feet, my entire body screaming in protest. My arms trembled uncontrollably, and each breath was a sharp, burning stab through my ribs.
The Queen stood just a few paces ahead, her silhouette a fragile shield between me and the unknown terror stirring in the darkness behind her.
Her shoulders were squared, but her clenched fists betrayed the tension radiating off her like heat waves before a coming storm.
I saw it—the slight tremor in her fingers, the flicker of unease in her usually unshakable crimson eyes.
And then…
A voice echoed from the void.
"So… this is the so-called Final Heir."
Smooth. Deep. Laced with a venomous kind of amusement that settled directly into my spine like ice.
My heart slammed against my ribs, each beat louder than the last. This can't be happening. Who the hell is that? I just survived my darkest trial… didn't I?
But even before I could voice the question, I already knew the answer.
This wasn't over.
This was just the beginning.
The air thickened like a swamp of pure dread, each breath a struggle as if inhaling liquid fear.
From the swirling shadows, a form emerged—massive, regal, terrifying. Cloaked in layers of ancient armor forged from the bones of forgotten beasts, his face hidden behind a crown of jagged, blackened steel that seemed to drink in all the surrounding light.
His eyes…
They weren't just glowing—they burned like dying stars collapsing into themselves, cold, cruel, and impossibly old.
"Kneel, child," the figure commanded, his voice layered with an authority so absolute the very ground beneath me cracked.
The Queen moved, placing herself fully in front of me now. Her voice was sharp as a blade drawn against a throat.
"No. Not this time."
The figure's laughter rumbled through the void like an oncoming apocalypse.
"Then you've chosen defiance, little Queen? How quaint."
With a wave of his gauntleted hand, the battlefield itself seemed to twist and bend, reality tearing open behind him like the maw of a beast ready to swallow us whole.
"Very well," the figure intoned, stepping forward, each step sending shockwaves through the crumbling ground.
"Let the real Trial… begin."
Before I could even react, the shadows surged forward like a tidal wave of pure destruction, and all I could do was brace for the end—
Or the beginning… of something far worse.
To Be Continued…
